" Colts (2-1) at Bears (3-0) 1 p.m. ET (CBS) Point spread: Colts -2.5 Huh. A 3-0 team with a fanbase that won't stop complaining about the lack of respect for the team that just managed to complete a second 15-point, fourth-quarter comeback of the season (three games in) after benching its starting quarterback is an underdog at home? That's so weird. Colts are gonna win by 20-plus points. See you in my mentions, Bears fans. Pick: Colts 24, Bears 3" Brinson: https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...-raiders-hold-off-bills-falcons-stun-packers/ I know talking heads are about driving clicks, but just wow. He also has the Patriots over the Chiefs, and the Falcons over the Packers. Yes, the same Falcons that imploded so horrendously against the Bears and the Cowboys, are going to triumph over the Peckers. Prisco is far more sane: https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...-chiefs-roll-past-patriots-49ers-edge-eagles/ - I could see a tight 1 score game, though to be fair, Prisco has picked against the Bears *every* week, including the Giants. Bears are picked by 4 of 10 experts on ESPN: https://www.espn.com/nfl/picks Thoughts? Also where the hell is everyone? Did we lose people over the stupid protests thread?
Where do they get these people and what exactly was the question being asked? I don't recall one person on here complaining about lack of respect quite the opposite. I remember when Bears teams had problems finishing games (like the 2020 Falcons) and I'm still not convinced they don't. They could play well for three quarters and take leads into the 4th quarter and somehow squander the lead. The teams that deserve respect are the teams that year in and year out that continue to play competitive football after turning over their rosters. The common denominator with those teams is solid quarterbacking. The Bears have earned nothing. Even the last game with Foles at QB they still can't win on 3rd down. So I don't believe they deserve respect because they haven't dominated either side of the ball consistently, but they do perhaps deserve a little attention.
I don't believe we lost one person to the protest threads. What I saw from the posters on here was a rational objective discussion on the topic from the members on this board. What I also saw was emotional responses based on feel feels from members of other teams boards.
I never read "expert" picks or power rankings anymore, because I know how not-plugged-in they are to the Bears, whether the Bears are struggling or playing well. Generally though, I do think we get more disrespect nationally, as reflected in the gambling lines, where we are more often than not a dog. I think we did. I remember Bear-man basically saying he wasn't going to come back at some point in that thread. Probably others were turned off by it as well, even though as Tuna said, it was mostly a rational discussion.
Yeah, I remember that too now that you mention it, and that's unfortunate I liked Bear-man and what he brought to the table. That sucks.
This is Mongo's fault. I put zero stock into what any media clowns say. Jason la Confora is still a dumbass. Pete Prisco is much less of one than he used to be, but nonetheless dumb. Brinson changed about a year and a half to two years ago to get with the modern times of "journalism." Where being right and facts are wrong and boring--just do the Skip Bayless (be the loudest idiot in the room so all eyes are on you regardless of how dumb you are, because eyes = clicks = money) and pump out 3 mock drafts per day because 'overkill' isn't a word in some people's dictionary... As for the Colts: A match up I've been waiting for and arguably the most critical of the game: Quentin Nelson vs Akeim Hicks. Hicks has bulled opposing guards, now gets the best in the game. The Colts love to run the ball, have done very well so far (even with their RB1 Mack out) and have a promising, talented young rookie. Noquan has been lightyears ahead of Trevathan, but even he's still average while Trevathan is bad. If Nelson wins the day, Taylor may average 7 ypc. Pagano versus Reich. Edge Reich. He's 3-0, but I have little to no faith in Pagano. Bring back Fangio when Denver fires him later this year... Phillip Rivers versus Bears secondary. Edge bears. I've always liked Phillip Rivers. Dude's the right kind of asshole. But for those of us who haven't watched any chargers games for the last 5 years, think 'Bad Jay.' Dude's been an INT machine and even with the colts he's averaging 1 INT per game. He loves to zip a throw downfield, coverage be damed; and he's got a few no named WRs after TY Hilton who can make plays, especially after the catch. They love their scat-back/3rd down back Hines out of the backfield catching passes, he's 2nd on the team in targets behind Hilton. Roquan or Bush has to be the shadow. Justin Houston versus Charles Leno. Edge Houston. The dude (so far) is having a nice bounceback after getting paid in KC then dumped because he made too much and produced too little. Colts are averaging 3 sacks a game, however; stat stuffing against 2 of the worst OLines in football (Minnesota and NYJ) may over-inflate them. THe bears Oline has been average to above average overall this year. Plenty of ups and downs. They need an up day. As for the rest of the OLine matchups, Colts give up 4 ypc and in both the passing and run games, opposing offenses have a 30% (run play) and 38% (pass) success rate on 1st down of getting another 1st. Big gains on the ground (10+ yards per NFL team stats) come on 1st down. Attacking them on 1st down has to be part of the plan. Deforest Buckner is their disruptor and can wreck plays, opening so much for the rest of the front 7. Daniels/Whitehair/Ifedi have to slow this guy down. In 2018 when the bears beat the rams and made Aaron Donald a non-factor. Do that. You'll have to trust Leno/TE on Houston but you give Foles time. Foles with time in the pocket is good. Foles versus Colts secondary. On paper, edge has to go to Foles. Malik Hooker is out of the game and longtime vike Xavier Rhodes is their CB1. Rhodes played in 1 of the 2 bears/vikes games last year where Allen Robinson caught 7 passes for 77 yards on 8 targets. After Rhodes, the CB2, SS, and backup FS are all 2019 or 2020 draft picks. Young secondary versus a vet who's had success. Special teams. Edge Colts. The bears are still trotting out barf as a kicker. The game's entirely winnable. Who's ready for another roller coaster ride?
The one issue with message boards (or textspeak in general) is you don't know when you type it out what someone's rationale or demeanor is like. When you're in person with a few beers, its far easier to "roll with the punches" in disagreements because you can tell when someones joking or not. Also, you can say 'agree to disagree' before toasting and moving onto the next round of beers. Bearman went the way of AverageJoe. Bearman knew a shitload more about football though...sucks indeed. What happened to the chitown king guy who made a few summer threads? Did the Vancouver clown scare him off?
I think that should be done on both sides of the ball because they are even worse than the Bears on 3rd down if you can believe that.
Patg, you may as well assume the role of posting a game preview every week, as Mongo is simply not reliable anymore. Even if the D-line gets beaten off the LOS routinely, and I don't think that will happen, the LBs can still make sure Taylor doesn't have a career day. Otherwise, yeah it's going to be another shootout with possibly the last team possessing the ball winning the game. I'm expecting a big day from Foles. Yeah, I'm drinking the koolaid. But he has said he feels very comfortable in this offense, even with only less than half game's worth of reps. Minimum 3 TD passes, and hopefully the WRs don't fucking let him down. Me! But would much prefer a win where I can relax and be high during the 4th quarter.
It kills me because it's just a discussion. Is that worth throwing away all the good stuff we chat about on here? Just ignore the thread if you disagree. He's who I was thinking of specifically. patg brings up averagejoe, man, that takes me back. It shocks me that people can be so thin skinned. I do blame him, no question. Not much to disagree with here. I posted the thread because I don't see how, even with a good Colts D, the Offense musters only 3 points. If Mitch were still starting? Yeah, maybe. But I think they are going to score at least a few TDs. If that's enough to win, will be the question. My biggest fear matchup wise is the run, followed by play action. Rivers is an old man, but a very solid vet, and schemed right, this Defense could take some lumps. Oddly, I am hanging the success of this game on the Defense. One game and I have complete faith in Foles & the run game, justified or not. The defense has shown a disturbing tendency in the run game, both the line and the LBs, to give up chunk yardage on the ground. If the defense can stop the run, then I like our secondary vs. the Colts WRs and can see a win. But it's definitely going to be a rollercoaster. SIGN MY ASS UP. Oh and to Tuna's point, I agree, I don't see anyone saying the Bears aren't getting respect. Not only here, but about everywhere I see the "worst 3-0 team" - and that's fair, because stacked against the Packers, etc, I see the Bears as having larger problems. But I also could give a shit about respect for the team. Win, consistently for a few years, and then people won't continuously question if you're a fluke. Because right now, 3-0 IS a fluke, and against weak competition. Beat the better teams, people will take you seriously. Just win baby.
Absolutely, but are we forgetting BWW? It should be 50/50 since they are one and the same. Well, faith is one thing trust is quite another. Certainly, the threat of the big play with Foles arm could loosen up the box and help the run game theoretically, but much like the respect thing, they'll have to earn it.
I don't think Bearman got that upset really. He was trying to show that there are 2 sides to every story. He might have a different reason for being absent like working extra hours or maybe he got sick. Benefit of the doubt guys. And my thread wasn't stupid. It gave people the chance to offer their opinions on what was happening in their backyards.
For Bear-man, this was his last post: Protests and Riots ... So I think that might be it for him. Again it is a shame. And I didn't mean to disparage your thread, I thought it was civil and enlightening. But if it caused us to lose members, that sucks, no matter the reason.
I agree vvarder. Anytime someone leaves the site it's unfortunate. I even feel badly that mongo has made his new home over at chicity. Every time we lose someone it hurts Tim's business too. I guess if people are really passionate about their opinions and perspectives it might lead to their leaving the site. It's really too bad though. I hope he comes back.
It almost looks like he's more disappointed with the team than he is angry about the riots and or the discussion.
