Today is Monday, July 29th, and the 'kid gloves' come off. Practice in pads gets underway today and things get a little more serious and intense. Although the schedule is subject to change, the Vikings have 5 consecutive days of full pads practices scheduled, beginning each day at 2:45 and concluding at 5:30. Camp has looked good and there has been alot of focus on the passing game, wich I hope goes well. Vikes look good on defense and they can certainly run the ball, add a potent passing game and this team becomes extremely dangerous. Just 12 days, including today, untill their first pre-season game against the Texans, August 9th. Football will be here soon. Looking forward to it, myself. What say you?
Just for fun...a flashback. Lots of cool highlites, till the real deal begins this Fall.
I figured it's only fair that I come over and heckle the Viqueens fans a bit. So who's your QB and how many years back do you suppose Favre set your franchise back?
lol... Ive been waiting for that. What took you so long? Its just about football time and these boards are kinda slow. What do you think about your Bears this season? You guy's gonna be any good? Nothing beats the Vikings, Bears, Packers and Lions football rivalries. Best in the entire NFL imo. Stop back again...
Peterson has a goal of 2500 yards this season and Jared Allen is shooting for 23 sacks. Do you guy's think these are obtainable goals?
I don't know about 2,500 but I think a lot of people are having a hard time seeing Adrian duplicate last season. I'm of the mind set that any kind of a threat in the passing game early in the season should get Peterson started quickly and that over 2,000 yards is a realistic possibility. For Allen I think its possible but a long shot. He has posted double digit sacks the last 6 seasons and 7 of the last 9 so he definitely is capable. The big thing he has going against him is that the Vikings rarely have a sizable lead making it difficult for him to have numerous situations where he can simply pin his ears back and attack late in the game.
If Jared Allen lines up over J'marcus Webb both games he may end up with ten sacks in those two games alone. I don't see AP getting 2500 yards myself. Best Running back since Walter Payton in my opinion, I don't see him sustaining another 350 carry season with an 6+ yard average.
This is what im really looking forward to seeing how it plays out. Alot of defensive schemes were to load the box and stop the run. With the Vikings aven being just a little better in the passing game, wich i think they will be, this is going to be a win, win, situation for the Vikes offense.
lol...he's got some issues, eh? J'Marcus Webb is moving back to the right side after spending the previous two seasons at left tackle. The club hasn't had a right tackle start all 16 games since John Tait in 2008. I read in the tribune, that the offensive line is still a work in progress. Good luck, anyway, except when you play the Vikings.
Christian Ponder continues to progress. He had a pass heavy practice Thursday where he had to make more difficult throws. On Friday he made less throws than the day before but in this practice he made more throws from the pocket even with the rush in his face. He stepped up and made some solid throws throughout the practice. Glad to hear good reports coming from camp. Hearing good stuff about the defensive line too. Rookie, Floyd, has been impressive thus far, creating pressure all week.
The Minnesota Vikings' offense in general and quarterback Christian Ponder in particular began to show some spark at the end of the first full week of training camp. After being dominated in practices by the defense, the offense looked crisp and in some cases explosive during Saturday night's practice in front of about 10,000 fans at Mankato State University's Blakeslee Stadium. Never mind that the Vikings' defense was down to its fifth cornerback and also rested some of the older veterans during parts of the practice. After the week the Vikings' offense had, one can't be too picky with the progress that was made. "Much sharper," said coach Leslie Frazier, looking a little relieved as he talked about the offense. During the 11-on-11 red-zone segment of practice, Ponder completed 4 of 4 passes with touchdowns to No. 1 receiver Greg Jennings and Stephen Burton, one of several players fighting for the fifth receiver spot. Ponder also hit a couple of nice deep balls, showing some touch that had eluded him during most of the first seven days of practices. "To hit that explosive to Jerome, that's what we're hoping to see," Frazier said. "If we can do that, we can loosen up the secondary and force teams to not play their safeties in the box."
wow interesting Ponder showing some improvement huh, crisp sharp even explosive hope he can be this way during the Reg.Season...as its Ponder's time to shine its also time for Frazier to show he can get the job done....i really hope the Vikings have a good year or its going to be a long one...hey i watched that AP Hero Awesome!
Vikings star defensive end Jared Allen limped into the locker room with a sprained ankle Tuesday afternoon. Allen had his left ankle taped and appeared to be in pain, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. Per the report, Allen hurt his ankle during a two-minute drill and couldn't return. Vikings coach Leslie Frazier indicated that Allen will need more tests on the ankle to determine its severity. "We'll look it over, and determine whether or not we need to do an MRI," Frazier said.
the injury to Jared Allen and Harrison Smith Frazier said they should be just fine, the injury bug been like a wild fire in training camps...i want to see Bill Musgrave and Frazier open up the playbook no more this Dink and Dunk
Glad to hear their going to be alright. Great news. Key for Vikings in game 1 tomorrow night...stay away from injuries. Cassel should see a good amount of work.
Vikings fall 27-13 in their first pre-season game against Houston. Im glad there is still time for some practicing. Who saw the game? What did you think?
Patterson looked great and Floyd...Simpson? Cassel looked ok want to see more and Ponder looked ok want to see more...the Vikings looked ok just wanted to see more, the Vikings have a chance of being pretty good with some decent QB play....( INT ) sigh
That seems to be the main concern by a lot of people. He has improved each of the seasons he has played and I dont see any reason why he wont improve this season. He's got some talented recievers to pitch in this time too. If he can improve just a little, and the Vikes stay healthy, I can see them making a run for the playoffs again. Nobody picked em last year and they were a very good surprise football team.
