The thread for you to discuss, dissect, and basically piss on every offseason move the Bears make. Let’s go.
So far the Bears have inquired about interviewing Leslie Frazier and also reached out to Doug Pederson.
Georgie going the diversity route heavy with GM interviews. Two Browns guys; chief scout Glenn Cook, who I know nothing about and Kwesi Adolfo-Mensah the VP of football ops, who I also know nothing about. Any smart Browns fans know anything about these guys and can enlighten us? @Lyman, @IrishDawg42? Last is Colts' Morocco Brown (who I definitely didn't confuse with a weed strain), Director of scouting. Really like this guy and his OLine finds.
All I know is that Haslem tries very hard to fill his rooms with guys smarter than he is. Cook has been there for awhile now and has survived multiple regimes. One thing it tells me is he is smart enough that whomever is in there wants him to stay and two, he is loyal to a franchise when given an opportunity. Other than that, he’s been around to scout a lot of successful draft picks. They haven’t really missed hard on anyone, unless you are in the camp that thinks Mayfield is a huge miss, and also thought that 4 years ago. Regardless, he wasn’t the one making the pick, but he was one of the evaluators. Adolfo-Mensa.. one of those smartest guys in the room type. Hell, he has Mensa in his name. Seriously though, I honestly don’t know much about him other than he is Ivy League.
Yeah if true this is fucking stupid. Wasn't Ireland the guy who asked Dez Bryant if his mom was a prostitute before cutting Vontae Davis on Hard Knocks and leaving the Phins a clusterfuck, record/cap-wise while also sucking at drafting? Speculation is that he can be the guy who reels in Jim Harbaugh. The NFL changed its rules to penalize teams draft picks for 'improper interviewing tactics' of new draftees. Another GM who throws away draft picks like candy? Sign me up... Well I'm sold LOL. The draft aspect sans Mayfield is fascinating. Lot of picks to like for modern NFL teams. They believe in drafting noninjured OLinemen, DBs, and DLinemen. Hopefully neither was the driving reason behind acquiring OBJ.
So first the Bears request to speak to Leslie Frazier, who i will always view fondly as an '85 Bears player, but as a coach is one of the last people i want the Bears to hire for HC. Now DBB is saying they are gonna interview Jeff Ireland for GM, probably the last guy i want in the role unless Bill O Brien throws his hat in the ring. Also fuck that guy who does DBB for going after Olin Kruetz this week and trying to cover for the Bears. Yesterday i had a renewed and desperately need optimism. Within 4hours that had been replaced by nothing but the familiar blind hope. And now even that is quickly ebbing away. This has not been a good start.
What forever pisses me off is when Georgie/Teddy talk about what type of coach they want and they rattle off the clichés about intelligence and high-character, but NEVER once mention anything to do with football strategy, technique, fundamentals, etc. Not that any of that is surprising but just shows how utterly hopeless everything is. I'm not going to give any HC and GM the benefit of the doubt right off the bat, as I've done in the past with each hire. I will 100% assume they suck balls until proven otherwise.
I don't really have an issue with Bowles. But I too prefer an offensive coach just because I don't trust a guy like Bowles to be able to hire a capable OC. Add Rick Smith to the potential GM list....Bears have reached out.
