Since we tagged Njoku and haven’t addressed much defensively despite the number of losses from that side currently, without re-signing anyone significant. This is my defensive draft mock. 1. Evan Neal OT Alabama 2. Garrett Wilson OSU 3. Kayvon Thibodeaux Edge Oregon 4. Kyle Hamilton S Notre Dame 5. Ikem Ekwonu OT North Carolina State 6. Kenyon Green OG Texas A&M 7. Chris Olave WR OSU 8. George Karlaftis Edge Purdue 9. Aidan Hutchinson Edge Michigan 10. Travon Walker Edge Georgia 11. Matt Corral QB Mississippi 12. Ahmad Gardner CB Cincinnati 13. Charles Cross OT Mississippi State Trade #13 for #18 and #49 14. Jordan Davis DT Georgia 15. Andrew Booth Jr. CB Clemson 16. Jameson Williams WR Alabama 17. Malik Willis QB Liberty 18. Browns - Jermaine Johnson Edge Florida State Wide receivers gone before the next pick at #44 2. Detroit Lions - Garrett Wilson Ohio State 7. NY Giants - Chris Olave Ohio State 16. Philadelphia Eagles - Jameson Williams Alabama 22. Los Angelos Raiders - Drake London USC 29. New England Patriots - Treylon Burks Arkansas 39. Chicago Bears - Jahan Dotson Penn State 43. Atlanta Falcons - Alec Pierce Cincinnati WRs between 44 and 78 45. Green Bay Packers - Jalen Tolbert South Alabama 60. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Christian Watson North Dakota State 68. Houston Texans - John Metchie III Alabama 69. NY Jets - Romeo Doubs Nevada The rest of the Browns draft: 44. Christian Harris LB Alabama 49. Devonte Wyatt DT Georgia 78. David Bell WR Purdue 100. Skyy Moore WR Western Michigan 106. Mychael Wright CB Oregon 117. Darrian Beavers LB Cincinnati 155. Matt WaletzkoOT North Dakota 161. Smoke Monday S Auburn 221. Jack Coan QB Notre Dame For that haul of a Browns draft, we could do worse than David Bell and Skyy Moore for WR additions.
For the previous draft the debate is, what is the drop off at WR after Drake London, Treylon Burks and Jameson Williams, vs. the drop off at Edge between Jermaine Johnson and Drake Jackson USC, Arnold Ebiketie Penn State or Boye Mafe Minnesota. That is the big difference here on what that first pick means. I would love to hear thoughts on this question.
This feels like a very good draft for wide receivers but not so much for EDGE defenders. In light of recent news too that Jadeveon Clowney intends to sign elsewhere, we're going to be looking at a massive hole in the front four now. If we cannot reunite Myles with Emmanuel Ogbah in free agency, we may need to consider #13 a DE pick.
Using PFF.com's mock draft tool... here's the draft du jour: Address our three of our four biggest needs: WR, DE, RT and adds a lot of special teams value (Marcus Jones, top returner in the class and Matt Araiza, top punter). Should be noted that PFF.com doesn't have our extra third round pick (compensatory from the JC-2A resolution) which may be in a spot still to nab Jones without the above trade. That would leave both fourth rounders for a FS and TE pick up.
Looks like all our chatter about one of the top two or three WR's in this draft possibly coming to Cleveland is out the window...I still think we can find talent at the position later in the draft, though I wouldn't be surprised to see Berry making some trades down the board to try and regain some draft capital. Several players I've mentioned earlier might be real possibilities of becoming our first pick this year though, including Christian Watson and Perrion Winfrey. We'll see how the rest of free agency plays out, as I suspect we aren't done yet. Clowney could be returning and that will obviously effect our draft situation. Also, now it seems Center has become a high priority I would think.
Compensatory picks announced, and the Browns get one of the most valuable awarded.. Third Round No. 97 — Lions No. 98 — Saints No. 99 — Browns No. 100 — Ravens No. 101 — Saints No. 102 — 49ers No. 103 — Chiefs No. 104 — Rams No. 105 — 49ers Fourth Round No. 138 — Steelers No. 139 — Ravens No. 140 — Packers No. 141 — Ravens No. 142 — Rams No. 143 – Titans Fifth Round No. 176 — Cowboys No. 177 — Lions No. 178 — Cowboys No. 179 — Colts Sixth Round No. 211 — Rams No. 212 — Rams No. 213 — Falcons No. 214 — Chargers No. 215 — Cardinals No. 216 — Colts No. 217 — Lions No. 218 — Rams No. 219 — Titans No. 220 — 49ers No. 221 — 49ers Seventh Round No. 254 — Chargers No. 255 — Chargers No. 256 — Cardinals No. 257 — Cardinals No. 258 — Packers No. 259 — Chiefs No. 260 — Chargers No. 261 — Buccaneers No. 262 — 49ers
I'm having serious doubts about Christian Watson even being on the board at #44. That kid seems to be flying up draft boards. After blowing up the Combine, his stock is rising. We may have to move up if we want that Watson too Watson connection.
I agree with your assessment of Watson, however, I would expect the Browns to move down before moving up in the draft. With the depleted number of picks due to the Watson trade, I would expect Berry to start acquiring picks somehow.
Yeah, I think that's more likely...Watson might not be available when we pick, but if the Browns want a WR in the second round, they will find talent. It's a loaded class at that position. The best WR in football today (Kupp) was taken in the 3rd round, so ya just never know.....
After boldly trading for Deshaun Watson and Amari Cooper, here's what we have left in draft capital this year; Round 2 | Pick 44 Round 3 | Pick 78 Round 3 | Pick 99 (compensatory selection) Round 4 | Pick 118 Round 6 | Pick 202 (from DAL) Round 7 | Pick 223 Thanks to the comp pick, It doesn't look that bad for this year.. But then you consider that we also don't have a first rounder the following year, or the year after that, and well we can worry about that later. What can we do to fill some holes on this roster, particularly with those first three selections? Does the signing of Ethan Pocic mean we aren't looking at Center? I'm not so sure....Are we going to try drafting another Placekicker or a Punter with one of those late selections?
I'm not sure why it says (2) 2nd rounders in 2023 in the Mayfield trade, it was actually, this year's #49 overall and 2023 2nd round. I then traded down from #49.
I don't think there is any chance that Burks drops to the second round, but I was able to trade up, giving up the #99 compensation pick, then trade down from early 3rd rounder picking up a later (2) later 3rds to make up for the earlier trade. We really need to re-sign Clowney to have any leeway on draft day. I don't think Chase Winovich is going to replace his efforts...
We're going to need some CBs, Denzel Ward will be gone next year(2023). No way do I believe the Browns will get (2) 2nd rounders for Baker, but the SIM was excited to make that trade.
OK Browns nation, now that the dust has settled who are you hoping for tonight at #44?? Personally, I would like to see either Christian Watson or David Ojabo, then do what it takes to sign Clowney.
Watson or Pickens is what I'm hoping for, but I won't be surprised at all if it's DT. Hopefully Winfrey or Jones.
