  8. Underdog Franchise Player Patriots

    Lots of tough calls here.

MVP - Mahomes is going to win but after seeing the way the Eagles offense sputtered without Hurts and how easily Henne moved the Chiefs offense when Mahomes was hurt in the playoffs I think I would vote for Hurts.

OPOY - Jefferson was the most impressive offensive player I saw this year and the guy opponents seemed to be most afraid of. He gets my vote.

DPOY - I think Bosa probably wins but similar to Jefferson, Parsons just seemed scarier for opponents to deal with to me. And he’s in the conversation either as a pass rusher or off-ball linebacker. Impressive, my vote goes to him.

Comeback - coming back from an injury and putting up great numbers is impressive. Coming back from a decade of everyone but your mama and Pete Carroll believing you could not play QB in the NFL to put up a fantastic season and outplay the guy you replaced is phenomenal. No idea who the writers go for but Geno should win this.

Coach - honestly I think I’d replace this whole slate of nominees with Taylor, Carroll, and Sirianni with Carroll as my winner. Not that these three are undeserving, I would just rate the others a little higher. I suspect the NY angle gets Daboll the win but I would vote for Pederson.

Assistant - Johnson deserves a lot of credit for putting up such a high scoring offense without any superstars. The others are good candidates too (the Eagles going the whole season without having to burn a timeout because of playcall issues is impressive as hell, but maybe I’m just overrating that after watching the Pats O monkeyfuck their way through the season) but I think Johnson did the most with the least.

OROY - Wilson is my pick here, impressive season for a rookie wideout with the QB issues he was stuck with. I think Olave should’ve been nominated over Purdy (great story and all but still only 5 games vs 17)

DROY - this is the easiest one for me. Hutchinson and Woolen were excellent and could be easy winners in most other seasons. But Gardner was easily the most impressive rookie I saw on either side of the ball this year.

To elaborate, I think Hurts is the real MVP and I'm not just being a homer. If he didn't get hurt he wins it. Same shit happened to Wentz when he got hurt. He went from Frontrunner to having to settle for offensive player of the year as a consolation (from another award committee I think). Hurts will get the same treatment IMO and get it over Jefferson. If Jefferson got more TDs I don't think he'd lose it though.

I think Daboll and Pederson deserve to be 1-2. Jags were a mess with Urban and he fixed them. The Giants were a mess and somehow had that offense work despite crazy WR injuries AND trading Toney away.

I agree that coming back from mediocrity is better than injury unless it was truly gruesome.
