41% of the votes are in. MLB Network had a new show on it last night.

Mariano Rivera is at 100% of the vote right now.

    Roy Halladay is at 94%.

Edgar Martinez on his last year on the ballot will get in as will Mike Mussina.

Rogers Clemens, Barry Bonds and Curt Schilling are near the 75% and if they don't get in this year, they are getting in next year ! Wow!

Rivera, Halladay and anyone else who gets in will join Harold Baines and Lee Smith in Cooperstown this July. The panel and Mad Dog Russo bashed Baines getting in, but Robby Alomar, who was on the panel to vote him in stood by his decision and the panel's decision to vote him in. Sad that Baines has to hear that crap. Also sad that many hitters close to Baines will never get into the HOF.

Sad many other solid players get shot down by the panel last night. Mad Dog Russo, who comes off as an idiot, says no to voting for Fred McGriff because he never won an MVP. So what? Look at his stats. He missed 500 hrs by 7 and he played through a lockout. He easily has over 500 hrs without the lockout.

Larry Walker gets punished because he played his home games at Coors Field. So? He also played for the Expos in a huge stadium. Can't fault the player for where they played. Same for Todd Helton. The stadium should be irrelevant if the stats are there.

HOF Announcement is next Tuesday, the 22nd. Will be fun to see who gets in !!

McGriff, Walker, and Helton should all be locks now that Baines is in. Nothing against Baines but those guys were all demonstrably better so they should be guaranteed to get in on the committee vote even if the writers don't put them in. Lou Whitaker should finally get in, too.

Now they just need to get their heads out of their asses on Marvin Miller and George Steinbrenner.

miller and big george fall on a different set of voters. baines will open the door that was locked to players who didn't get the votes or love on the regular ballot process. now it takes only 14 people and a % to vote you in now.

mcgriff, walker and helton i believe are still on the regular ballot.

They're 16 person committees with the same 75% threshold as the writer's vote (so 12 votes needed). And I was speaking of the committees collectively, not just the "Today's Game" one. I understand Big Stein and Miller will presumably fall under the "Modern Baseball" committee (though they and Sweet Lou could arguably fall under Today's Game, as well...kind of a dumb way to split things up honestly). Miller in particular is quite simply the most egregious omission from the Hall and it needs to be corrected.

Yes, hence why I said "if the writers don't put them in," they'll assuredly get in via the committee later on. :)

the smaller committees are under fire for Baines induction and the omissions you speak of. they created it, so it's on them. i mean how many damn committees do they want ?

^^surprised after 41% of the vote came in last week that Bonds, Clemens and Schilling dropped off so much. I have no qualms with Rivera being 100% but in a HOF of Cobb, Ruth, Mathewson, Young, Johnson, Grove, Musial, Aaron, Williams, DiMaggio, Ott, Foxx, Aaron, Mays, Musial, and about 20 others, he shouldn't have been the first unanimous vote.

Next year - Jeter is a lock and maybe 100% and maybe Schilling.

I liked your post, but disagree on Jeter being 100%, but you did say 'maybe', I doubt that, to be honest... vast majority, but not 100%.

Mo going unanimously was no surprise to me and I think he stacks up well with those 'all-time greats' you mentioned.

Schilling, Bonds and Clemens on the outside looking in is exactly where they ought to be. If you let them in, open the doors for Rose. Cheating is cheating is cheating. I don't care if you lied, gambled or took drugs, its all the same in my book.

LOL, there'd probably be like 3 guys left in the HOF by that standard.

    Why shouldn't Jeter be 100% Will ?

Schilling is not accused of doing PEDs or named in the Mitchell Report. Bonds and Clemens are. They are not all in the same boat. Clemens, Bonds and soon to be Arod are in the same PED boat. Schilling is just a big mouth tool that no one likes. Schilling will get in. Bonds and Clemens need a miracle.

Pete Rose is a totally different story. He broke the cardinal rule of baseball that is posted on every major and minor league clubhouse. he admitted he only signed the Dowd report because he really didn't think it was for a life ban from the game. he said if he knew it was really for life he wouldn't have signed it. regardless of his mistake of signing it, he signed it and is out. i don't agree that he should be banned from events or stadiums. that is idiotic. but he's off the ballot. my thing is his gambling did not affect his records and stats. he didn't take a dive or lose on purpose like the Black Sox. Yes, he should be banned from the game if you want, but the HOF ballot has no bearing on his stats. The HOF has Rose memorabilia shown in its display cases, but he's not in. Can't have it both ways.

Joe Morgan's infamous letter last year or 2-3 years ago to never let in a player accused of doing drugs is laughable. Greenies, amphetamines, pep pills etc are all a form of an enhancement. not as potent as PEDs/steroids, but an enhancement nonetheless. Plenty of players from Morgan's time and his own teammates took greenies, pills etc. He doesn't say shit about them ! I feel Piazza, Bagwell and Ivan Rodriguez took steroids but somehow were not on the Mitchell report, so the voters voted them in. To me if they got in, why not Bonds and Clemens, who were better than those players? Way too many holes and arguments about the PED guys and the HOF enshrinement. It will never be settled as alleged users are already in the HOF.

I heard the '86 mets were all on coke, what does that say for the rest of the league at that time?

funny bc their 2 biggest stars - Doc Gooden and Darryl Strawberry will never be in the HOF. THey were studs in the 80's but fell off hard due to drugs etc.

the 1979 Pirates were all coked up too. Same thing applies. If they were doing it, weren't other teams and players?

There are no perfect angels in baseball, but the pompus, arrogant, lie to my face guy's make me sick, lol. Its a mess really and in my opinion, doesn't really matter a whole lot to me who gets in or doesnt. I still think there is a difference between guy's in the past who bent the rules, than guy's in todays game who are not just cheating , but go before committee's and lie to your face...those liers, in denial guy's, piss me off the most. Legends are legends and I have my memories, books and www, to check out the past and just focus on the great achievements ive seen and heard of in baseball.

Maybe if you have the stats, and popular public opinion, let them in (Bonds, Clemens, McGuire types) and simply put up a statement of what other things they accomplished including their cheating and what not. It really makes none to me. I just want fairness as far as possible, but fairness in a tainted sport/world is not easily discerned.

The amount of beer, coke and acid used in the 60's -90's will stagger the mind... like I said, these are no angels we are talking about. Not all are bad apples, but hell, a whole bunch sure were.

Mark McGwire is not in the same class as Bonds and Clemens except for he cheated. His stats are mainly HRs for his HOF candidacy. Bonds and Clemens were HOF'ers before they did steroids. That's why they're a special case for the voters.

One last thing on Pete Rose - the main person responsible for not letting him back on the ballot is Pete Rose himself. If he came out years earlier and admitted he gambled, that would be a turning point. he lied for years and years and thumb his nose at the voters. then he sets up a autograph booth next to the HOF and charges $40 to sign baseballs saying "i bet on baseball." Another FU to the voters. And when former commish Bud Selig promised him a fair shake at a private meeting, what does Rose do - on the day of the new HOF class announcement, Rose admitted he bet on baseball taking the spotlight away from the new HOF class. That pissed Selig off something fierce. Rose never got the meeting with Selig. He got it with the new Commish or he reviewed the Rose case and ruled he would NOT be put on the ballot and reinstated. If Rose got on his knees and was truly sorry and threw himself on the mercy of the commissioner and votes, they may have changed their minds. Nope. He wants to be Charlie Hustle and be a huge asshole. That's why he was never reinstated. He brings it on himself.

The Phillies got permission to have Rose come to the stadium as they were going to put Rose in their Wall of Fame two years ago. Game was sold out. Rose Bobbleheads made and shown. What happens? A story about Rose and a 16 yr old a week before the game. the story was from the 1970's that Rose had an affair on his wife with a 16 yr old. Phillies cancel the Wall of Fame Ceremony and didn't put Rose in. Phils brass said they would never put him in again. Was Rose sorry? Did he apologize to the Phils fans and management for wasting thousands of dollars in advertising for the game and making thousands of bobbleheads that were wasted. Another FU from Rose, so FU to him. He knew the rules and he bet on baseball. Fuck him. His stats and hit records were before he gambled, but he gambled, so tough tookus.
