The Pittsburgh Penguins will play the Philadelphia Flyers in the Eastern Conference First Round. Pittsburgh (47-29-6) finished second in the Metropolitan Division and will have home-ice advantage. Philadelphia (42-26-14) finished third after clinching with a 5-0 win against the New York Rangers and then losses by the Columbus Blue Jackets and New Jersey Devils on Saturday. "I think all along we kind of had control of our destiny, so it's not like we were hoping or waiting on teams to lose," Flyers forward Sean Couturier said. "I think it's a good thing to go through that kind of pressure at the end of the year and to bring that into playoffs, I think it can help us." The Penguins, the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions, swept the four-game regular-season series against the Flyers, scoring five goals in each win, two in overtime. "I think any team in the playoffs is tough," Couturier said. "To win it all, you have to beat the best teams. Whoever we play, we'll be ready to go out there and try to win."
Capitals will play Blue Jackets in first-round Eastern series The Washington Capitals will play the Columbus Blue Jackets in the Eastern Conference First Round. Washington (49-26-7) finished first in the Metropolitan Division and will have home-ice advantage. Columbus (45-30-7) is the first wild card after losing to the Nashville Predators 4-2 on Saturday. "They're a good young team and they have a great goaltender, but for me it doesn't matter who you play," Washington forward Evgeny Kuznetsov said. "It's just like a fun time. You prepare all year for this moment and it doesn't matter who you play."

how do you guys feel about playoff teams resting players to avoid a specific matchup on Saturday night or Sunday ?
Why take an unnecessary risk? As a fan, it sucks to a degree due to missing out on seeing one more game, but it’s also worth it (as a fan) if you can assure your best players will be available for the start of the playoffs.
I think there's enough young talent on any team that you should be excited to see some less-often features players, while taking solace in the fact that your team is trying to get in better playoff position. As soon as the Panthers got eliminated, Borgstrom got time. Vrbata played in his last NHL game, pending planned retirement. Guys who deserved more spotlight time got it. I'm down with that, and if my team is going to the playoffs, the better positioning is what it's all about.
lol halo. way to be a good winner. i don't know what was uglier - that game, the flyers goalies, their defense or the girl i hooked up with on my 20th Birthday in college at a keg party. it was that ugly.
If the score wasn’t as lopsided as it was, I wouldn’t have said shit. I had to take a shot. We’re rivals.
