Sanders will likely be one of the first five picks tomorrow... wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he's #33.
I never really made my own personal big board in writing for the 1st round (weird right?). Trying to see just how high I had Jihaad Campbell and if Top 10 really does make sense. I took him at 18 the first mock when he fell to me simply as BPA and a fit like the Eagles explain in the above video but for Seattle. Abdul Carter Travis Hunter Armand Membou Cam Ward Mason Graham Ashton Jeanty Will Campbell Kelvin Banks Jr. Jalon Walker Jihaad Campbell That is probably my top 10 but I do have like 6 guys after that are close before it gets to the next group of players. Mike Green (if he wasn't off my board for legal issues) Will Johnson (without possible severe med concerns) Tyler Warren Tetairoa McMillan (talent but no drive?) Loveland and Mykel Williams I guess would be next before a drop to were it's a lot closer IMO, like my pick in the mock of Donovan Ezeiruaku and Nolen. They'd be near the top of the next group. Hence why I thought Ezeiruaku was my most realistic best case scenario in the mock. Green off my board. I think I can see why I liked Campbell's value at 18 (and why I and many had him low pointing at Tampa if he slid for need/med concerns) He really is at the end of that point where most people think he's a top 10 guy and maybe you have a few more personal favs mixed in. I think I'm pretty confident in saying that top 10 is probably my actual top 10 as I thought there was no way any of them would drop. 5 guys I like that I thought had no chance to reach near pick 32 if not for issues (you could obviously add Jihaad here ofc). Those being those other 6 names minus the TE because of whatever reason. 5th guy is Nolen who I felt would just go sooner but he got close in the mock. Sorry if it's confusing. I'm tired and edited many times.
Some 1st round. There were some real head scratchers, which i take to be a reflection of the talent/values available this year. You would think Hunter would be a hard one to turn down but that offer was just way too good. The Jags got proper fleeced there and i really like the Browns pick too, what great work. They've set themselves up well for the rest of this and next year's draft, i hope it works out cos God knows the fans deserve it. Bears did Bears things. Colts & Falcons both had open goals at #14 & #15 and both netted. The Falcons then blew it up with a horrific trade up for James Pierce. I mean nice player, but you just picked someone who could rush the passer and no way on God's green earth am i giving up my 1st round pick next year for this. Penix showed potential last year but he's young(ish), help him! @Campbell i think this is where you step in with an elaborate explanation of why this is a good move. Make it make sense lol. Simmons fell further than i thought he would. It was a serious injury but word is he's progressing on schedule. This feels to me like a potentially typical future Chiefs move that pans out beautifully and contributes to us having to suffer thru more SBs with them in it heh. I think a lot of people thought Sanders would fall, i didnt have him dropping out the round all together tho. Very surprised someone didn't move up to secure that 5th year option. The Saints? Speaking of which, when i was running the Saints in the collab mock draft thing i took Campbell at #9. Not that it matters much but i dont think anyone dropped a single like on that move, which i found interesting at the time cos people are always very transparent with the likes on other people's picks in those mocks, which i've always thought was a fun part of it. Anyway, Campbell was gone but the Saints did choose Banks which means i basically nailed that pick and its nice to get a pick right when you're running a team thats not your own.
Thats what I was thinking. I was a little surprised they didnt go QB. Frankly, I was hoping Sanders dropped out of the first round and the Dart pick for the Giants, I thought was great after securing, Carter early. The sneaky move was the Buccos snagging Egbuka early, I kinda liked that aggressive move. Honestly, I wasnt surprised by the Loveland pick for the Bears. Another weapon along with Kmet and the Ben Johnson thing with Michigan might have been a factor.
In a nutshell Neon II is the greatest , just ask him and he’ll tell you. Rumor has it he had demands for teams drafting him and said not all teams could handle his big personality. Anyone catch those stupid $ signs in his draft crib? I’m not saying Johnny Football 2 but similar vibes told you Tim Egbuka was WR2
Well, I took getting my drink on to another level last night. After the Browns pick and 4 Jameson’s, my buddy text and asked to have a drink at the local watering hole. Fuck me, I got home around 1:00, I think… my head is pounding and I took Tylenol before I went to bed. Still letting everything sink in. I’m torn on what to do here in the 2nd. Last night I was thinking, you know, after getting that #36 pick, it’s like a free pick to take a chance on Sanders, but now that I’m sobering up I keep coming back to this… with what I personally saw on tape, and what @Campbell is referring to here, I more apt to stick to my guns and just take two incredible players to help the offense get better for an average QB like Flacco. I love @Lyman mock pick at this spot A LOT!! #33 Luther Burden Come back at 36 and Hope and pray TreVeon Henderson is sitting there. Then I do an about face, lol. Think about being resigned to the fact the offense is going to struggle and see Emmanwori sitting there staring me in the face. The need at safety is real and one of the best could close that hole in the roster. Lots of great choices here and I still feel like QB isn’t one of them…
lol Like the Penix move last season, at first glance, I actually like this. Kaden Ellis will play ILB next to Troy Anderson, so the interior is locked up. But look at what they had going into this draft on the outside - Leonard Floyd and Arnold Ebiketie. If they had a grade on Pearce that was close to Walker, and they didn't have a similar grade on what they viewed as available players when they were coming back around, then they just nabbed two first round talents at a position of need and likely netted two starters by season's end. I know you have personal experience watching Floyd, so drafting someone to upgrade over Leonard after drafting a day one starter on the other side is some easy math to get behind. Giving up the future first is a tough pill to swallow, but the Falcons are likely in a solid position to compete and win that division, especially after adding dual threats to rush the quarterbacks in the NFC South. Chasing down Bryce Young, Baker Mayfield and a one-armed Derek Carr just got a whole lot easier for the Falcons. @Torgo - are you on board with what ATL did?
Good teams do good team shit and take players other teams should have never passed on. Simmons is my OT2 in this class.
I'm wondering how much he tried to game the system. If he and his father were truly trying to navigate the draft and get him to a spot they preferred, he may have purposefully gone into some meetings with a chip on his shoulder and into others with a better attitude. This would line up with the mixed bag of reviews that were reported from those meetings. As for the Giants taking Dart over him - Makes sense from the viewpoint of what Daboll would like to do on offense, but you just went through the debacle with Jones so I would have thought you would be more cautious in avoiding a potential repeat. That conversation we had earlier in the offseason about GMs getting a chance to save their jobs for a little longer by drafting a passer? This kind of feels like what they are trying to do here, but I'm not sure it's going to accomplish the goal. I always hope these kids crush it and prove me wrong, but this feels like it's only going to lengthen the timeline for the Giants to get back to being competitive in that division. Then again, they could simply be horrific this season and pull the trigger on Arch at the top of next year's draft...
Looking down the board - I actually like what most of the league did. The Browns trading away from Hunter to add Graham to the middle is an interesting choice. I'm not as high on Mason as some, but his path to success got a lot easier being lined up next to Garrett. For the Jags - That's a lot of capital to give up for Hunter, but I imagine the visions of him catching ropes from Lawrence and being a 3rd down ballhawk on defense may have clouded any logical thinking. My initial reaction is that I like it, but I'm going to take a closer look this weekend before stamping it. McMillan feels like the first pick that I'm concerned with. This feels like ownership stepping in and refusing to believe that he may have got it wrong when he put his finger on the scales and had the coaching staff, which he then fired, draft Bryce Young. I think we can expect a lot of two tight ends sets from the Bears this season. They could view the running back room as ready to rock with Swift and Johnson but having those two picks in the second kind of leans towards another rusher coming into the room. I know Henderson and Judkins are going to be the talk of the day when it comes to RBs, but doesn't Dylan Sampson feel like a 'Gibbs' for this equation? I wasn't surprised with the Cowboys pick and I'm on board with it. I have to circle back this weekend to the Cards and Nolen. My thought process is kind of all over the board on that one. How many people here feel like the Vikings went way down the board to get an IOL at the bottom of the first? Conerly to the Commanders is fucking solid. And of course, Philly and KC decide to just do smart things, shake hands and make plans to see each other again in the last game of the season...
The Steelers with Harmon felt like a done deal from the start of the process. Same with the Seahawks and Zabel. Really like the choice of Williams for the 49ers. Grant to the Dolphins is solid. Starks to the Ravens is not as good as Emmanwori, IMO, but is still a really good move. Hampton and Harris about to make the TOP for the opposition non-existent. Barron to Denver is a nice move. I dig how Detroit just said, 'fuck it, give me that cinder block for the defensive front and let's go get a beer'. Hairston is solid for the Bills. Again, just not a lot to hate on in this first round.
Will Johnson not producing any athletic numbers during the process had to really curb some enthusiasm for him.
it’s going to come down to having an extra first next year and what can you do with it? the way I see it, they can take care of passing on Hunter THIS year. They already took a difference maker on defense, who I believe will make a bigger impact than Hunter would have..ON DEFENSE. Now, if they get a play maker at WR with either of these next two picks and that player has a bigger impact than Hunter does in Jacksonville…ON OFFENSE… the Browns already win the trade. A lot is going to depend on these next two picks coming up. Pretty much laid it out above… Now, if Hunter makes an immediate impact to Trevor Lawrence career, you’re already a winner. If he can make a few plays on defense scattered throughout the year, that is icing and they will win the trade. It is very possible, they both win on this trade. The fact Jax already has their QB makes Hunter a better fit for the Jags going into his rookie season. With the sudden WR room they have there, it’s possible for him to learn the offensive playbook and still have some time to work in a couple of defensive schemes he can rotate into.
