Gonna need some more people to make it work. I'll set up a thread with a signup sheet. Anybody want to throw a start date out?
In. Posted on sign up sheet. 2 teams if need be. In fact preferred since one of mine is the f'ing Jets.
TAKE TWO Pick your two odds on favorites from the top 10 to move down in the first round: Titans Browns Giants Patriots Jaguars Raiders Jets Panthers Saints Bears
Oof, this is a tougher one. Not because I'm convinced not many teams will want to move down, rather, I don't think they are going to have enough teams wanting to move up this year. The trade value might not be there, like it has been in recent past. If I'm going to pick though, I'm going with the Bears and Browns.. I know the Browns need an insertion of youth being without first and second round draft picks for mutiple years in a row. I believe the Bears have had limited draft picks as well recently. I think it will be more about aging rosters willing to move down to add more picks, rather than a lot of players demanding a war to see who can move up and get them. Because of that, some teams may be willing to move up because the price tag will be lower than in the past. Also, the Browns are doing everything in their power to NOT take a QB in this draft. I think the Giants are going to want the QB in the end and they will give up their 2nd round pick in 2025 to move up one spot. I think the Browns will be in a mindset of, if they stay, the value of the pick almost demands taking a QB if there are prospects deemed worthy by the experts. A simple trade down will remove that pressure, if both the first picks are QBs. Then they will still be able to take whomever they wanted at #3, with an extra pick to add more youth. Giants give up #3 and #34 / Browns give up #2 and #104 Bears pick at #10: there will be one of the OT's left that they should pick, but instead move down 4-8 spots and don't take the OT that they desperately need. They get a TE instead. The way the Titans have approached free agency, they are making it pretty obvious they are drafting a QB at #1. This will set up the draft to go BPA after the two QBs are gone. Dart could enter the picture for the top ten, but I don't know that he will have a good enough pro day to win the heart of one of the GMs.
Starting to feel like there is less of a gap between Abdul Carter and James Pierce than what is being played out in the media. First, I think they both feel like more natural fits as a 3-4 OLB. Second, the athleticism gap is much smaller than what some would perceive, with the primary differences being Carter's elite bend but comparative lack of strength to Pierce's rigidness yielding much more power. Abdul may not be able to make a living with all that finesse, so he is going to have to become more powerful with his hands and learn leverage with leg and hip strength, so he doesn't continue to be on the ground so much. Pierce may have a naturally higher floor because he possesses the explosiveness combined with power, so learning to get under OTs on the outside and utilizing counter moves off of the bull rush could be something he quickly adapts to.
I took Pierce over Green for one reason alone, The Sexual allegations against Green concern me, ask any Brown's fan how that impacts a player. There was one in high school, then one in Virginia, which resulted in a dismissal. Could they be bogus, sure, could it be a pattern, yup. Why is a teenager out at 1 AM putting himself in that situation with everything to lose. Green is really good, led the nation in sacks, but......... The guy with possibly the best bend and dip isn't even Carter, Green, or Pierce, It's Ezeiruaku. Back to gaps, I think there is less of a gap between Jeanty and Hampton, probably 10 spots on my board as opposed to most of the popular sites.
Pierce is definitely on the lower end of the listed players, but Carter sits at the top of that list when it comes to having that ability. But I like Ezeiruaku's leverage more, and he might have the best feet in this class of rushers. He has the ability to change his step and get small, long or wide with his feet when creating his attack, and he does it quicker than most. There are a couple things about Green that keep me from really getting excited about him. He spends too much time throwing himself into the tackles lap, OCs were not afraid to single block him and he gets lost in misdirection a little much. He's violent, but when passers simply step up and let the tackles do the work, he tends to get washed to the outside.
Something I missed, It seems like James Peirce has some maturity issues, may fall out of round 1. I guess if I had to repick for Arizona again, I would have taken Shemar Stewart. I know he slimmed down to smoke the combine, I wonder what his playing weight will be. The games I watched he was living in the backfield, very disruptive. Quew moved up to get him, I think I did a disservice to Arizona, because he wasn't high on my board since he's a tweener for the Steelers, in between OLB and 5 technique. And my board is geared towards Steelers type of players and BPA at a position of need. A poster on a Steelers site I also post on, mentioned Jahade Barron's arms are under 30", pigeon holing into the role of CBS. Does anyone else have an opinion on this? One more, Will Johnson hasn't played a snap, worked out or participated in anything football related since October 5th. Turf toe sidelined him for the season. Now he has aggravated a hamstring, Don't know about you guys but he does not scream Blue Chip cannot miss project without any concerns. What say you?
Guy gives me some 'Quinton Coples' vibes. He actually looks better when they stand him up wide off the edge, but he would be a massive OLB in a 3-4 scheme. I don't think there has been anyone since Mario Williams that would be that big trying to play that position. Maybe Terrell Suggs and Lamarr Woodley played at a similar weight, but with less height, so that would be an interesting chunk of clay to try and mold to that role, considering Stewart appears more athletic than both coming into the league. I don't think Pearce was a bad pick, but he might be higher on my board than most. I would like Johnson more, and Barron too, if I didn't have to shake my head so much when they are trying to make tackles. Johnson finds ways to get himself awkward with the ball carrier too much, and I don't like some of the lack of effort in run support. There is at least one example of a play being on the opposite side of the field where he is just kind of jogging towards the ball carrier, the runner breaks out and then he turns it on. If he is hustling from the start, it might be a 20-yard play instead of 40 or more. Barron does some of the same shit, but he occasionally takes some really bad angles to the ball carrier. If the only CB name we here in the first 16 is 'Travis Hunter', it really wouldn't surprise me.
I think with Johnson you really need to stick to the 2023 tape. I thought he played the run really well overall. He certainly is not without risk. Just have to trust your medical team I guess if you’re going to commit early. My bigger concern with him is how frequently he seemed to bite on double moves. MHJ beat him up a bit. But that’s the trade-off sometimes with young “ball-hawks”; you get the big plays. But you also get the big plays . I think his ultimate draft spot might come down to finding a coordinator or position coach who holds sway in his GMs ear. If I was forced to guess today, he’ll land around 9-15 somewhere. There were a lot of questions about Stingley’s health and effort too. That one turned out okay. Barron I think will be largely a nickel. And probably a good one. The arms aren’t ideal. But give me a nickel with short arms, elite instincts and very good athleticism over a guy with vines whom you have to teach to read the game any day.
There are 5 teams that need a QB this year, but how many will go in round 1. Sanders is not a lock for a top 5 pick, his range is 2-21. If he flies off at 2, do the Giants overdraft Dart? Then does N.O. overdraft Shough? Me thinks it is more likely QBs fall this year, past Cam Ward, then teams will pass on the next group, but then move up to get them once day 1 winds down. What say you guys? The best mock example I can find of this is Lance Zierlein. I ran 3 simulators today for Pittsburgh, you can check them out on the Kiper Sucks thread. Has anyone else found Path to the Draft geared towards the casual idiot? Man I miss Mike Mayock and his pound the table guys, and the late round sleepers. This discussing of top 20 picks is getting pretty F'n old. Give me a WR that could be there on day 3 and contribute, give me a OL or DL that will translate well to the pros. This let's talk about Shedeur Sanders for a half hour is STUPID. Maybe tomorrow at 2:30 they can give us some predictions of Jimmy Horn instead of hobbing the knob of Sanders and Hunter. Doubtful, but one can hope.
Unfortunately this is what virtually all media has been reduced to. I miss Mayock too. And more Mariucci and Sapp to be honest. Sapp screwed himself. But he was entertaining
I have some X's and O's guys that do a lot of draft work that I love to listen to but they are mostly Giants podcast guys talking from the Giants perspective. They are serious X's and O's film guys but it's all so tailored to the Giants I'm not sure it would be particularly enjoyable for fans of other teams... This tends to be the best I can find these days. Just some guys who know ball that do podcasts focused on one team.
I might argue there is more... Cleveland NY Giants, despite their recent QB signings NY Jets despite Justin fields Las Vegas despite Geno Smith LA Rams, they are just about done with Stafford. New Orleans Pittsburgh, even if they sign Rodgers And the obvious, #1 picking Tennessee Titans 8 teams NEED QBs... Now, that being said, needing one and there being one that you have trust in taking before the 3rd round is very different. I agree 100% I think it is more likely Sanders falls to the Steelers at #20 than Dart climbs into the top 5. I think the over under should be set at 2.5 QBs in the first round. I know they want to elevate QBs because it creates clicks. I also understand every year teams over value QBs out of need. However, this is my argument. No one in the class is graded high enough to be ranked in the top ten overall prospects. Only Cam Ward, imho, has a first round grade on him. Sanders is more closely graded to Dart, Milroe and Howard...The news about Shough and McCord climbing towards a first round spot are completely unjustifiable. I do think Sanders ends up going in the first round. I also believe Dart and Milroe will go in the second round, but I don't believe another QB goes until the 3rd. These guys just don't have a high enough grade to win out against the top 100 prospects in this draft. We all know 2nd round grade QBs have been taken in the top ten. We have a first round grade guy that will go #1 overall this year and that second round guy that will go in the first round somewhere... The rest of these guys don't have a third round grade on them, yet a couple will sneak into the second, which will be over drafting them. It's going to be fun to watch the talking heads continue into late Friday night talking about this guy and that guy "falling". Reality is, they were never high on the list to begin with.
While I agree with most of this, my counter argument, and it’s for Dart, is if both Penix and Nix were top 12 “prospects”, I don’t see how in the same world Dart isn’t a top 28 prospect. I could see Sanders falling a bit between 5-12. But then Dart getting pushed up between 20-30 for one of those other 6 QB needy teams you mentioned, simply trying to beat the other 5 to the punch. Will be an interesting storyline to follow. Personally I love the idea of Dart for like Pittsburgh or LA Rams. Rams don’t have the ammo on the surface. But crazier things have happened.
It's going to be fun to watch the talking heads continue into late Friday night talking about this guy and that guy "falling". Reality is, they were never high on the list to begin with. I love it when Mel Kiper gets that just pumped the neighbors cat look. How could my #15 graded player still be there. Well Jackass you don't work for an NFL team that's why. If you play the drinking game and are stuck with ESPN, do a shot every time Mullet Head says "here's a guy". You will be obliterated by the second hour. -+ Only Cam Ward, imho, has a first round grade on him. Sanders is more closely graded to Dart, Milroe and Howard...The news about Shough and McCord climbing towards a first round spot are completely unjustifiable. Spot on, have heard and seen mocks with Shough really high, but not McCord. Sanders is getting the push because of his daddy, his arm strength is good not elite. 8 teams NEED QBs... I agree with this, but I was really referring to round 1 Dawg, teams who might take a QB. The Jets are so dysfunctional, there is no player in any round they take who would shock me. I hope for you and your fan base, they take Carter or Hunter, then let the dust settle and take a QB at 33. Not sure Hunter makes sense, you have a solid Secondary. The same goes for Pittsburgh and my Homies, take DL, you cannot let Jackson and Henry run wild on you. In that mock from Zierlein, Steelers moved back to 26 with the rams and took Harmon. But what annoys me is that, ok, yeah, no further info. I broke it down on the Kiper Sucks thread, in detail but it's 21 for 26 and ???? Rams have 90,101, 190,195, 201,202 throw out the trade chart, Stafford is winding down, they are in win now mode. I didn't include the 127 pick, made no sense, they cannot leave a gap between 101 and 190 that is suicide.
Well there will be a stud at 32 and the Frieking Eagles are going to take him. In fact Cleveland at 33 might move up to 32 to get a QB if let's say Dart doesn't go to get him on a 5 year rookie deal. Then the rich get richer. How the hell they got Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean just baffles me. I think The Eagles are on of the most likely to trade teams out there with picks 32, 64,96,134,161,164,165,168. Basically no picks in the 6th or 7th round but 4 picks in the 5th all clustered together.
