And that’s where I was willing to buy in. He’s not a glorified track specimen, but he just shows up ready to play. Eagles need a guy to be their #3 and he has that potential to be.
If they choose this path, play D with good coaching and run the ball, they should win at least 7. But you aren’t wrong. My job isn’t on the line, so it’s easy for me to take the long view. But I think if you take an average QB the front office and staff is getting cleaned out anyways, just one year further down the road.
I had this same thought. He was ALL OVER Cam Ward's film. Had 100% of Ward's trust and seemed to have a knack for finding space. But man that 40 was simply "not NFL speed" real scary.
An average passer would buy them this season and half of next. But you aren't winning 7 games with Kenny Pickett. He was 7-5 his two years in PIT and looked horrible doing it. The Browns are not going to be able to replicate that limited success with Kenny. If they go into the season with Pickett as the starter, they should be fired. If they give up more than some very limited assets, and I'm talking some very late roundish types of picks for Kirk Cousins, then I don't see the point of trusting this management group to build the roster, and they should have been fired before the offseason started. This is the box they have put themselves in. A large part of it is due to an owner that royally fucked up with the Watson deal, but I'm not seeing enough on the rest of the resume that I'm willing to keep backing Berry and company.
I know I took Sanders in this draft, but honestly, I kind of hope the Browns take him and the Giants are "forced" to pick between Carter and Hunter. Even Cam Ward I would take him in a heart beat but I don't have anything close to the kind of certainty I felt about Drake Maye with him. I don't remember another year where I cared about QB's that I felt this "meh" about them.
He's going to separate and then immediately be covered again from DBs having far superior recovery speed. If you can get him off the line and hit him with something immediately out of the break, you can count on some short yardage gains off of quick hitting stuff. But that 40 time feels like it takes everything else off of the table for him.
I think the Giants signed Wilson and Winston with the intention of taking a passer at the top of the second or moving back into the first. It's basically the Sam play I laid out for the Darnold signing, but they nabbed two players instead of one for less of a price tag. And that's where I think the Browns may be playing a dangerous game if they are banking on taking Carter then grabbing a passer. Sanders will get taken before pick 20, IMO, which puts everything from PIT down in play for Dart. How's the room feeling about any other passer being the kind that would get a coach more than a season to work with as insurance for their job?
Why the Browns Brass cant see or comprehend these things is beyond my comprehension. Clearly in need of a QB and a future. I suppose the Carter stuff is possibly just a side thing going on, but you never know.
I am so sorry everyone. Life just got in the way and had too much going on. I should have asked for a replacement a 3 days ago. I deserve the wrath. Bring it on and please allow me to participate in future drafts. Won't happen again.
Patriots have seven picks still remaining (four 7’s)…even with a lacking roster this begs for some consolidation…keep us in mind if you’re looking to move down and gain a pick or two. Bourne, Peppers, Tavai and Strange can still be had, as well.
Do you still need someone for my teams (Jets/Jax) or is there a replacement? I see you're still in action.
I think what @RTTRUTH is saying and what @IrishDawg42 has been discussing about taking Carter makes sense, and my only real argument is that it doesn't address the elephant in the room - Getting Deshaun Watson into the rearview mirror and having a new talking point for the Browns and their fans. Drafting a big personality like Sanders would go a long way to change the view of that team on a national news scale. Then, you quietly stuff Watson in a body bag and move him off the roster, hoping that Shadeur is doing enough to keep everyone's attention going back to him immediately after Deshaun's body is fished out of the lake. Taking Carter achieves none of this.
