There's a lot of smoke re this pick and the Bears, and plenty on my team's board don't like it. TBH i didn't a month ago and i still don't love it im a trenches guy, but having got into a bit of film on Jeanty recently its v hard not to be impressed. Jeanty has already taken a team visit with he Bears, all kinds of local insiders are linking them, and the Lions/Ben Johnson showed with Jahmir Gibbs they arent afraid to reach on a RB(Jeanty is also a better prospect than Gibbs). If Campbell is on the board too in RL it'll be interesting to see what the Bears do. If it was me i would've taken Campbell, and it would've been easy to just give the Saints someone else to make that happen here but i played it straight. RTTRUTH touch on whether you draft for yourself or what the team would do. Every year i draft for myself, this time there's a lot of what the team would do. After all the FA moves I think the Bears would take Jeanty here.
Why? I love the pick! He is probably the most productive player to enter the league this year. He needs an OLine to be a future HOFer, but he can be very successful without one. He reminds me of Nick Chubb. He is the reason I wanted to desperately trade down. He and Abdul Carter are the best players in this class. No offense to Travis Hunter, as an athlete he is untouchable, but he isn’t the best CB or the best WR in this draft. The next level needs more than athleticism. He has more, don’t take that the wrong way, but the previous two players are the absolute top of their position groups and the best pure football players in their class.
I truly think Jeanty goes at 6. Raiders rb room is a nightmare. Give Geno somewhat of a shot at having some weaponry on the ground.
Atlanta-Bijan That is my rebuttal. And touches on what I was saying with the whole trade back-ideal scenario stuff.
Point being, Atlanta now picking 15, but not top 10. And certainly not at 31-32. An RB does not make you a Superbowl contender, and the tread starts wearing before you can fill out the rest of the roster. So I guess for myself, the last couple years I’ve really come around to the analytics era. At least as it pertains to drafting. Only certain high value positions are worth top 10 picks. The only reason you can counter-argue Detroit is because A) they hit a high level OC find. And B) they landed those great trade down value additions earlier so they could spend 12 on Gibbs. Hell, even then, it was 12 not 6. I certainly couldn’t in good conscience justify Jeanty at 6. I love the debate. But if I’m a new GM this decade inheriting a bottom 8 roster without a long term QB I can’t justify doing it.
Well without speaking for others too much, i dont think RB is seen as a good use of resources, for some of the reasons RT mentioned. I would add that 2nd contracts with high draft RBs can be troublesome also. We saw how the Cowboys got stung with Zeke. Bijan is an excellent player but the Falcons are gonna be placed in a tough spot with him soon enough too. The comparison to Chubb is a generous one. He has long been one of my fav non Bears players. You'd be v happy with a first 5years in the league like he had for sure. But its also true the Jeanty is one of not many elite level talents in the draft this year, so to land that at 10 makes a certain sense i would hope.
Also- I don’t get alerts from this site but I do from “x” (it will forever be Twitter to me) hit me up at @Sbrabo if you need me
And once again, I'm on deck with the Colts this time. If anyone is interested, inquire about trading up to our spot. It's a possibility.
And they already signed C Drew Dalman in free agency, so adding a top guard next to Dalman really helps that interior. I don't know how the real evaluations will pan out when we get to the actual draft, but in essence taking a top OL seems like a good move to me.
Yep... checking in and about to make the pick as soon as I figure out which name I want from my list for Miami. Probably 10 minutes... In the meantime, Atlanta would be open to trading down some if anyone is interested.
You'll probably get a double response on this. But they traded for two starting Guards already. Jonah Jackson and Joe Thuney. So at least in the short term, they're pretty set there. Pretty shrewd work by their GM really.
I'm torn like 5 different ways on what to do with the Colts on deck pick. Really I think I'm down to two names. Maybe Miami will help me out here. Or someone can inquire about moving up.
