Two days in and no deal yet for Tevin Jenkins. I think thats a telling commentary on how concerning his injury history is to teams.

Coleman Shelton back to the Rams.....to be a backup. Says it all.

It really does feel like Jeanty could actually happen.....

Tim is doing one of those 7 round mock drafts again, would any of you guys like to do the Bears? I did it last year, and will again if no one else steps up, but might be nice for someone else to have a go.

Hopefully the Raiders do us a favor here.

I feel like the Bears are treating the D line the same as how they treated the o line the past couple of years in FA. Landry, Sweat, Allen and Hargrave are all players I would have taken over Jarret and Odeyingbo. And it’s not like the prices were way off.

We passed on Verse in favor of a shiny offensive weapon last year. We can’t do that same shit this year. Unless the DT from Michigan falls take the best edge available. I wouldn’t hate an OT. Anything else is fucking dumb. You want to spend one of the 2 second rounders on a RB go ahead.

I know it’s smart to keep building the lines. You HAVE to figure at least one of these new guys will not work out as hoped. But supposedly Jeanty is generational. Don’t watch college so my opinion is irrelevant.

However… I predict the Raiders not only will not do us a favor, but Poles gets absolutely cornholed by them on a trade up to get his guy.

    Watch.

Dude, I was having a good day, why'd you have to speak this into existence. I believe he grabs him without a trade up, but man if he trades up for him, that's Pace levels of stupid.

While we were sleeping, the bears signed Olimede Zaccaeus, slot WR from the commies, and Jonah Jackson got a 1 year extension. Gets all 17.5 mil guaranteed on initial Rams deal this year, next gets 7 mil guaranteed. Unknown what the official number of the 1 year extension is.

I'd like to see Thuney get one too for 2 years. However, with none done--a guy like this you have to be patient/understanding with. If I had 4 rings, am 32 going on 33, got one huge payday when I left NE for KC, and they backloaded my money till my last year, retirement may be an option for him.

Ben Johnson was candid in a presser part 1 introducing Thuney, Jackson, and Grady Jarrett when asked why did he totally re-do the IOL, and he said he wants intelligence and players capable of doing more than one thing at a time in multiple looks and last year's personnel didn't match it.

Tevin's market presently is the Giants and Bengals courting him. I think a lot more goes into it than injury history.

If you're not taking a starting LT prospect in this draft, it's because you KNOW that Jones (or the Yale backup, el oh el) is your starter for thext 4+ years. This is his last year under contract, so if you're siging him to an extension as a starting LT, you're investing. Nothing about that sounds smart. But if I had to guess, Poles is already working on an extension for Jones instead of looking at upgrading the position. We'll see if the draft says otherwise.

Yeah because, ideally, you're ending next season with a better record and the team is trending up. So this is likely the best position they will be in for a while to draft a true blue chipish LT. In theory. In reality....we know things could be very different.

But that should be Poles mentality. Grab a LT now or you might not have another chance anytime soon. Do you believe in Jones that much? Because you shouldn't.

Loved the way he worded it when he spoke on it. This is how I want my coach to think.

Why is nobody prioritizing an off ball linebacker yet? Not saying we need one with the 10 but I’d say in the first 3-4 picks we need an impact player. Besides TJ, the rest were pretty ass.

Bears sign Jags WR/return man Devin Duvernay.

They also schedule top 30 visits with Josh Connerly and Will Campbell, 2 OTs and of course…Jeanty. The only 3 top 30 visits the bears have scheduled.

Thoughts on Conerly Pat? Could you see them picking him in the 2nd round?

  15. patg006 M.V.P. Bears

See him as a late 1st. Don't think he'll be there by the 2nd, but on the chance he is and he's on the board if the bears take a DE at 10, I'm in. Pure pass protector, phenomenal hands in pass blocking, and a straight attitude blocker like Kyle Long.

Kelvin Banks is a better run blocker, but both of them seem to be dinged by prognosticators and scouts alike as a minus because "he doesn't finish plays violently/dominantly enough." Well what the fuck does that mean? If he paves a lane and creates a 10/10+ yard gain for a half back who gets a 1st down or a TD, does it matter that he's not violent enough? No it fucking doesn't. The job got done.

Also, he's 6'4 and a half, 320 lbs, and 33 inch arms have the size queens in a tizzy and they call him "small" and suggest he should move inside, which every fucking moron does when they don't see an OT prospect with 34 inch arms.

Also, he was the butt of jokes during the senior bowl. Marshall DE Mike Green, a nobody before that weekend made his name as a 1st round talent on a rep against Connerly, where it flat out doesn't look good. You can find it easily on google/youtube, but Green trucks him and puts him on his ass. Kiran/Omiyale/Webb levels of bad. I will note, however, Connerly is a LT and he was at RG/RT during that particular rep, no doubt to try and sell himself as either side of the line OL--but I'm not putting as much stock into that one particular rep, because it was 1 rep in a 1 week exhibition game practice. That, and one rep doesn't make the player--see Taylor Decker getting Khalil Mack'd a few years back.

The same reason S, TE, and RB shouldn’t go early at all, despite the wide net of bears fans demanding them. It’s just not a need. Or a priority.

I don’t like Edmunds either but the bears are just stuck with him for one more year following the guaranteed $$. They also resigned Amen O. Depth from a late round pick seems more appropriate. The ND kid Jack Kiser with one of the 6ths or 7s can be the next great white hype LB to replace Sanborn. Or Jeff Bassa from Oregon late. He strikes me more as a Dennis Allen kind of pick.

Rylie Mills from ND is being mocked to the Bears a lot in mid to late round picks. He's my second cousins kid. It's a side of the family I don't speak to much, haven't seen Rylie since he was probably 4 or 5. Would be nice to have a Mills on the Bears roster though.

Don’t conflate the needs of TE and and an off ball linebacker as even close to the same.

Our linebacking corps sucked cock last year.

  19. patg006 M.V.P. Bears

I'm not conflating anything. TE and off-ball LB aren't needs other than depth.

You have 2 starters under contract, kind of like how you have a TE 1 already extended (and S and RB, as I mentioned). And while LBs weren't elite last year (the same argument can be made for all positions), was it because of talent/personnel or because of scheme? When you run a defense that's been outdated and the game's passed by for 2 decades, don't be surprised when your off-ball LBs running lazy 4-2-5 Eberflush cover who zone get picked apart by three of the brightest offensive playcallers in this division, one of which is now the HC here. Sure, Edwards and Edmunds are not other-worldly, but at the same time, when smart offensive coaches identify lazy zone, what do you think they're going to do?

They're going to put speed/talent where your off-ball LB cant get to fast enough. Why did Matt LaFleur constantly put Davonte Adams and Watson/others in the slot? KOC did the same with JJ and Addison. What were the results? They constantly moved the ball/scored and this defense was one of the worst in the league, and the bears looked bad. Ben Johnson was slightly different because Amon Ra lined up everywhere and his line gave Goff time to beat people throwing it to TEs and WRs.

Here's reality. You can't cut Edmunds because you have to eat a ton of dead cap due to the last chunk of guaranteed $$$ (13.4 mil in dead cap per OTC of the 17.7 mil his cap hit is) he's due this year. We can agree giving him big bucks was a mistake, but that's long ago compared to where we are now, and I don't exactly see a lot of teams volunteering to trade and take him off Poles' hands.

It makes zero sense to cut Edwards. So other than depth, I don't understand how off-ball LB is a need with one of the early draft picks. I'm good to take a mid-late guy as a ST this year then in mix to see if he can play in subsequent years. You don't need a starter this year.

On top of all of that, this is a top-heavy trenches draft and if we're to believe that the bears will be much more improved, their record will be better and they won't be picking in the top 10 (even if its 10). Even if the bears get to 8-9/9-8, they're picking 16 or beyond, and in the near future/year or two you aren't getting bites of the apple in the future based on what is coming through the college pipelines compared to now. You have 3 picks in the top 41, and not a single one needs to be on an off-ball LB. At 72 if someone is there that shouldn't be, that's a different story.
