With every new staff comes a new set of eyes and ideas when it comes to filling out the roster. I am hoping that Johnson and his staff bring some better talent evaluation to the table because Poles needs better voices in the room when it comes to adding and subtracting players from this roster. Make no mistake Brian Johnson chose to be here. I don’t know if that means Poles was extended or not but I hope he wasn’t. I hope that he is given the year to work with Johnson and they work well together extend him to marry them up. If not Johnson gets influence on the next hire. It cannot be Poles landed Johnson and now gets a clean slate.
We all know the level of dysfunction and incompetence within this organization so I would love to know Johnson's thinking. Maybe working with Caleb was enough of a lure, or maybe it was that plus big market, or maybe as you suggest Rob he gets more of a say on roster decisions than Flus had. We may never know but hopefully he knows what he's getting himself into.
Exactly smack dab where I am, because this is after all the Bears. Now that he took their offer makes me question how smart can he actually be. Obviously, Ev is ecstatic because if it was a McCarthy hire, he was out, but then who would we have to replace the discussion of the culinary possibilities of Haggis? bigrob? Even he's not that optimistic. The Bears may appear to have gotten the flavor of the month this cycle, but we all know the past flavors have been ass, so what makes this hiring any different? I have less than zero confidence in this organization and with Poles GM. They have to prove it before I come off that mark.
Oh man tuna, you're such a good writer! I'm laughing so hard! "Obviously, Ev is ecstatic because if it was a McCarthy hire, he was out, but then who would we have to replace the discussion of the culinary possibilities of Haggis? bigrob? Even he's not that optimistic."
There are some rumors that he asked for an assurance that McCaskey and Warren would stay out of football ops and let him work with Poles only. That has to come with some sort of roster input, I would imagine. Some verbiage that allows him to veto a move or have influence over what Poles does. I would think.
He isn't from the CFL. He didn't hold Andy Reids sandwich while Reid called plays. He has a normal last name.
HEY! You wash out your filthy whore mouth sir. Haggis is one of the greatest contributions to world cuisine including the entire globe AND all of planet earth. And its Burns Night this weekend so there's about to be a lot of it eaten. I mean a Burns supper featuring haggis, neeps, tatties and with a sauce made of whiskey, how can that be bettered. Getting the Scotch into the dinner is peak human evolution as far as im concerned.
Surprising i know, but actually not this time. He's referring to the time about 10-12years ago when the Bears HC hire was a HC from the CFL. Out the box indeed and a complete disaster. Thats what bww is talking about.
Everybody is a comedian on this board. You just wait us Canadians will have the last laugh and probably the last apology.
I heard those rumors, and the reason I choose to believe it is because this was rumored prior to his hire that where-ever he went, he wanted some roster say. The Jags were his leading landing spot right up until they decided to keep Baalke. And it also means he's not an idiot to not want those two fucking around in his decisions. And if Warren and George actually STICK to that promise, could be a good thing. Like Tuna, I have to question his judgement a bit by choosing to come here, but that guarantee plus the Brinks truck they rolled out for him is enough reason. The fact that he's already all over his coaching hires is a good sign as well, he has a plan. The real question is can he turn the ship around, and that remains to be seen. Plus it likely means he actually believes in Caleb, but then I remember Nagy's eventual revelation that he was in fact an idiot and didn't like Trubs when he came here. Of the options though, he was the consensus top pick. There may be some growing pains for him, but hopefully in year 3 we aren't wondering what wonderful new way he can find to lose games like Eberflus.
