Daniel Jones is no longer a member of the Giants.

The Giants announced on Friday morning that they have released Jones. Jones said on Thursday that he was “still processing” being benched and dropped to No. 4 on the depth chart earlier this week and team owner John Mara said that Jones requested that the Giants let him go on Friday.

“Daniel came to see me this morning and asked if we would release him,” Mara said in a statement. “We mutually agreed that would be best for him and for the team. Daniel has been a great representative of our organization, first class in every way. His handling of this situation yesterday exemplifies just that. We are all disappointed in how things have worked out. We hold Daniel in high regard and have a great appreciation for him. We wish him nothing but the best in the future.”

Jones was buried on the depth chart because the Giants did not want to risk an injury that would trigger a $23 million guarantee on his contract for next season. Jones said that there had been some conversations between the team and his agent about that clause in the wake of his benching, but it will be a moot point for the Giants now.

With the trade deadline behind us, all players are subject to waivers when let go by their teams. Any team claiming Jones would also claim that guarantee, so it’s a good bet that he’ll be a free agent next week.

49ers QB Brandon Allen calls first start since 2021 “an opportunity to go out and play well”

Brock Purdy will travel with the 49ers, but soreness in his right shoulder will keep him from playing in Sunday’s game against the Packers.

Instead, Brandon Allen will make his first start since the final week of the 2021 season.

“It’s an opportunity,” Allen told reporters Friday, via David Bonilla of 49erswebzone.com. “The circumstances are what they are, but I think our team, all year long, we’ve been kind of dealing with injuries here and there, and it’s been a big next-man-up mentality.

“So, it’s definitely an opportunity for me to go out and play well and put our guys in a good position to win the game. And obviously, we want Brock back and healthy and all that, but for the time being, it is an opportunity for me.”

Allen, 32, was the third-string quarterback last season after originally signing with the 49ers. When Sam Darnold left for the Vikings, the 49ers signed Joshua Dobbs.

Allen beat out Dobbs for the backup job.
“I feel very comfortable in the offense,” Allen said. “Definitely, going back to last year, and then all through this year, just being in the system, calling the plays, seeing them play out, all that. So, I definitely feel comfortable in this offense.”

Allen has made only nine starts in his career, going 2-7, and he has played only 16 games. He has thrown three passes the past three seasons.

Allen said he never questioned whether he’d ever get another chance to start.

“For me, it’s my opportunity now, so I’ll take advantage of it now,” Allen said. “But those things really don’t cross your mind, how long you’re going to play and all that. There’s definitely guys older than me still playing, so that usually doesn’t come across my mind.”

A writer at the 'Athletic' claims Rodgers wants to play in 2025, just not with the Jets.

Maybe Rodgers should sign with the Giants and the jets should sign Daniel Jones... see, Im a problem solver.

    Just a tid-bit of info...

If Daniel Jones isnt claimed by, 4PM ET, Monday, he is a Free Agent.

Via Adam Schefter of ESPN.com, Jones wants to finish the season with a playoff contender. As noted here (PFT) earlier today, Jones would be an upgrade at the No. 2 position on the depth chart for most of the current playoff contenders.

I'm hoping the Bucs sign him for next to nothing. I'd like to have the first crack at signing him in the offseason for a multiyear deal that gives him a chance to learn behind Baker.

Gardner Minshew out for season, Raiders unsure whether Aidan O’Connell can return Friday

Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew will miss the rest of the season after suffering a broken collarbone on Sunday. Who will start for the Raiders on Friday against the Chiefs remains to be seen.

Las Vegas head coach Antonio Pierce said today that Aidan O’Connell, who is currently on injured reserve with a thumb injury, could be cleared to return by Friday. Pierce said the Raiders will need to see how well O’Connell can grip the ball before deciding whether he can play in the Black Friday game.

If O’Connell can’t go, that would leave Desmond Ridder as the only option to start against the Chiefs. Ridder came in after Minshew was injured in the fourth quarter on Sunday.

The Raiders have quarterback Carter Bradley on their practice squad, and he could be elevated to the active roster.

Jets not planning to shut down Aaron Rodgers yet despite injuries, will start vs. Seahawks

Aaron Rodgers, at least for now, is still the New York Jets’ starting quarterback.

Rodgers, despite the Jets’ struggles and his apparent injuries in recent weeks, will "absolutely" be the team’s starting quarterback on Sunday in their game against the Seattle Seahawks. Jets interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said Monday that Rodgers is the healthiest he’s been in the past month coming off their bye week, and the team isn’t yet considering shutting him down for the rest of the season.

Ulbrich also denied knowing anything about reports that Rodgers has been resisting medical scans offered by the Jets. The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported earlier this week that Rodgers didn’t want to “reveal the severity of his injuries out of fear of having to come off the field,” which is why he apparently has denied the medical scans.

While Ulbrich didn’t say the report was inaccurate, he insisted he knew nothing about it.

"News to me," Ulbrich said, via ESPN's Rich Cimini.

This season has not gone well for Rodgers or the Jets, who are now committed to a full rebuild after firing both their head coach and general manager. The Jets sit at just 3-8 headed into Sunday’s game, and they’ve lost seven of their last eight. Rodgers has thrown for 2,442 yards with 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions this season, his first full one with the Jets after he went down with an Achilles injury just four plays into his first game with the organization last season.

Never thought I’d see or hear that statement!! Been a Baker fan since day one, but not many people thought he would work out. Glad to see him living up to potential.

Apparently, someone lied or falsified something, because why would the reporter at the 'Athletic' say this and then Rodgers says this... you cant trust anybody these days, especially when dealing with Rodgers or a pay per report site like the Athletic.

"As far as my future goes, I haven't told anybody in my life that I wanna play in 2025 [but not for] the Jets," Rodgers said on "The Pat McAfee Show." "That's 100% false. ... I'm gonna wait and see what happens at the end of the season, if they want me back. ... I've really enjoyed my time in New York. ... I've made some great friendships with the team, and I've enjoyed living in Jersey. So I'm not jumping off ship.

"I don't even know if I wanna play yet, but New York would be my first option," Rodgers continued. "When you're 40, going on 41, you're obviously at the end of your career. ... If it's New York, they have to want me to be here. And then the new GM, the new staff, they'll all have to want me to be with the Jets. And then, body-wise, I have to see how I'm feeling. ... I think, at this point, I'm open to everything and attached to nothing. ... A lot can change ... but playing in New York would obviously be my first choice, if I wanted to play."
