June 1 (UPI) -- Mike Tyson's fight has been postponed less than one week after the former heavyweight champion experienced a medical emergency on a flight that involved paramedics. Tyson, 54, underwent a checkup after the incident Sunday on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles. "During a follow up consultation on Thursday with medical professionals on his recent ulcer flare up, the recommendation is for Mike Tyson to do minimal to light training over the next few weeks and then return to full training with no limitations," read a statement from Most Valuable Promotions, the fight promoter. "Both Mike and Jake are in agreement that it is only fair to ensure that both athletes have equal training time to prepare for this important match and are able to compete at the highest level. The health and well-being of athletes is our top priority, and we fully support Mike in taking the necessary time to allow him to perform at the level he expects of himself." The fight was scheduled for July 20 was to be aired on Netflix, with Paul, age 27, from, AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. "The fight will be rescheduled for a date later this year after Mike's able to resume training with no limitations and both fighters can have equal time to prepare for this once-in-a-lifetime matchup!Stay tuned for the new fight date to be announced by the end of next week.
I did not realize we had a Boxing thread, my bad. I posted some previous stuff about this fight on News & Notes, but from here on out I'll be right here. I hope this bout gets rescheduled soon... I think this will be very entertaining.
Jake Paul-Mike Tyson fight rescheduled for November after boxing legend's medical scare forces postponement The bout will take place on Nov. 15 at the Cowboys' stadium The heavily anticipated fight between boxing legend Mike Tyson and YouTuber-turned professional boxer Jake Paul is back on after Tyson’s medical scare on a recent flight caused the bout to be postponed. Most Valuable Promotions announced on Friday that the fight, which was originally set to take place on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, has now been rescheduled for November 15th to give both boxers enough time to prepare. "Our team has worked diligently with all parties involved to reschedule this monumental fight to a date that ensures both Jake Paul and Mike Tyson are fully prepared, with equal training time, as well as allowing us to keep the event at AT&T stadium in the midst of the Cowboys season," Nakisa Bidarian, Co-Founder of Most Valuable Promotions, said in a statement. "Paul vs. Tyson is the most cross generational sporting event in history, and we are committed to providing fans worldwide with this unforgettable night of boxing, live globally on Netflix. We look forward to seeing everyone on Friday, November 15 for a showdown that will be talked about for generations to come." Tyson, who will turn 58 at the end of June, was on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles last month when he was reported to have suffered nausea and dizziness. His reps said in a statement at the time that the incident had been "due to an ulcer flare up 30 minutes before landing." The medical episode raised concern for Tyson and led to speculation that the fight would be called off. Last week, Most Valuable Promotions announced that the fight would be postponed following Tyson’s follow-up consultation with medical professionals. He was advised to do "minimal to light training over the next few weeks and then return to full training with no limitations." "Although we had to postpone the fight, I will resume training shortly. I am thankful to the medical staff that treated me and to MVP, Netflix, and AT&T Stadium for working diligently to find the best reschedule date for all parties," Tyson said in a statement Friday. "While we have a new date, the result will be the same no matter when we fight. Jake Paul is getting knocked out. On Friday, November 15, watch this in-person at AT&T Stadium or live on Netflix." Paul responded to the news on X with a simple message, "New date, same place, same fate." Paul has a 9-1 record, with six knockouts during his pro career. He was defeated by Tommy Fury in a split decision in 2023. Tyson has not fought competitively since his TKO loss to Kevin McBride in 2005. He competed in an exhibition match with Roy Jones Jr. in July 2020. FOX _________ _________________ So, who do you have in this one? What do you expect to see?
Well, 60 Million tuned into a lack-luster fight with crappy video. There ought to be about 60 million refunds.
Might be the most arrogant thing I will ever post on these boards... I could have gone eight 2-minute rounds with that version of Mike Tyson and probably had a similar outcome, and I'm real fucking confident in saying that. That was the least impressed I have been with Jake, and outside of the starting rounds, all he needed to do was avoid an immobile Tyson and pick some shots to win on the cards. For as physically imposing as Mike looked for his age, he simply did not have enough gas in the tank, and this fight should likely have been cancelled after his medial issue on the plane.
Tell you what. It's not arrogant... its fact. I believe you. Back in the day which was eons ago Tyson ruled the square, now he needs to watch on TV. That whole thing gave boxing a black eye (cheapest pun intended ever). The production, the fighters all left way too much to be desired.
I don't think your post was arrogant........you have told us before how much time you spend in the Gym. To me the fight of the night was Taylor vs Serrano and Amanda Serrano should have won that fight ....Katie Taylor was dirty with the head butts and should have been DNF but it was a good Boxing Match.
