I’m not jazzed about the Mike Williams trade but a little shocked about the Preston Smith one. You think he’ll be playing more DL than OLB? I guess we won’t be picking on Day 3. We better pick some real good talent in the first 3 rounds.
Both are good deals that are inexpensive. Williams is pretty much healthy at this point, as is Smith. Good veteran leaders who won’t cause problems. A healthy Williams really opens up the passing game for everyone else. Austin can stay in the slot permanently and potentially feast versus mismatches. Both guys are also on the final year of their deals, but the win now mentality for cheap is what makes these nice trades. Also, the Steelers have done a fantastic job the last couple of seasons finding UDFA, so the late picks are expendable.
I think he is versatile enough and not a liability in run support. Adding more pass rush depth was important, we lost that game vs. Dallas when Herbig went down.
