A reminder that 7 points were declined / missed by the Bears. Two field goals (one missed, one refused for a bad 4th down playcall), and an extra point (went for two on a bad playcall).
This was a bad DL we faced today, the OL still gave up 4 sacks, 6 QB hits and god knows how many pressures. But ultimately blang said what we all knew at the start. If they could'nt run the ball they would lose. They couldn't run the ball, and they lost.
Game over. Another loss that will go round and round in the same circles before resulting in the same shitshow next week. Dope. I've got a great afternoon planned with the family, and hockey season starts soon. Gonna focus on that. Much love, y'all. Eager to talk about the film from this one with you all next week.
Later this season we are gonna get our shit pushed in by some real NFL teams and lose games by 3+ scores. Losses like the last two just lead the front office to the delusion we are close.
That's the worst because then they'll all be self righteous about the decisions and choices they've made so far.
Yeah buddy! My son scored a goal his preseason game yesterday, looking forward to watching him cook this year, he's really starting to understand spacing and team play, setting up some of the other kids. They moved him to center and he gets to "lead" his line, and thus far they look like they are going to dominate, heh. Then I have the local Seattle T-birds which is always a great time, and then the Kraken (I hate to say it, but the Kraken have taken the #1 spot for me as my son getting into hockey the past few years just lines up with this new team......the 'Hawks pissed me off with the way they handled that abuse stuff too, but I do like Bedard and the future is......bright-ish?) So plenty to look forward too, even if it's not football. I'll leave my thoughts on THIS game in the other thread heh.
So plenty to look forward too, even if it's not football. Well said Varder.............Western Hockey has just kicked-off and Thunder Birds will be a good team 24/25 but watch for the Winterhawks....I go to see as many games as I can to see the Future NHLers and it's Great Hockey. This morning on NFL today Bill Cowher was asked "if you could get back to coaching which team would you choose" He said the Chicago Bears because he thinks this team is up and coming and he likes Chicago. That would be interesting for ownership to go after him......he is 67
Finally watched the game. The turnovers hurt but it isn’t every season you see a Chicago Bears QB throw for 350+ and multiple TD passes. The loss stung but the way things are shaking up around the NFL who the fuck knows what’s going on week to week. Have to agree with everyone here. The coaching just isn’t cutting it. You finally start running north south and you let that front 7 push you around? Pathetic. And what the fuck is up with Waldron and calling a second down play. I mean we would be in a better spot if we just kneeled down every second down and went right to third. Flus is a decent DC. If I was a fan of whatever team hires him next season I would be good with him as my DC. He isn’t a head coach. Sucks at time management. Can’t win a challenge to save his life. Doesn’t even have it in him to yell at a ref every once in a while. He is as soft as Swift who gets tackled regularly by the other team yelling boo at him. Dont know where this season is going from here. Just gonna pray each week that they don’t totally fuck up Caleb Williams. Sucks cause this team has some pieces. Pieces a good coaching staff could do something with.
PORTLAND SUCKS. I love the rivalry between Seattle and Portland, and Seattle and Everett. Last year was a definite down year for the T-birds after they won the WHL that previous year and the roster was gutted by the NHL draft heh. Should be some good hockey this year.
varder..........I'm really liking the Canucks and Kraken rivalry..........and the Seattle Kraken have an Excellent Logo.....you have to love that Red Eye in the Monster. It is such and easy ride down to Seattle on the I-5 and I try and get tickets for the Kraken on Sat and then the Seahawks on a Sunday....my Favourite Pub (Tavern) in Seattle is the Triangle and I'm sure if it is still standing because of the tunnel ? And BTW in case you forgot the Seahawks are 3--0.......Jezz I did not see that coming.
Just paid the $5 for the JT O'Sullivan film breakdown. Still less than paying for the All-22 through the NFL, and I don't have to put in the work to rewind myself, to replay different aspects of each play. 2 hour video. Will let y'all know what comes up, especially on some of those plays that got called out unanimously in chat.
Work got really busy, so I'm only 10 minutes in, but... holy fuck, the offensive line. I'm not going to harp on it, because we all see it all the time, but... this is not an NFL offensive line. This is not an offensive line that's serious about football, and they're not being coached by someone that's serious about football. That's all I can say.
Also, Kmet and Odunze doing work blocking the run. I know that Kmet had some visible fuckups pass blocking, but when he's going after the defender, he's doing his job.
Yeah the Canucks travel well down to Climate Pledge, and they have a long established team while the Kraken are new. Honestly the Flames/Kraken rivalry is one I'm enjoying, because there's some real hate behind it rather than just geographically close. It's funny, all my son's coaches are fans of the Habs or Bruins, etc, no Canucks, and they are all sort of lukewarm/warming up to the Kraken. Don't worry, my neighbors are not only reminding me about the Seahawks, they are also now telling me how they knew all along Waldron was ass.
Work was crazy yesterday, so finally getting around to watching more this morning. On the Caleb Williams INT late to the flat, which is one I really wanted to see: First, Caleb goes through the right reads, but his footwork makes him late to the throw. Each time he adjusts to the next read, there's additional movement from the feet which causes him to eventually be late to the throw to the flat. So, this INT is on him, for sure, and it's a concern. Part of his skillset coming into the league was that those calm, quick, set feet through adjustments were one of the things he did really well, when he played within structure on a play. THAT BEING SAID, where the fuck was he supposed to go with the ball on this play? All three reads are static routes (he's never working his way back across the field to the fourth read on the backside, both because of time and design, so he's getting three reads and either the ball needs to be out or he needs to go. Just my opinion, there), and the third read throw to the flat is not going to get them a first down. It's just bad. You're not scheming anyone open - hell, you're scheming them covered. Blocking on the play was bad, but good enough for him to get the ball out on time. Hell, good enough for him to get the ball out late. Credit to them when they allow for a ball to come out on time, because they don't do that very often. General comments on the rest of what I've seen up to this point (that INT was in the mid-ish 2nd quarter, if I remember right): Blocking is laughably bad, but when Indy was only sending 4 and the Bears were keeping an extra blocker (sometimes 2) in, they gave Caleb the time and space to throw. But that means that they were blocking 4 with 6 and sometimes 7 guys. That's what they have to do, in order to make it work. That's... not good. Honestly, the DC in Indy isn't gonna keep their job very long, since they were making the decision not to send pressure against a line that clearly couldn't stop it. You stopped the Bears offense for the most part, sure, but it's the Bears. On the big throw to Rome in the second quarter, down the left sideline for a completion, a lot of things went right. Double teams from Teven and Shelton block their man, Pryor and Wright block their man, and then Marcedes Lewis basically blocked a guy on his own while #11 was supposed to help but didn't do much. Jones, to his credit, was the only guy who successfully blocked his man 1 on 1. That gave time for the wheel route to Rome to develop, and it was a great throw and catch. Well drawn up play with motion into the wheel to give your man winning leverage and space to run, time to throw from the OL, and a perfect throw by Caleb. The problem is, basically none of those things go right on just about any other play. Static routes and cutesy playcalling for no reason mean that Caleb is often given no one to throw to by the time a defender is in his face, and a defender is in his face very soon because the OL sucks. I was going to make the allegation that Jenkins was having such a rough year because he's got to make up for the poor play from Shelton, but... boy, he's looked bad. The lone bright spot on the line he is not, anymore. The toss plays aren't working because WR's are being asked to block Dlinemen. So you get three yards because you can block most but not all of it, and the horizontal nature of the play means that all that space and running east-west gets you at most three yards. On both a toss and a pass play, they had Rome blocking the DE from a bunch-ish formation, and both times it blew up the play. Now, I do want Rome to be a proficient blocker, but asking your rookie WR to block the DE when LITERALLY ANYONE ELSE CAN DO THAT is fucking puzzling. And lastly, give the ball to Herbert more, please. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk. I'm an hour into the film, so will report on the rest of it later.
HOLY FUCK. Guys. Guys... guys. Please look at this screen grab, and tell me what you think #79 did here. Because I'll tell you right now, he never touched anyone. And if I had paused this screen grab sooner, I could've shown that the defender was even closer to #79 than this. I mean, they were within kissing distance. And #79 lets him go right past, turns to his right to see where the other LB is, and then just kind of stops because he knows now he's not going to block anyone. I mean, I've never seen OL play this bad this often at the NFL level. I'm not exaggerating when I say that this is high school level stuff. Even colleges get their shit right more often than not. This is a bad high school team where you hope someone makes a play / the defense fucks up just as much, because you know your OL will always have a mental lapse or two on a play. That is the Bears' OL. Holy fuck.
