Cisco's franchise tag will cost a total of $7,700,000.

The top 3 DB contracts from 2023 are all $7,000,000, so the average is $7,000,000, 10% of which is $700,000.

Are extensions allowed for players with multiple years remaining on their contract?

 

Yes, BUT…it’s not an “extension”. It Replaces whatever their current deal is.

So if you have a guy with 1-2 years remaining, you’re welcome to place a 3 year deal on him.

But 1 year remaining does not become a 4 year deal. It’s 3 years under the new price tag.

It's an extension in this format, as in you are 'extending' the ability to retain the player (players with no years left can be retained).

I know that it's kind of a semantics thing, but it is definitionally accurate.

From the extension rules:
Owners will have the opportunity to extend a set number of players at the end of the season, at a percentage increase to the original contract. That percentage will be determined by the original contract, the original contract length, position, and the age of the player. This extension is a modification of the contract and replaces the original terms with the new deal. It does not add years but replaces the current deal with the new length and new money.

Contract Extensions:
2 - 3yr extensions
4 - 2yr extensions

Age 20-29 players have a percentage increase of 20% of most recent contract
Age 30-retirement players have an increase of 15% of most recent contract
Age is applied at the time the extension is tendered
Additional percentage increase by position:
QB - 7%
RB - 2%
WR - 5%
TE - 2%
K - 3%
DL/EDGE - 5%
LB - 2%
DB - 4%
Any hybrid player will have a percentage jump according to position of highest increase


Contracts may be extended starting in the first year of any deal, are available throughout the life of the deal and in the immediate offseason of an expired contract


Owners will have one non-exclusive franchise tag that can be used each offseason, up to 3 times on any one player

Non-exclusive tag rules
1st year - The average of the top 3 paid players at his position plus 10% of the average*
2nd year - The average of the top 3 paid players at his position plus 20% of the average*
3rd year - The average of the top 3 paid players at his position plus 45% of the average*
*based on the previous season's top 3 earners at said position


Any owner may make an offer during the franchise tag window that will happen in the week prior to the first week of free agency. If the original owner declines to match, the tagged player will be signed to the highest bidding sheet available, and the original owner will receive the next two first round picks from the team signing the tagged player. No team that does not hold two consecutive first round picks, or two first round picks in the next available draft will be able to extend an offer to a franchise tagged player.

 

Obviously still good with this haha, but when I read the rules about 3 times before making my calculations, I was sure that I calculated it correctly. It's the "player cost" that got me.
