Danielle Hunter takes NFL lead with ninth sack of the season on Monday night When Vikings defensive end Danielle Hunter took down 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy on Monday night, it was Hunter’s ninth sack of the season — the most in the NFL. Amid some talk that Hunter could be traded before next week’s deadline, Hunter is showing that he’s one of the league’s truly elite pass rushers, and that he should command a high price in a trade. But he’s also showing that if the 3-4 Vikings have playoff hopes, they should hold onto him. Monday night’s sack was the 80th of Hunter’s NFL career, which moved him ahead of Everson Griffen for seventh all-time in Vikings history. Hunter leads T.J. Watt, who is second in the NFL with eight sacks this season, and Myles Garrett, who is third with 7.5. At his current pace, Hunter would rack up 22 sacks in a 17-game season, and if his play gets the Vikings back into the playoff race, he’s going to get some Defensive Player of the Year consideration. Marvin Jones announces he's stepping away from Lions; WR later released by team Detroit Lions wide receiver Marvin Jones announced on Tuesday that he was stepping away from the team due to family matters. He subsequently was released by the team, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported. "To be brief, I am stepping away from the team to take care of personal family matters," he wrote in part in an Instagram post. "Although this was no easy decision, I cannot be the person/player that I need to be for this team as well as tend to my family from afar." Jones was inactive for the first time this season in Detroit's Week 7 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. He rejoined the Lions for his 12th NFL season, signing a one-year, $3 million pact this spring. The veteran has seen little production, though, having tallied just five receptions on 10 targets for 35 yards and zero touchdowns. His targets are tied for seventh on the team with injured running back David Montgomery as Amon-Ra St. Brown has continued to emerge as one of the top young wideouts in the league. Rookie tight end Sam LaPorta also has proven to be an instant success, while receivers Kalif Raymond and Josh Reynolds have been surprising contributors and Jameson Williams has returned from suspension. Though Jones did not mention anything regarding a possible retirement, if this is it for the 33-year-old, he turned in quite a productive career after being selected in the fifth round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. He was with the Bengals for four seasons (one on injured reserve), spent the 2021-22 seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars and parts of six seasons with the Lions over two stints, first from 2017-2020 before coming back to Motown this year. For his career, Jones has played in 151 games with 118 starts, recording 547 catches for 7,421 yards and 58 touchdowns. NFL.com
Derrick Brooks reduces Kareem Jackson suspension from four games to two Broncos safety Kareem Jackson has won the appeal of his four-game suspension. Sort of. NFL spokesman Michael Signora has announced that hearing officer Derrick Brooks has reduced Jackson’s suspension from four games to two. Jackson will be eligible to return to the team on Tuesday, November 14. The Broncos host the Chiefs this weekend. In Week 9, they’re on a bye. In Week 10, they visit the Bills on Monday Night Football. Jackson will be eligible to return for Week 11, against the Vikings. Jackson has been fined repeatedly this season for illegal hits. He was ejected from Sunday’s game against the Packers for an illegal helmet-to-helmet hit on Packers tight end Luke Musgrave. The suspension was imposed on Monday. PFT
On Tuesday night, Colts owner Jim Irsay said the league admitted to blown calls late in Sunday’s home loss to the Browns. The next question is whether the NFL will punish Irsay for his candor. Irsay tweeted this...“The NFL admits and understands that they did not make the correct calls at end of Sunday’s Colts/Browns Game,” Indianapolis owner Jim Irsay tweeted on Tuesday night. “I believe we need to institute Instant Replay for all calls, including Penalties, in the last two minutes of All Games.” Per PFT on the referred to messed up calls... He’s presumably referring to an illegal contact foul that wiped out what would have been a fumble that the Colts recovered, which would have iced a 38-33 win, and to a subsequent pass interference penalty that gave the Browns first and goal on the one. The Browns later scored the game-winning touchdown on fourth and goal. The first one was close. As a source with another team opined, far worse contact on receivers goes uncalled on a regular basis, especially late in games. As to the second one, the pass was clearly uncatchable; it landed well out of the end zone. As one of the PFT writers remarked on the text chain through which we constantly communicate, not even Dwight Clark on a ladder could have caught that ball. NFL employee Tom Pelissero tweeted this last night, after Irsay’s message landed: “The NFL communicates with teams on a weekly basis about various calls. Team officials are prohibited from commenting publicly on those discussions. Now, a team owner has publicly said the league admitted to officiating mistakes. Stay tuned …" ______ _______________ Anyway you slice and dice this, Irsay did something he knew was not allowed, what the NFL does about it is another thing. If the League said this and I believe they did, what in hell are they going to do about it? Every game, ever weekend has had its fair share of terrible calls. I dont see a resolution other than instant replay scrutiny during games or this is never going to stop. If the NFL has the potential to make changes and utilize technologies that make the game fair for both teams and everybody involved, what in hell are they waiting for?
A little tid-bit on the AFC Defensive Player of the Week, Myles Garrett... Garrett was a one-man wrecking crew in the Cleveland Browns' 39-38 win over the Indianapolis Colts. He posted nine tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles and, in a one-point win, recorded an awe-inspiring and win-preserving blocked field goal. The Browns Pro Bowler became the only player in the last 30 seasons to tally multiple sacks, multiple forced fumbles and block a field goal in the same game, per NFL Research.
? Frank Clark visiting Seahawks and is expected to sign When the Broncos released Frank Clark this month, there was speculation that Clark would return to a former team to continue his career. That speculation focused on the Chiefs, but it looks like Clark is actually returning to his first NFL home. Josina Anderson of CBS Sports reports that Clark is visiting the Seahawks Wednesday and that he is expected to sign with the team assuming all goes well during the visit. Clark entered the NFL as a Seahawks second-round pick in 2015. He spent four seasons in Seattle and had 136 tackles, 35 sacks, an interception, eight forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries in 62 games for the team. The Seahawks had 11 sacks in a win over the Giants and have 23 across all six games they’ve played so far. They’ll look to Clark to boost that number over the rest of the season. PFT
Brock purdy has entered the leagues concussion protocol. Brock Purdy has landed in the league's protocol after exhibiting concussion-like symptoms following Monday night's loss, head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters on Wednesday. Purdy played throughout the entirety of San Francisco's 22-17 loss to the Vikings, throwing two interceptions and posting the worst performance of his otherwise impressive career. He first started experiencing concussion-like symptoms on the team's flight home, Shanahan explained Wednesday, leading to his placement in the protocol.
Question the world must be ending cause mighty 49ers lost to the Vikings the excuses just won't stop there one of best teams in the NFL so they lost no big deal everyone loses
Any given Sunday. We've seen bigger upsets that this one over the years. I remember the Bills beating the Patriots on opening day. (2005?) That's when the world was supposed to end!!
I realize everyone likes to dunk on these NFL players but is there anyone in here that has never gone 35mph over the speed limit?
I have several times, Ive been caught 3 times costing me $125 bucks a pop (which is WAY better than jail time and I havnt done that in probably 25 years or better). If I get caught the 4th time, Im telling the officer I play for the Minnesota Vikings. While the officer is bent over laughing hysterically, Ill be in the next county before he catches his breath.
35 over the speed limit? That's 70 in a 35, 90 in a 55, and 110 in a 70? No, I don't think I've done that. 80 in a 55 on those highways that randomly change speed limits, sure, but 90?... I don't think so. If you're going 70 in a 35 (as it's alleged he was), you deserve what you get.
I don't recall that but, it's entirely possible. There was a time when the Skins were awful, and the Cowboys ruled the world. I can hear the voice of Cris Burman at ESPN saying, that why they play the game.
I have gone over 100 to pass 10+ cars on a single lane each way rd that I have to use to get out of town more times than is humanly possible to count. I have a hemi challenger and consider it my duty to pass slow drivers. I haven’t done it in the last 7 months or so because I’m stuck driving a caravan because my wife has six toy poodles we have to carry with us.
I actually got it backward it was the cowboys in Jimmy first year as coach they went 1-15 and the 1 was vs a 10-6 Redskins
