We all deserved an enjoyable watch. A little annoying after halftime. Refs tried hard to screw us. I think I just strained something. Holy shit how many injuries can a team bare?

 

RIP to the legendary 51.

Justin Fields Week 5 Analysis - YouTube

 

The above is some quick, curated film review. While it's focused on Fields and the scheme, I want to point to the offensive line. First, Teven Jenkins made a massive difference. In the game thread, we were wondering what changed from half one to half two, protection-wise. I was watching on mute, just trying to look back in time for each play, so I don't know if they said anything about it, but it seems like Teven was out for a drive or two in the third quarter. The difference is noticeable. Not only is Ja'Tyre Carter not as good as Jenkins, but he doesn't help the people around him the way Jenkins does. The whole line is better when Teven is out there.

Also, they were helping Wright out a lot, and it worked. Marcedes Lewis on more than one occasion was an in-line blocker next to him, and Wright didn't even have to block on the play. Lewis was just manhandling people. Would've been nice to give Borom that help on the other side more often, but they were definitely doing more to help the OT's last night than previous games (to my knowledge). Again, something we noticed in the game thread. Not having bodies in Justin's face made a world of difference, as he looked way more comfortable taking downfield shots all night.

Oh, and DJ Moore. Jeezus Christ. Just dominating.

I believe in Dick Butkus, personally too, heh. This team has been garbage all year. I doubt this turns the corner, but we can celebrate the win until next week at least. They were at least playing with fire for once.

My son had his first hockey game this week of the season, they played 2 pre-season games and got whalloped. Apparently the kid who was going to be the star and highest graded was injured between evals and preseason, so he is out indefinitely. Then turns out for this first week the coach's son (now the best player) and our top girl were also out, and happened to be the only two kids who scored in the preseason. My son and his teammates were getting down like they had no shot, etc. and I told him, 1. it's the first game, you have no idea how good or bad the other team is, 2. the preseason didn't matter, you play hard and get better every week and it will pay dividends, and 3. give it your all no matter what and even IF you then lose, at least you left it all on the ice. Then today, come to find one of the defensemen ALSO didn't show up (that kid has a bad attitude), so they only had 3 defensemen including my son so they were all pulling double+ shifts.

They got down 0-1 almost right away on my son giving up a goal. And then they bounced back, showed that heart and came back and won 3-1. Good sports weekend so far. If I can just see the Packers lose tomorrow I'll be all set.

I'm by no means a believer in Eberflus, it took him being down to nobodies in the secondary to dial up the heat, but he did. It was a good game and one to enjoy. Congrats fellas.

 

Yeah, I doubt we have enough HOFers still alive and have to die to make this season respectable.
