Preseason Game 2 recap

Starters didn't play, but I think a lot was learned/made clear from last night. Yes I'm depraved and miss football.

PJ Walker sucked yet again. He can't hit easy passes, he trips over his own feet, and he dances straight into defenders for comically bad sacks. He got outplayed by Peterman and Bagent once again for QB2. Der Flus confirmed after the game QB2 position is not set/wide open. Peterman outplayed Bagent last night so I think he's got the edge. He looked far more complete, whereas Bagent seemed like training wheels were on and he wasn't allowed to throw anything other than a 5 and out/quick slant.

I've seen enough. Roschon Johnson is RB2. He can catch, he can block, he can gash D's between the guards, tackles, and outside. Stop beating him up and figure out who you like for RB3 between Foreman, Homer, and this Burns kid, #45. Announcers called Burns a FB, but he was bouncing off defenders late in the game and had some speed to him. Shame a great 2nd half for him where he had plays gashing/carving up the D was ended by a bad fumble. Until that point he was making the case to make picking the final RBs difficult.

WR 5/6 is going to be interesting. Dante Pettis and Daurice Fountain keep playing their way for 53 man spots. Nsimba Webster looks like he wants the KR/PR job, even though as a WR he's limited. ESB had another painful wide open hit-him-in-the-hands for a 1st and then some field in front of him drop. I didn't see Velus Jones even on the field.

Pretty sure TE is set with Kmet, Mercedes Lewis and Tonyan. But this Carlssen kid #88 is a smart/cerebral kid and can block. I saw 2-3 times the dude IDs a WR improperly set/lined over him while he's on the LOS and he moves to avoid the pre-snap penalty or tells Bagent/Peter Pan who then audibled. Like him for the PS.

Back up OL is going to be weak. Jatyre Carter and Doug Kramer looked competent. Alex Leatherwood did on one play the announcers were determined to be nice to him and shower him with praise on before he was a turnstile on the very next play. Both back up OTs (Borom and whoever #74 is) suck mightily, so the OL is going to need some health.

DLine--still a work in progress. Pickens and Dexter had some plays they popped, and some plays they just disappeared/got blocked. #52 Terrell Lewis would be a nice story given his injuries, and he's the best option right now after Walker/Ngokue for DE depth, because he was the only guy who could get home. Another 7th rounder, this week #63 D'Anthony Jones popped late with some nice run stuffs.

LBs. Tough day to grade. People will point out play Sanborn looked slow or Sewell missed an easy tackle. They played some man and it wasn't fair on plays the front 4 got zero pressure.

DBs. I like Tyrique Stevenson, but we're getting CJGJ 2.0. Dude gets under people's skin, then gets a shit head 15 yard personal foul for unnecessarily throwing someone who ran out of bounds to the ground but he got Kenyon Drake to swing at him to offset said shithead personal foul. Elijah Hicks looks like the back up S, had a couple great plays late in game as a center fielder.

Its especially weird to see someone making plays wearing #36 late in preseason but it not be Deandre Houston-Carson.

Me too man, but man, I want to see *some* of the starters, and this Saturday bullshit is pissing me off. Sunday morning, rock and fucking roll, Sunday/Monday/Thursday night? I can do it. But these preseason games are ALL on fucking saturday, and this one saturday night?

I was able to see a bit of the middle of the game, and I agree with you on Roschon Johnson, he's stood out. Baget did not look bad for what he was as a #3, but the trick with these backup QBs is they all look pretty good against the preseason scrubs, so I don't know how much to really take away from it.

I'm hoping we can at least see Justin for a quarter or two come this Saturday.

    Great writeup pat.

Dude is totally another CGJ, and gotta be honest i don't much like it. Im never a big fan of guys like that, but i can live with it if they can play. But thats the thing about having a game like Stevenson's, you put yourself in the spotlight so you'd better be able to get the job done. The little i've seen I have been very unimpressed. The PF he gave up was just dumb as fuck. The in-game analyst said he lost his bearings, fucking bullshit! That throwdown was way OB and Stevenson will have known that it was just a late cheap shot. In real games those 15yarders can kill you.

The non play in the endzone was even worse. That should be a pick ran out the EZ 9 out of 10 times. The other 1 it should at least be broken up. To let it go straight thru your hands for a TD is just horrible.

Word is he's been showing out strong throughout camp so you like to think there's something there. It will be interesting to start seeing him play in play out when the regular season starts. He made some plays PS1 against the Titans, but that Colts game there were some legit horrible moments.
