Let's be real, the Bears came into this off-season with the most draft capital AND the most cap space of any team. The tear down was complete. The rebuild needs to start. If Poles doesn't walk out of this season with what seem to be the makings of a competitive team, we will know who he is. If this team doesn't have key foundational pieces on both trenches by the end of the year, we will know who he is. And we'll have serious problems. I like the off-season signings - I don't think he blew his load on anyone that can't be a key piece now and later - but they don't have enough draft capital to solve the problems on both lines, and that deeply concerns me.
Are there any other Sports on this thread ???....it is Called Live4Sports. Seems to be NFL-NFL-NFL every post....don't get me wrong there is NOTHING wrong with that. But the NFL is in the Off-Season and there are several other Sports to chat about....March Madness...NHL...NBA...to name a few. D-Line your Panthers beat the Leaf's tonight...........YAHOO Buckaroo....and they are looking good for Playoff's . Not sure if you and your wife have moved yet ???.....but will you consider Cheering for the Minnesota Wild in the West ? Very good Hockey Team and just think if your Panthers meet the Wild for Lord Stanley's Grail .
Reported for spamming. And off topic non-Bears talk in a Bears forum. And improper spelling in a user name.
I'm starting to feel that 2 of our first 3 picks need to be OL. Not gonna happen but given Poles lack of major OL signings I don't see how it can be handled any other way. This is literally a thread to discuss the Bears offseason pre-draft, posted to the Bears board. I had to read your post like 3 times to be sure you weren't being sarcastic. Plenty of other forums to discuss other sports.
I'm watching Paris Johnson Jr tape, and I just keep going back to what Pat said earlier in the thread - there are A LOT of "holding-ish" plays from him. We know the Packers get away with that stuff, but will he? The way Poles seems to draft off physical profile, I'm betting he's the pick, whether I agree with it or not.
So the bears have made more roster moves when it comes to back up QB (cut Simien, sign PJ Walker, sign Peterman) than they have OL total moves (2, non-tendering Mustifer and signing Jones) and equal with the DL (cut bumar Mohammed, sign the Vegas/Tennessee DL). Is the QB room that much better? I'm not trying to make Trevor Simien something he's not, but at 1.8 mil I'm not sure why he had to go for a 5'10 gadget QB who looked fun in the XFL or Arena or AFL or whatever spring league nobody watched who now makes more than Simien. If you want to argue Walker and Moore having a semi connection in Carolina, fine--but I'd then submit why did Carolina say 'bye' and show Walker the door in a QB room that included Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield, neither of which are on Carolina today? If this is some Ryan Pace level smoke and mirrors the way Pace fell in love and kept hush about how Mitch was his guy all along, then I'm especially not feeling good about Ryan Poles as a GM. No fucking clue what his priorities are, because what he's saying and what he's doing aren't one in the same. My bets on Van Ness or Bijan Robinson. The bears are one of the stupid teams that would take a RB in the first round in 2023, and I will hate it and never agree with it. I think Poles tries to save face and get fancy round 2 or 3, where he'll draft a tackle and move him to guard or draft a Guard and move him to C or T. LOL its like you just want the abuse... Fuck off and go post on the March Madness, NHL, and NBA boards to your heart's content while we talk about the bears. You tell those basketball/hockey board posters how to root for their teams!
Simien was a perfectly fine backup who also has more experience than many others. Let's face it, Fields hasn't made it through either of his first 2 seasons healthy. If the o-line or QB-run-heavy play calling don't change, he's not going to play a full season in 2023. We need a good backup. Preferably an egoless veteran with experience. Actually Andy Dalton would've been a good fit if he would've wanted to come back for a cheap price. But with Walker and Peterman filling out the room, we've now downgraded the position and essentially have no Plan B if things don't work out with Fields health.
I don't get this either. I agree, but no way he takes a RB there, and the only thing Van Ness has going for him was being a local kid which Poles seems to be gravitating to for some reason. If Keion White is there and he's looking for an edge, he has more upside. So what's the problem other than forgetting to take your meds today?
Near the top of the page it says "Home>Forums>NFL>Chicago Bears" Click on Forums, choose something NOT under the NFL section. Problem solved. You're welcome.
I've been noticeably absent lately because I don't understand any of this but I just wanted to pop on to acknowledge that you guys are still, simply, the best.
My bets are Van Ness also, or Tyree Wilson. Or if he is still there at #9 i genuinely think there is a moderate to high chance Poles takes Jalen Carter. I mean he should be having precisely nothing to do with the dumbass, but there you go. Must admit, there is a twisted fascination to see Poles put in that spot. Sadly OT will be way down the list same as it ever was.
I think Pat and Ev calling Van Ness may just be right. We know that they have no one at DT - literally almost zero bodies - and that Poles and Eberflus have been hot and heavy on acquiring defensive talent with both cap space and draft capital. There really aren't many 3tech prospects in the draft, let alone guys that you feel good about starting year one. If they don't draft Jalen Carter, they may be looking at converting an edge rusher, and Van Ness has both experience inside and a game that probably translates better than others. I wouldn't be surprised if they've got him penciled in as a 3tech convert because that's more important to them than the OL, and they are fine running it back with Braxton Jones and a camp cut at RT. I'm trying not to be cynical, but Poles is definitely giving me the room to. We'll see how draft day goes.
What I want to know is what happened to the plethora of DL help we were going to get in FA, so we could draft Skoronski at #9. Even Paris Johnson I'd be ok with, as it would be a first round OT. It's been almost 10 years since we last did that, and we picked Kyle Long, who ended up as a rock (at Guard, but still). All I wanted this offseason were trenches, and instead we are building from the outside in. Not that these pickups have been bad or anything, but a rebuilding team needs the trenches first. Honestly, if #9 ISN'T OL/DL I will lose my mind, we all but ignored it in FA, so if we end up picking another LB or an RB or something that really is going to light me up. RB especially because there are mocks without an RB going in all of the first round.
Yeah, there might be some elite talent at CB there for them, but at some point you have to invest in the trenches. The good teams do. If that's not what the majority of meaningful draft capital goes towards, I will be also be very, very pissed. It's pretty simple.
