I like Herbert, but Monty is still better, injury or no. I'd rather have had this taken care of before now, as his price would never have been lower.

I'm not a big fan of letting talent walk, especially with so many other holes to fill. Assuming the price is right of course, but I have heard nothing about Monty demanding some ridiculous contract. A fair deal and we should keep Monty, if anything, I think not getting the deal done means Poles isn't sold on him and is ready to just let him walk, period. Which is the wrong move, IMO.

So Poles finally makes a move, he extends fullback Kari Blasengame 2 years.

I like him very much, but one thing sticking out to me with this kid is his ability to play at a crazy foods level for short bursts. There’ll be plays on tape he’s wrecking shit like Aaron Donald, then he’ll be out 2-3 plays before he’s back in. Some plays he is invisible, but due to the opposing offense going away from him, with a handful of plays where I see him just not be in a play near him or a G/OT combo takes him out of a play.

The hot new take with him is questions about size and mass versus the run. Assuming he’s the predominant 3T, I think this take is null/void. It’s the 3 techs job to live in the B gap, no matter if it’s the G, OT, or both trying to stop him. Lots of people like to attach ‘pass rusher’ or ‘run stopper’ to a guy, but I’m the pretentious idiot who calls him and Donald disruptor, not necessarily pass rusher specialist. Own the B gap and be in the backfield the. Read run/pass if the ball is still with the qb or transitioning to a run.

I don’t want to compare him to a former Clemson player, but I can’t help but consider raiders bust Clellin Farrel a few years back. Built like Murphy. Has plenty of great tape like Murphy, but just couldn’t stick and be the top 10 guy Oakland took him.

Then you look at why Ferrell was a bust, and like Murphy—he comes from an elite front 4 unit that feasted on a lot of teams. Farrell had Christin Wilkins and Dexter Lawrence and Austin Bryant, two of the latter 3 also taken in the 1st round. Murphy has Bryan Breese, a guy who should be top 10 before his injury, along with Ruke Ohorhoro (think he’s staying another year but he’ll probably be a top 50 guy unless he gets preinjured or beats his woman) and KJ Swift, a guy who’s probably a mid rounder.

Like Farrell, the gamble you’ll have to take is whether or not he’s a product of a great unit and if he can transcend that.

I like Tyree Wilson more than Murphy. Taller, longer, has the weight/speed/power you’d want, he’s just coming off a foot injury and is still nursing it. But Texas Tech, not really know for their defenses, had opponents game plan specifically for Wilson when he was on. Teams didn’t always do that to Murphy.

Could not disagree more. First off what is a fair deal? The tag is $10 mill. That is obviously off the table. So what do you want to pay him? $5 mill a year? I could live with that. I highly doubt David signs that contract before testing the market. IMO extending Montgomery pre FA almost guarantees over paying. We all know the history of RB second contracts. Maybe you don’t like Herbert but he is definitely good enough to gamble losing Monty vs overpaying him.

Watched Tyree Wilson's NC St tape from this season. I need to see more, but my impressions:

Immediate concern over his role in Chicago's defense. He was much better rushing from a standing position than with his hand down.

Pros: Size and strength. He dictates engagements with OL, getting his hands on them inside and first, and using leverage from there to attack the pocket. Shows good speed to power conversion on outside to inside rushes, and has long arms to keep blockers off him and help him move them aside.

Cons: Slow first step - in a standup position, he often takes an additional step backwards to help him get started; with his hand down, he was often the last off the line. Doesn't show elite outside rush skills - his best plays came when rushing from outside to inside, and found himself stymied more often than not when trying to go outside the OT.

Those are just first impressions, but I'd feel a lot better about him if we were running a 3-4 (I think that's a problem with acquiring talent for this front that we all identified and discussed at the time of the switch back). He seems more comfortable rushing standing up. Looking forward to watching more and developing better opinion on him.

Holy shit. This is a fantastic return. Never thought they'd include DJ Moore. They just paid him and weren't in that bad of cap hell.

Their offense could suck enough to garner another high pick next year, and the bears have a #1 WR again? With Claypool, Mooney, and Kmet. I like that a lot. Now fix the goddamned OL.

Will be interested to see who's on the board at #9 or if Poles deals again.

Well holy shit. They really did go early.

First impressions: Looks like a good return overall but given the strength of the Bears negotiating position i am disappointed they couldn't turn that #61 overall into the Panthers other 2nd rounder at like #39. You get 1st round talents at #39, you don't at #61. That would've been a home run. This is good, not a home run tho.

Moore was a little quieter last season making him a slightly buy low candidate. But he's been very good in the years prior. Dunno where i'd rank jhim but he's a legit #1. He got paifd i believeso i doubt he's cheap. Dunno what he's earning next season, doesnt really matter i suppose.

I was starting to really talk myself into that Jaxon kid, that def wont happen now. At #9 you've got to figure OT as a likely pick. Thats a good thing.

My initial reaction when I saw the news was that I was bummed the 2025 pick was a second and not a first. But I think Moore makes up for that. We fall to 9, but have 1 less piece that we need to fill, a solid #1 WR. Probably have to go OT now assuming Anderson doesn't fall.

I love Jaxon and you know Fields would want him over anyone. But yeah that ship has sailed now.

Have to say, im pretty surprised the player wasn't Brian Burns. That would've allowed for Jaxon at #9 which as you say Fields had to be up for. Not saying thats a better way to go than this, i don't know. Just surprised the player was Moore tbh.

Especially since now the Panthers rookie QB will have no one to throw to. Good thing is they will be garbage next year so hopefully we have a top 5 pick no matter what we do.

My dream scenario was to trade down to 4 with the Colts for their first rounder next year and whatever else we could get, then trade down from 4 to back of the top 10 for another first rounder next year. But realistically I can't be too upset with this haul. Now Poles HAS to absolutely knock this #9 pick out of the fucking park.

I was thinking thew same kinda thing re the trade downs.

Its a good point about the Panthers, have to think there's a great shot at a top10 pick there next year.

One final observation befroe bed. And why i was high on Jaxon. With this move the Bears essentially have 3 outside WR's now. Someone'sd making way for Moore make no mistake, but there's no obvious slot. Both the Beras and Steelers have tried Claypool in the slot and it doesnt work. Personally i like Mooney outside. Move him around a bit sure, but i really dont wanna see him working primarily out of the slot next season. Jaxon is gonna own the slot. Guy has 100catch seasons written all over him.

I don't think Brian Burns was ever going to happen unless he was the focal point of the deal/return. Carolina turned down two 1sts for him at the trade deadline last year.

The speculation with Moore last year before he got extended was his hypothetical value of much of the pundit world was a 1 and 3. He had a down year, but Carolina was a bad team at the beginning because Rhule lost the lockerroom then Wilkes made them respectable, winning 5 out of their last 8 and that's how Moore got the chunk of his year back. The talent is still there.

At least he got a 7th round comp for Megaleg to recoup N'Keal Harry.

I'll never understand comp pick formula. Bum ass Mohammed probably offset James Daniels or Allen Robinson. Teams that draft well just get them. Smart teams buy cut veterans. The bears are neither of them.

When I was hearing compensation I must admit I was bummed when I heard 61 after 9. But when I heard DJ was part of it I figured the deal was for both Carolinas 2nd round picks and then we traded 39 back to Carolina for DJ More.

  18. vvarder Franchise Player Bears

lol, dude I said I LIKE Herbert, but they have different styles and I think they complement each other well. Agree on comp, it'll be less than $10, but after that it's splitting hairs to me. None of it is going to impact their ability to add other players, they can go blockbuster a few times with all the cap space they have. That said, the writing may already be on the wall, so we'll see.

  19. vvarder Franchise Player Bears

Intitial blush, I don't hate the trade. That 1st next year is going to be high probably, so that's good news. Like others I'd rather have the 2nd pick, but I don't hate blang/rob's notion that's knocked down entirely for Moore being included. And the 2nd in 2025 too.

I'm going to go with Ev here. Definitely good, but it's no Dynasty builder on its own. There was no fleecing done here, it was a fair trade.

He's not done yet, but it's also clear they aren't sold on him as any kind of solution. He's got a big prove it year coming up.

Skoronski? Or do we have better bets at OT for #9, now that we've got the actual pick, what do you think pat/dline?

Do you want to know why this was a brilliant move? They didn’t move from 1 down to 9, they moved from 1 to 5. With Fields, they aren’t taking a QB…however, there will be 4 QBs taken before their pick at #9. Therefore, compensation wise, they probably got the best package of picks they could have gotten from any other team ahead of the Panthers, PLUS an offensive weapon that comes as a proven veteran commodity.

In reality you aren’t looking at the top 9 players to pine over who they are taking at #9, you are looking at the top 5 players. The pick they would have taken at #1, just might be available at #9, depending on how their board falls.
