Yay! The Browns (and the GuardIndians) are in 1st Place. Jacoby Brissett is exceeding my expectations. David Njoku earned his money. Nick Chubb. Nay: Myles Garrett was invisible. (I suspect TJ Watt would have been front and center.) Four catches for players not named Cooper or Njoku.. Yuck:. The injury to Anthony Walker. Out for the season. The Deja Vu on Pittsburgh's on-side kick.
I think you pretty much summed up everything I was thinking, Lyman, other than adding York to the Yuck list for missing another PAT. He looked fine the rest of the game. Hope it's just some rookie yips and he's worked through them. I rewatched the second half and from what I saw, Brisset is making really quick reads and getting the ball out. There just isn't time for the longer routes to develop before he's already passing the ball to an RB, Njoku or Cooper. Wish I could remember where I saw the stats so I could quote them. From what I read (thru 2 games at least) Brisset was one of the quicker QB's to pass the ball (from snap to release). He also ranks almost last for the distance of these passes before our receivers are turning upfield. The Browns are relying on short under 10 yards passing and a few medium passes (10-15yds) and taking bite size chunks. Brisset has only thrown 4 balls over 20 yards so far in 61 attempts. This also should tell you how well the running game is playing and how well the O-line is doing their jobs. Opposing teams should be stacking the box against us since we aren't passing deep. After the first game, I was pretty disappointed with Brisset and couldn't imagine winning any games. Over the past two games though, he is playing exactly like the front office envisioned him playing. High completion rate, no turnovers so far, fairly mobile and hasn't taken too many sacks so far. I was thinking we'd get more of a Trubisky type performance out of him (sorry Steelers fans, not meaning to offend). The Steelers did an excellent job on Garrett. I can see other teams trying to mimic the same coverage for him. With Clowney out, the newer guys are going to need to step it up, and Woods is going to have to figure things out to get more pressure with our LB's banged up as well.
I like the list Lym. One thing I haven't seen mentioned is Professor Stefanski actually managed the game quite well last night. His use of time outs and play calling buried the clock. Also credit Jacoby for taking the sack to keep the clock running. Very sma Also: Special Teams - Jesus Christ! Ineptitude all around. Why in God's name did our kick returner take the kick out of the end zone when we are up? Why can't we cover an onside kick: ever? Can someone count to twelve? It's a miracle we didn't pull another Jets last night.
Didn't have a chance earlier, but congrats Browns fans on the win. Jacoby Brissett is playing far better than I expected. Glad to read that Garrett isn't seriously injured. Good luck the rest of the way.
