Week 2 Peckers Game: Thought I would pick over the bones in a little more detail. - Someone please go up to Getsy and punch him in the face. You stupid motherfucker. Only the Bears Offense could need 4inches on a must have play and ask Fields to run 4yards. So so bad. Regardless of whether you think he broke the plain or not( I don't), it was an idiotic call. Getsy was flying up in my estimation after that first drive. Came out committed to the run, kept it simple, had success. Then next up he goes full Nagy smartest man and comes out throwing. I mean if you have to throw then why not play off the success of the last drive and go PA?? 3 straight 3 & outs then gets back to the run late on and has success again. This is not rocket science. - O-Line had a real Jeckyl & Hyde day. Very impressive in the run game and an abomination in pass protection. Borom had a terrible game. Jenkins good plays and bad. Mustipher mostly bad. Braxton Jones had another tough day, and I know I said this last week but he had a tough draw last night. Preston Smith played a really great game, run & pass. I thought he was maybe the best player on the field last night. - I would love it if the film showed up that Kmet made a lot of great blocks in the run game that we didn't see. On first pass tho he was dogshit. Dropped a pass he should've had and whiffed his block on the WR screen to Mooney that got blown up. - Roquan had lots of tackles in the stat sheet, problem was they were 6+yards downfield. No meaningful impact, thank god Poles didn't pay him. - If the D is gonna get run on like that consistently then this team is in for a very long season. On the bright side the Texans run game stinks. They rank 30th in the league and have a long carry of 12yards. - Was hoping to see Kyler Gordon bounce back. He was horrific. He looks lost out there right now and has clearly found it a tough adjustment. But he isn't helping himself in any way. When you have Jones in the backfield make the fucking tackle, that whiff cost 12yards. If you have outside contain on a run play then contain! Another screw up that cost them 10-12yards. - Monty once again had a great game no one will talk about. Herbert too. On a day when they averaged 8.8ypc they combined for just 19 carries. That number should've been in the 30s. - Fields dropped back to pass like 16times and got hit 8. He was hurried a few more. We know he held onto it too long a few times(which can happen when your trying to wait for receivers to get open), he also had some disappointing throws(the rollout deep shot even if it hadn't been completed id like the receiver to have had a legit play on the ball). But the bottom line is he's getting pressured way too often. I don't think anyones saying he doesn't have things to work on, what concerns me is how does he work on them in this situation? A lot of Bears games I come out of thinking to myself how many QBs in the league would've come out that game with a good stat line. And its not many. This is precisely why the Bears should've prioritised getting him blockers and receivers. The worst situation you can be in is the Daniel Jones situation where you don't know what you have either way cos with so little talent around them how do you evaluate effectively?
Roquan was awful. Kyler Gordon got completely embarrassed. How can a line run block but not pass block? How are you only good at pushing people around half the time but suck at it the other half? Who runs shotgun 90% of the time when the run game is actually working? And shotgun on the goal line on 4th down. The Packers are the better team. There's no doubt. And nothing the refs did last night had anything to do with the Bears losing. But what the fuck? A blatant hold on a sack, no flag. 12 men on the field, no flag. The announcers praising a tight end for blocking while showing a clip of him grabbing handfuls of jersey. The first Bears penalty for a low block by a defender and the replay shows he never even touched him. That was some brutal officiating. It doesn't matter at all. A couple of the bad calls had the Bears get a net positive play anyway and the others weren't gonna change the tide of the game. But fuck me...I'm sick of it.
Yeah he sucks. Cut him and draft a new QB that also knows how to block for himself and then run and catch the pass Bugs Bunny style.
This play is the perfect example of what we all knew was coming: a QB with talent that won't be able to develop it properly because he doesn't have any talent around him. Edit: and to be clear, Justin does have glaring weaknesses that he needs to improve on to be a successful QB at the next level. He's just not getting the support he needs to do that.
Dumb tweet. Let's cherry pick 1 good throw to our garbage heap of a TE. No one is ignoring the o-line and Kmet. Fields haters could have a field (no pun intended) day with the all-22s on dozens of other plays. As far as Kmet, he should be moved way down the depth chart. Worst starting TE in the league, hasn't missed a game and still hasn't caught a TD in 2 years. Right now everyone but Monty/Herbert sucks on offense.
That one throw was his only incompletion through the first 3 quarters. If you want to tear Fields down for mistakes then you also have to acknowledge when he does his job but his teammates don’t.
Ignorance. Fans hurt when their team loses. I’ve heard of fans losing their lives to heart attacks because of results of games.
Okay, you can fairly criticize the guy for his play, but this is an overreaction. It could just as well have been one of those team reporter garbage questions, like "Do you feel how hurt Bears fans are" or something like that. And it's a fair response - 'We want it more, because this is our job. We are working for it, we know the feeling'. If Barstool says something, you can pretty much guarantee it's trash.
Barstool also pulled that line out of a larger answer, and without any context of the question that was asked in the first place. I have no problem with Fields' answer, because I have no idea whether or not I should. What I do know is that Barstool is a trash organization. Edit: because, for the record, it is 100% true. You and I aren't putting in any work on that field. We love the game, but we're not playing the game. So until someone gives me more context for that answer, I do not have a problem with it.
I have no problem with it either. When I put in the effort let's just say studying for an exam and that results in failure I'd be extremely pissed. On the other hand, if I didn't study and flunked it because I was out with BWW getting drunk the night before, and being a responsible person like I am, I should have expected it because I would have nobody else to blame but BWW (just kidding) it would be babyfan. Any fan that gets angry over being led by the implication of the tweet needs to take a course in rational thinking and then study for that bitch.
LMAO When you hold unreasonable expectations in life with anything you can undoubtedly expect disappointment. The last time I checked it isn't the Bears' responsibility or its players to maintain the cardiac health of its fans.
So much to unwind on a loss Monday. That video shows a far less contested catch than I thought. Kmet just isn't good. I feel like there was one play I saw him blocking well on that first drive when they went down the field where Monty came around his edge, but maybe that was the liquor seeing things. Never know. Ev brought up that absolute whiff on the WR screen though, and that one was painful. But by the same token, I remember the week before the announcers praising the exact same play, with the man in motion getting the ball immediately, etc. The Packers clearly watched that tape and were prepared. The Fields thing.....it's kind of like Rodgers "own you" stuff. You're not wrong, it's just a bad look. Those fans pay your salary dude. I haven't seen the whole thing either, but someone said it wasn't out of context, and really, again, it's true, fans show up and invest yelling and emotions, those guys actually play. I'm not going to flay him for that, but next time, maybe word things better. I want them to be hurt after that performance, it was pathetic. I think for me, this was the first test of the new regime, and they failed. The Packers were going to win this game, hell, they've won almost all of them for the past decade. The offense came out and drove down the field, looked great doing it too, and then 3 (?) consecutive 3 and outs? And after the Bears go up by 4 points, the defense immediately lets them drive the length of the field for a TD as well. Defense failed, Offensive failed, Special Teams failed, Fields failed, the ONLY people who were worth a shit were the RBs, and Monty more than Herbert. I mean, that second quarter, 3 TDs given up, 0 first downs, starting field position for the packers averaged 39 yard line. As thorough an ass beating as they come. And then in the 2nd half they just ran the clock out. For an ENTIRE HALF OF FOOTBALL. Eberflus' face at the end of the half.....again, maybe alcohol but it looked like he had the thousand mile stare. Oh you've never experienced Packers/Bears football eh? They at least take this shit seriously. Just to say it again, because it needs to be said. 4th and inches and you line up in shotgun. Amazing. And then you have Fields keep it. *even more* amazing. And putting this last because in no way should anyone think it's the reason the Bears lost (or frankly even affected the score), but the refs, yet again, were fucking atrocious. I groaned the minute I heard this was the 4th game this crew had done for Bears/Packers, because I am yet to remember a game where the refs didn't do a terrible job. The phantom low block call, the spot on the Fields 1st down where they gave him a solid half yard LESS than earned, which while overturned, gives the Packers essentially a free timeout for a fresher D-line and breaks up the rhythm the Bears had going. There's more but it pisses me off so much, the Packers DON'T NEED THE HELP, yet they get it, without fail, every time. There was one bad call I saw against the Packers, and that was the hold on Blackson, because while they were holding all game, that particular replay didn't look that bad to me. It ended up not mattering because the Packers converted that 2nd and 40 or whatever the fuck it was. Ultimately, my expectation was just not to get our ass whooped. And we were thoroughly outclassed and smacked across the field. Fuck this team.
It's because of us that he gets to put in the work on that field for millions of dollars. That's the self-awareness part that he's lacking. Urlacher had this problem too years ago. Fields probably could've made his point better by saying something like "the fans don't realize the amount of work we put in and how much we care", rather than commenting on how we feel. It's a bad thing to say and my guess is Fields will be smart enough to apologize for it eventually.
Also, thinking about Fields some more, I get where you're coming from Blang. While I think it's too early to call, he really hasn't shown much of anything yet. Personally, I think the "flashes" are fewer are more far between than even Mitch. Mitch had his problems, but we definitely gave him rope. I had to go back and look, and while the supporting cast for Mitch is much better, he had a roughly comparable year his first year under John Fox stats-wise. Mitch had same # of games started, 300 *more* yards, same number of TDs (7), and 3 *less* INTs than Justin, almost the same stats for the rest of the board. 2018/2019 Mitch improved, and he just didn't put it together as a franchise guy long term. 2 games in is way too early, but given his supporting cast, I would be hard pressed to say that Fields is going to exceed Mitch's 2nd year. I'm really convinced though, that Poles and Eberflus do not believe in him/trust him. They didn't give him huge support, we're going in full rebuild this year, and they are lukewarm on him at best. I mean, while he only completed 7 passes yesterday he only had 11 attempts. And one of those 11 was an interception. They say they trust him, but I'm not feeling it at all. Hard to say as we'd never get a straight answer, just my gut feeling at this point. Honestly guys, what percentage would you put on Fields becoming the guy? I would think it's gotta be less than 50% he will make it, just given the odds of QBs in general, but then ALSO the supporting cast thus far. I think at this point it's just hope on a bit of a long shot no matter what.
It's just not something I really care about. I am a big hockey fan in South Florida - the Panthers organization is getting better, but it's very clear that the they've had a pro-fan campaign with reporters for years now. You get softball questions to the players, and the players have clearly been told ahead of time what their answers should (roughly) be. The players have been told to talk about the fans, etc. And frankly, it's tiring. I don't need a player to talk about me. I'll celebrate with them when they win and hurt with them when they lose. Just go play the game. That reporter probably asked a stupid question that was never going to get a meaningful answer, and Justin was actually honest about it. Oh, well. Unimportant, to me.
If this is the case then Poles better have a path forward for next year, whether that's through the draft or FA. I think a weak case can be made that Poles/Flus might actually be in tank mode, and while Fields development is important to them, securing a number of higher draft picks to fix the o-line might be a bigger priority. What I really want from a GM is a fucking plan. Pace would wing it from year to year and we saw how that worked out.
