Alvin Kamara out of practice Thursday Saints running back Alvin Kamara‘s practice participation took a step in the wrong direction. Kamara was listed as a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice, but he did not practice at all on Thursday. Kamara has injured ribs. Kamara had nine carries for 39 yards in the season-opening win over the Falcons. Mark Ingram, Dwayne Washington, and Tony Jones Jr. are the other backs on the Saints roster. Cornerback Paulson Adebo (ankle) was the only other player to sit out practice. Adebo did not play against the Falcons. Quarterback Jameis Winston (back) was a limited participant for the second straight day. Ingram (ankle), Washington (hamstring), defensive end Cameron Jordan (hip), wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith (shoulder), cornerback Alonte Taylor (hip), and tackle Landon Young (hip) were also listed as limited. Thursday Night Football: J.C. Jackson, Trey Smith are active The Chargers called cornerback J.C. Jackson a game-time decision. They made the decision, and he is ready to make his debut with the team. Jackson is active for Thursday Night Football. Jackson was questionable for the game as he worked his way back from August ankle surgery that kept him out last week. The Chargers’ inactives are receiver Keenan Allen (hamstring), tight end Donald Parham Jr. (hamstring), running back Isaiah Spiller, defensive lineman Christian Covington, defensive back JT Woods, offensive lineman Brenden Jaimes and quarterback Easton Stick. The Chiefs’ inactives are kicker Harrison Butker (ankle), running back Ronald Jones, quarterback Shane Buechele, offensive lineman Darian Kinnard, defensive end Josh Kaindoh, defensive tackle Malik Herring and linebacker Jack Cochrane. Right guard Trey Smith, who was listed as questionable with an ankle injury, is dressed. Matt Ammendola, signed to the practice squad earlier this week, will kick for the Chiefs. PFT
Sure am glad I pay extra every fucking month to have NFL Network. They obviously care more about revenue than their fans. Sure . . . I'm a Browns fan but I am (or was) a fan of the NFL and looked forward to watching what promised to be one of the better games of the 2022 season only to find out I also now need to subscribe to Amazon Prime. Fuck Amazon Prime and fuck the NFL.
I have Amazon prime. Just realized that the game was on. Had to sign in on with my TV . No more free phone football, now this BS.
This is pushing the future of "broadcast" networks via streaming. I have mixed feelings about that. I do like things like PlutoTV - which is free and can be accessed via their web site as well as through various apps. The main downside to that type of streaming "network" is that the commercial breaks are inserted almost at random - based on time intervals rather than natural breaks in the content. If the popularity continues to grow, we might see more of the streaming files (programs) tagged to identify the proper break points for the streaming services to insert their ads. This game is far better in that regard. It's the regular network feed created live on the fly by a crew in a production truck, commercials and all. But like everyone else I'm not crazy about a subscriber-only situation for a prime time national game WITH ads. Amazon is double-dipping, and we're helping them make it part of their business model by watching.
Thursday Night Football: Chiefs hold off Chargers 27-24 as rookie Jaylen Watson stars Jaylen Watson was working at a Wendy’s managed by his mother in Augusta, Georgia, three years ago as he waited for a chance to continue his football career. He finally became academically eligible and finished his college career at Washington State. On Thursday night, before a national television audience, Watson starred for the Chiefs. The seventh-round draft selection’s 99-yard, pick-six turned around the game, helping the Chiefs to a 27-24 victory over the Chargers. Watson’s game-changing play — the longest go-ahead, fourth-quarter touchdown scored by a rookie in NFL history — came with the Chargers at the 3-yard line and on the verge of breaking a 17-17 tie. He stepped in front of Gerald Everett and took the interception the distance. The Chargers blew a 10-point, second-half lead as the Chiefs scored 20 points in a row before Justin Herbert threw a late touchdown pass to Joshua Palmer. Los Angeles didn’t recover the onside kick with 1:11 left — though the ball was free for a moment — ending their comeback hopes. Herbert was pummeled after losing center Corey Linsley, who didn’t play the second half because of a knee injury, and right tackle Trey Pipkins, who went out in the second half with an ankle injury. A hard hit by Chiefs linebacker Mike Danna to Herbert’s midsection left the quarterback in obvious pain the rest of the game. Danna’s hit forced Herbert to leave for one play, with Chase Daniel replacing him. Herbert finished 33-of-48 for 334 yards with three touchdowns and the pick-six. Patrick Mahomes, who had two potential interceptions dropped by Asante Samuel, went 24-of-35 for 235 yards and two touchdowns. He threw scoring strikes of 9 yards to Jerick McKinnon and 41 yards to Justin Watson. Matt Ammendola, filling in for injured kicker Harrison Butker, kicked field goals of 19 and 31 yards. PFT
Alvin Kamara, Jameis Winston questionable to face Bucs The Saints have several injury questions at running back heading into Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers. Alvin Kamara, Mark Ingram, and Dwayne Washington have all been listed as questionable to play in the NFC South clash this weekend. Kamara went from limited by a rib injury on Wednesday to out of practice on Thursday and reporters at the open portion of Friday’s session didn’t see him on the field. Ingram is dealing with an ankle injury and Washington has a hamstring injury. All the injuries leave Tony Jones Jr. as the only healthy back on the 53-man roster, but the Saints did sign Latavius Murray to the practice squad this week. There’s also a question mark next to quarterback Jameis Winston‘s name. Winston got checked out in the sideline medical tent last weekend and is listed as questionable with a back injury, but there has not been much sign of concern about his ability to play on Sunday. Wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith (shoulder) and cornerback Alonte Taylor (hip) were listed as questionable as well. Cornerback Paulson Adebo (ankle) is the only player who has been ruled out. PFT
Najee Harris off injury report, set to play Sunday The Steelers won’t have linebacker T.J. Watt against the Patriots, but they will have running back Najee Harris. Harris hurt his foot this summer and then hurt it again in Week One against the Bengals, which created some concern that he’d have to miss this weekend’s game. Harris was confident that he’d be fine, however, and the practice week bore that out. Harris returned to full practice participation on Friday and the Steelers did not give him an injury designation for their matchup with New England. No other Steelers received injury designations either. Cornerback Levi Wallace (ankle), linebacker Robert Spillane (eye), and offensive lineman Mason Cole (ankle) were on the injury report during the week, but all join Harris as being healthy enough to go on Sunday. QB Zach Wilson (knee) has been ruled out. Browns T Jack Conklin (knee) is listed as questionable and T Chris Hubbard (elbow, illness) has been ruled out. DL Perrion Winfrey did not get a designation after missing Friday’s practice for disciplinary reasons, but head coach Kevin Stefanski said that no call has been made on his status. Panthers at Giants LB Brandon Smith (thigh) is doubtful for the Panthers and WR Shi Smith (groin) is questionable after missing practice on Friday. The Giants listed LB Azeez Ojulari (calf) and Kayvon Thibodeaux (knee) as doubtful, which puts them on track to miss their second straight game. WR Kadarius Toney (hamstring) is questionable while CB Nick McCloud (hamstring), S Jason Pinnock (shoulder), CB Aaron Robinson (appendicitis), and WR Wan’Dale Robinson (knee) are all out. C Brian Allen (knee) will miss the game. Bengals at Cowboys The Bengals listed WR Tee Higgins (concussion), TE Devin Asiasi (quad), and DT Josh Tupou (shin) as questionable for Sunday. WR Michael Gallup (knee), QB Dak Prescott (thumb), S Jayron Kearse (knee), G Connor McGovern (ankle), and DE Tarell Basham (thigh) are all out for the Cowboys. Agreed. Back in the day when they said questionable. they played. Doubtful? Go to the bench. Today? Who knows!
George Kittle returns to practice, listed as questionable The 49ers got tight end George Kittle back on the practice field Friday, but we’ll have to wait to find out if he will be back in the lineup for Sunday’s game against the Seahawks. Kittle is listed as questionable to play his first game of the regular season. A groin injury has sidelined Kittle for the last couple of weeks and the team would welcome his return to their offensive attack as they try for their first win of the season. 49ers General Manager John Lynch said the team will take a decision on Kittle playing down to the wire and playing at home means they don’t need to make any call about traveling with Kittle this weekend. Offensive lineman Daniel Brunskill (hamstring) has been ruled out for the second straight week. PFT
Justin Jefferson: I was shocked when Philly didn’t draft me, but I’m happier in Minnesota In the 2020 NFL draft, the Eagles selected wide receiver Jalen Reagor with the 21st overall pick and the Vikings selected wide receiver Justin Jefferson 22nd. That proved to be a big mistake by the Eagles, as Jefferson is the much better player. And Jefferson is grateful the Eagles made that mistake. Now Jefferson and the Vikings (who now have Reagor as well, acquired in a trade last month) are preparing to play the Eagles on Monday night. And Jefferson is recalling that draft night when the Eagles passed on him and the Vikings picked him. “Every mock draft had me going to Philly, so when Philly was on the board, getting the phone call, and it being Minnesota, it was definitely a shock. But I’m definitely happy — way happier — to be here than there,” Jefferson said. Jefferson is looking forward to facing the team that he thought would draft him. “I’m excited for it. I can’t wait,” Jefferson said. Eagles fans may be watching in frustration, wondering about how different things would be if the Eagles had made the right choice on draft night two years ago. PFT ____________ ________________________ Im happier too!
Colts downgrade Michael Pittman to out The Colts have lost their last seven road matchups against the Jaguars. Breaking that streak is now officially going to be a little bit tougher. Indianapolis has downgraded receiver Michael Pittman from questionable to out. That likely means he isn’t making the trip down to Florida. Pittman was initially listed as questionable. He was limited in Wednesday’s practice but did not participate on Thursday or Friday. The Colts previously ruled out linebacker Shaquille Leonard (back) and receiver Alec Pierce (concussion). Defensive tackle DeForest Buckner (hip) and cornerback Kenny Moore (hip) remain questionable. Indianapolis has Ashton Dulin, Parris Campbell, Dezmon Patmon, and Mike Strachan available at receiver on the 53-man roster. Ethan Fernea and Keke Coutee are on the team’s practice squad. PFT
