How f'n bad was that first half? Net 3 passing yards, no points, one really bad interception by Fields. Just all kinds of horrendous minus the Peanut Punch by Jaylon.

And then the lights come on during a scramble drill and the offense comes alive a bit and the defense feeds off that energy and allows no points plus they get a big pick.

Halftime adjustments on offense? Is that what we saw or did things just get executed a bit better?

The INT was really bad and all on Fields. He didn't see the safety. You absolutely can't make that throw. And he's still holding the ball way too long at times which is leading to big sacks. Getsy has to speed up his clock.

Bosa wrecked Jones a few times, as expected. Hufanga basically went to the level of Urlacher during the Monday Night Miracle on us. He was absolutely everywhere blowing up plays.

The FG penalty is all on the ST coach. How does your kicker and rookie punter not know they can't do that? That's embarrassing.

Kyler Gordon and Quan Brisker both had some mistakes but both, especially Brisker, showed what they are capable of as well. Brisker had a really good game overall. Love seeing safeties in the backfield making plays.

EJax doing something good. I will take it.

Not sure what our run scheme was but the 49ers were blowing it up big time and it looked awful.

Discipline is a good thing. Let the other team make all the mental errors. Really nice job in the penalty department. On a day the zebras were making some touchy calls as well.

49ers players sounded like bitches after the game. A lot of complaints about the calls and the weather.

I didn't understand rotating Patrick in for Jenkins at RG and then rotating back. Was that just to get him some snaps? And why at the expense of Jenkins? The kid needs reps. That was odd. Were Mustipher or Whitehair having issues with calls and needed Patrick out there to get it cleaned up? Didn't get it.

Saw on Twitter this morning that the Bears posted an 88% pass block win yesterday from their line. Not sure how much faith I put in that. Slow traction accounts for some of it.

Bears didn't blitz at all. Lance is just the 7th QB in 15 years to drop back 30 times or more and and not face a blitz. QBs in that scenario are 1-6, btw. Because when you can get some pressure with the front 4 and let everyone else cover...you're gonna do well.

Dominique Robinson.....hand strength....wow. 1.5 sacks. 2 QB hits. 7 tackles. Welcome to the NFL kid. Oh and it was the first time in his life he played DE.

For Fields to have that kind of first half but still finish the game with an 85.7 passer rating is impressive. Good recovery. Not sure why it took so long to start moving the pocket and calling rollouts but that has to be the meat of the gameplan moving forward until the line settles.

9 tackles and a half sack for Roquan in the Briggs spot at WLB.

I already like our rookie punter more than the last guy. The penalty was dumb but I don't blame him. He averaged 46 yards per punt on a bad weather day though.

You found a way to score 3 touchdowns against one of the best defenses you will see all season. No excuses moving forward Getsy.

It's a victory Monday. Not sure how many of these will have but I'll take it. Coffee tastes better....the sunshine looks better...there seems to be less traffic everywhere you drive. Life is good when the Bears win.

    Fuck the Packers.

    @BearsWillWin

Congratulations on an ugly win. Got to watch most of this one and it was sad state of affairs for both teams. Bears got the win though. Hope you guys figure things out for the Packers next week, although they seem to have sucked this week too and got a beat down by the Vikes.

What does this even mean? Sure as hell seemed like our o-line was demolished on 88% of the pass plays.

    Fuck the Packers.

Yeah, fuck that big bitch. If he was a real man, he'd show up and tell me where to stick it.

I appreciate y'all doing your thing, as always. I missed the game for our older son's birthday party. Used to be that I could convince them not to have the party on football Sunday, but the Bears haven't really been good enough for me to make that argument, this year.

Lots to clean up. I'm still working through replays myself, but it looks like something clicked in the second half. Do we have coaches who make second half adjustments, now???

Dline how can you call yourself a football fan if you skip a game for your son’s birthday? Teach him to be a real man and watch football,

This doesn't offer necessarily the most insight, but I think it's a very fair look at Fields and the offense.

Lot of people making their debut's in this game, some in frankly very tough spots. Tried to factor that in a bit, as well as the fact its only one game and it takes time to judge, some settle in faster than others.

Getsy - First half there seemed a real desire to try and establish the run, which I hope carries over. But when it became evident early on just how superior the 9ers DL(and really entire front 7) was I think Getsy got very conservative, bordering on cowed. The second half did improve generally which I hope is a good sign, tho it must be noted the biggest play of the game was a broken play so no credit there.

I simply don't understand how you can make the boot/rollout such a small part of your game plan going into this contest when you must surely know how over matched your OL will be and how great Fields looked outside the pocket in preseason. That really is a black mark on Getsy for me and for what it suggests re game planning, knowing your players and their strengths etc. He needs to do better than this.

Braxton Jones - He did have some good individual reps at times, but overall had a very tough day at the office. And it was never gonna be any different. Bosa is a stud fuck, Jones a 5th rounder making his first start. Getsy tried to minimise the long developing plays/get the ball out, there were some chips, but ultimately it was a bit of a firing squad. I really don't want to make a judgement at all on Jones after that, nothing about it was reasonable lol.

The O-Line as a whole got dominated for the most part but I've already spoken on it so don't want to dwell, except to say I really don't get what the deal was with Patrick/Jenkins at RG.

Brisker/Gordon - I thought Brisker had a pretty good game tbh. He was flying around, it didn't look to big for him. He got juked massively on one Lance QB draw run(maybe the 3rd & 12 they converted. That didn't look good. But overall he was around the ball a lot, interested to see him again.

Gordon, hmmm. My first impression is he might've been a hell of a 2nd round pick 30years ago heh. Physical. Clearly an in the box thumper. He looked really bad in pass coverage. I mean terrible on multiple occasions. These a SS can't just whack people, they need to play pass D too. It was only his first game, maybe he was more nervous like I said and will settle down, but yeah I wasn't impressed.

That was an amazing play. Like one of the plays of the game for me. When players have all their momentum going the wrong way and only one handful of jersey they always slip off. He tossed Lance down like a boss. I really know next to nothing about this kid, feel like a lot of guys on that line I don't know much about. Hell of a first game tho. The DL in general too did very well with not an ounce of quit in them.

Meant to say, love this play. Very nice initial awareness as things develop around him. The hit, wow. That shows the natural power Jenkins possesses. There's no real run up he just steps into it. Most guys when they give a helpout pop like that it stands the DE up kills their momentum and you say good rep. Jenkins knocked Bosa on his ass!

As he moved downfield to lead block for Fields I'd like to see Jenkins get into Armstead more aggressively there. He allowed Armstead to make the first move which let him dictate the contact at arms length and then get in on the play. Smash that initial arm down get your hands into the chest and then pile drive him backwards.

Horrific, but I'm still willing to cut him slack, it's a learning opportunity. Agreed, the clock has to speed up, and I'm starting to think it will.

I don't know if I said it here, but Santos going up to the media and taking all the blame, that's a solid move. We win and no one talks about the two missed XPs.

And what about Monty? Why was Herbert able to hit the hole and get those chunk plays? Monty used to be a bruiser and keep his legs turning, which even given the weather I expected more.

This is the one good thing to come from the Lovie tree. That and the hustle, the whole HITS thing, as meatball as it is, clearly works.

This one always pisses me off. Were the Bears playing on a different field? Didn't the 49ers have the better weather in the first half and only get 10 points? Yeah the weather made it more difficult on both teams, and stunted the offense. But the Bears came back DURING that shitstorm. And say what you want about how bad Fields was in the 1st half, the second half hitting that one busted play really lit up the entire offense. How many times would Mitch just not see a wide open guy like that. Fields is not (yet) broken from getting hit too much, etc, and is still looking down the field.

Agreed, I think in this case they were getting the pressure with 4 down linemen and didn't need the extra man. BUT at some point they will need the extra player, and Eberflus has a history of blitzing the least in the entire league. When it works, it's great, but when we end up not getting pressure, that will be the test.

Hell yes. Especially early in the season when there's still the long chance of a decent season, that outlier hope. Unlike Nagy getting his wins in the "garbage time" of the season.

There was plenty to worry about there, but it could have been worse, from a former Packers offensive coach. That Denver game had some of the worst coaching in years. We will get a BIG fucking test this weekend against a rebounding Packers Defense in a "get right" game as people are calling it, with our Owner coming off a super shitty game.

One thing I haven't seen anyone mention, is Cole Fucking Kmet. Honestly, this is year 3 dude, I don't expect to see you still on the fucking sidelines and Tonges or whoever it was is out there making catches. Enough is enough, no more excuses make some fucking plays. This kid has potential but I swear to christ if he doesn't show some flashes in the next couple games I am labeling this dude a bust.

FTP, Fuck The Packers, always and forever.

  13. dlinebass5 M.V.P. Bears

So, one thing you have to do if you're running this offensive scheme: block. Despite Kmet having the frame for it, he's not much of a blocker. So if he's out there, you're already tipping your hand / killing the run game. And he's not athletic enough to threaten so much as a receiver that you're okay with the trade off.

When he got drafted, I thought he had already hit his ceiling and was going to be a mediocre TE at best at the next level. If he doesn't start blocking, he won't have a chance to prove me wrong.

Physically he looks like he should be a stud TE. Everything about his play is mediocre. Average hands, no speed, doesn't get separation, totally incapable of catching a contested ball, bad blocker.

This year we're really going to miss Jimmy Graham in goal-to-go (wow never thought I'd be typing that). This is where Kmet should be stepping up most.

He's basically some combination of Alonzo Mays and Kellen Davis. A lot of hype and potential, little production, except he was drafted even higher than both of those guys.

Kmet spent most of the final 3 quarters of the game in blocking. I actually think he's a much better blocker than he gets credit for. He's just not a dynamic offensive threat. His route tree is limited and he struggles to get separation and track the ball down the field.

  16. EvertonBears M.V.P. Bears

Yeah we all forgot about Kmet, great catch varder.

There's really no question Kmet was over drafted, that was my initial reaction and nothing has changed. He always looked like a (at best)late 3rd/4th round talent, he was just fortunate enough to be part of an extremely weak TE class and came across a GM who thru numerous previous fuckups at the position was desperate for a TE.

To go in the first 10picks of round 2 you need to be far more of a receiving threat than he is, no need to list deficiencies you guys did it already. Really feels like he already got close to his ceiling last year and while 60balls & 600yards may look pretty good for the position, in reality those kinda numbers are not what they used to be by any stretch. 2 career TD receptions in like 35games is particularly shocking to me. He's just not viewed as any kind of red zone asset.

You never want to write off a player who's 23years old, but many of Kmet's flaws are physical and at this level I don't know how you improve them. I do think he'll get more action this season, Sunday was a tough passing day and with 90+ targets last season it suggests Fields may like him. But I'd be surprised at anything more than firmly mid-tier production from Kmet. Its a shame cos its always a nice story, Chicago kid, Bears fan, playing for the team. Don't expect him to still be all 3 in 2024 tho.

I was more impressed with the defense than the offense but I’ll take it. We won’t know how impressive this win was for a couple of weeks. Were the 49ers that bad or the Bears that good? I’m not gonna worry too much about Mooney and Kmets lack of production just yet. We are talking about a game with les than 20 pass attempts.

The Bears and Fields didn’t overwhelm the 49ers but they did make the bigger plays and because of those plays won the game. Fields clearly outplayed Lance. Anybody with eyes can see that no matter how much it upsets the pundits.
