BREAKING: Happy to announce my free agency period is ending as I'm signing a 1-year deal with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Best of luck this year to the Brownies!

Are you going to start posting on the charger’s site? Can we expect any Justin Herbert pie graphs soon?

Seems like they need fans. Did the fact that they often get outnumbered by opposing teams fans in their own stadium factor into the decision? Just curious.

They are coming to Cleveland week 5. I might see your new team live this year. We like to travel Ohio in October. We were looking over the schedule last night trying to decide which game to order tics for, and narrowed it down to Chargers on 10/9 or Patriots on 10/16.

After seeing how the Watson trade has stirred up the Browns fan base I’m glad that the Steelers didn’t trade for him. Not many employers would sell the farm to have a possible serial sex offender be the face of their company. I recently witnessed something that made me think more about Watson’s predicament. There was a boy at my son’s high school that was accused of sexual misconduct by 5 different girls, the Vice Principal went and watched the video from every reported spot where it supposedly happened and the boy was totally innocent. One girl, the supposed first victim had fabricated a story that the boy was kicked out of school for rape and everyone thought that he was a sexual predator. The realty was he was totally innocent and 5 times falsely accused. The accusers had no reason to falsely accuse him. Watson has a lot of money which would at least be a possible motivating factor against him.

    Just some food for thought

Should have gone with the Lions. They’re just the Browns of the NFC.

It's about quality, not quantity. ;)
I may have to make that trip as well. Seems unlikely I'll find myself in L.A. at any point this year.

C'mon SAS. We are entering our 15th season together as opposing fans. You can't leave me now. It will ruin the streak.

The Browns quality is going to sneak up on everyone this year.

I understand the angst and I get it, but you are always welcome back SAS...One of my most respected Browns brethren.

Emerson (CB): looks like a replacement slot corner for Troy Hill. Hill is another in what seems to be a growing trend of Browns players feeling disrespected (his words, not mine) by Berry & Co. Looks to me like they needed to get cheaper at the position since Hill wasn't a bargain.

Wright (DE): developmental rush end with some decent traits although maybe undersized for a 6'5" frame? Browns fans should be thrilled Clowney re-signed for at least another season. I think Wright was a common "need pick" in my PFF.com mock drafts during the built-up to this sesaon.

Bell (WR): surprise drop (for me at least) here and I think a really solid pick-up by the team. In a conference that featured several OSU studs, Bell was the Big Ten Reciever of the Year which says a lot. He didn't test well at the Combine but looks Jarvis Landry-esque. I think he could play slot or boundary well enough and if he's given time to develop could wind up being a steal in the third round.

Winfrey (DT): all motor and intenstity, so it's hard not to root for the guy. I think teams shied away because his knock was side-to-side ability and that will definitely get tested at the next level (Big 12 doesn't really count as defense, does it?) but another guy who should make the roster as a whole better.

York (K): all the years the Browns have needed a kicker and... this is the guy they chose? I guess placekicker is a crap-shoot in the NFL but York doesn't exactly do it for me. He was an 81.8 percent accruate guy a the NCAA-level and althoug he's got the leg, there's a steep curve from NCAA to NFL. We'll see with this one...

Ford (RB): not sure running back was in the list of team needs but it will be interestin to see how Ford pans out. I made a point months ago about how Berry hasn't had a hand in the Browns' running back room (they're all John Dorsey picks) so this will be the first test to see if he "gets it" like Buddy Boy did. He's got the pedigree - I'd always roll the dice on a former Alabama running back and Ford put together a stellar senior campaign for Cincinnati. Behind Cleveland's offensive line, he should be at least a replacement-level option for D'Ernest Johnson.

Woods (WR): for me a bit of a head scratcher -- they must have seen something they liked. Doesn't look like a high-end athlete on film and never put up big numbers. Maybe a camp body or practice squad guy? I just failed to see how he fits into a Stefanski-style offense...

Thomas (EDGE): maybe some irony in all the Oklahoma players being picked up given their greatest guy is currently in football purgatory on the roster. A bit under-sized and I think (at least from what I saw on some mock draft sites) a bit of a drop here, so that would be interesting to know why. He put together two solid seasons at Norman and should get a chance to develop into a larger role behind a stop-gap solution like Clowney.

Deaton (C): probably doesn't make it out of camp, if I'm being honest

Chargers fans can still root against the Steelers, buddy, but I get it so I promise I'll come over and trash talk y'all a bit.

Although won't lie... I'm gonna be rooting for you guys at least twice - once in September and again in January.

You said it in your statement SAS.. There a steep curve from the NCAA to the NFL. What is the biggest issue with kicking in Cleveland? The wind. How do you best mitigate a wind issue? With a strong leg that can take away some of the effect of a swirling wind. This kid has one of the strongest legs to come out of college in a long time. THAT is why they wanted him. They drafted him specifically because of the issues the Browns stadium. Despite having a 81.8% career accuracy, it includes his freshman year of 77.8%, which brought his average down a tad. He made 79% of his kicks from 50+ yards, a whopping 15 of 19 kicks, so yes, 4 of his 12 misses are from beyond 50 yards out. He actually left college early as a kicker knowing his talent level. He is only 21 years old.. I'm good with drafting the best kicker in the draft, when we lost at the very least one game last season due to the kicker. That one game may have helped us into the playoffs. It would have at least made the last game of the season worth watching.

Absolutely -- one of the hardest places to kick, in fact. Kickers tend to be crap-shoots anyhow, unless you get one out of the University of Texas.
