But the Crimson Tide's crop nevertheless set marks of its own. With six first-round selections, Alabama tied the 2004 Miami draft class for the most ever. I haven't had the chance to glue my ass to a chair and break down each group to get grades out (yet), but the only team that really sticks out as having likely screwed the pooch is Houston. They drafted like a team that has no clue what their future direction is. The other obvious choice would be Seattle, but when you only have 3 selections it's really difficult to put together any kind of plan. With Buffalo, at first I thought it was a bit odd how they went about things, but looking at it now they simply decided they were going to fix to areas of concern on their roster and dedicated 4 picks to them. If it was outside of the trenches I may view it differently, but right now I think I like how they played the hand dealt to them. One more team (these are all based off of quick glances down the list) that sticks out to me is Indianapolis. It just feels like a bit of a wasted effort after the first pair of picks.
I had made the comment earlier that, off the top of my head, CHI / CLE / LAC were my favorite drafts. Now that I see all the experts agree with me, I'm rethinking that. I don't usually like to be with the talking heads...
NFL schedule release, May 12th... I'm sticking with the thought that season opener will be these two.
Going through the Undrafted Free Agent signings for the league. Just thought I'd comment on the ones that surprised me making it all the way through. In order of shock (highest-lowest). Marvin Wilson absolutely blows me away. I can't understand that one. Guessing serious interview issues, or an unknown injury. David Moore and Trill also quite shocking to me. I can at least make an argument why the rest of this group made it through, though I'd likely take a shot on lots of them personally. Carolina and Cincinnati are criminally low in these rankings. Honorable mention to Washington also. All of them probably are in my top 10. What did these rankers "want" Cincinnati to do exactly?
For those that wondered what the argument was in the Eagles draft room in the 3rd round it was that the Eagles traded down 3 spots and they got Aaron Robinson sniped in the meantime. The one guy didn't like it and didn't think it was worth it while Howie Roseman was confused because he liked both guys and was happy with either if he got an extra pick. This seems to be correct. Howie likes his linemen. Milton better work out. I like him but Robinson was a guy I was hoping for there. Instead they went CB with their next pick, a guy all over the board. And I found out why I didn't see much of him. McPhearson was a transfer along with playing on a team I'm not use to looking at defensive tape on. Story apparently is the Eagles wanted McPhearson in the late third but traded the pick to the Cowboys to move up for Smith and in the end they decided to stay put instead of trade into the 3rd because they didn't want to force any picks. Man that could have been a disaster.
Didn't get to hang out as much as I would have liked for the draft and have not studied it much but I do have a few quick hits. The Jags did exactly what I said the Jets should do back before they screwed up and won a few games loosing the #1 pick. Etienne was one of the top backs available in the draft and his and Lawrence's familiarity with each other is a plus. Sure the Jags Robinson had a successful season last year but there is nothing wrong with having two good backs one of whom is a home run threat. Was Trey Lance really that high on other teams draft boards? I feel like the 49ers could have moved up into another spot and not given up what they did. Could be wrong maybe tons of teams were high on but if he doesnt pan out whos Job is on the line? I mean you give up that much and it bombs you are pretty screwed for a few years. Unlike last time the Bears moved up to snag a QB they got it right. The question is can Nagy be trusted with him? Nagy was brought in because of his offensive mind but the results aren't backing that move up. The eagles snagged a beast in Smith. Some are scared about his size but the kid can play.
Honestly I think they were high on Lance because Fields didn't go for a while and if another team was trading up for a QB it was Lance. I'm sure someone would have done it on draft night. Although the dynamic would have changed a bunch with Miami at 3 and Philly at 6. Philly probably doesn't trade back unless it's for a haul great with SF on draft night and only 1 WR is off the board. Maybe if Miami, Atlanta and Cincy all pick (Pitts at 3, Sewell at 4 and Chase at 5?).
how does that make any sense? Says who? Based on what? I've read multiple reports that as many as 11 NFL team (GM's) had Fields ranked ahead of Lawrence, let alone North Dakota.
Fields could end up the GOAT but if you you'll be lucky to find more than a couple GMs that didn't rate Lawrence at the top.

Just trying to stir some football conversation.... I think he'll be good because he has amazing physical gifts, but I'm not sure T. Lawrence is a "slam dunk" HoF'r....Maybe. We'll see. People are awfully quick to anoint.... In all honesty, I didn't study much on the QB's this year. TL has all the attributes you'd like to see, but there's no guarantees in the NFL...
Yeah he is brutal. I have offered him so many trades for his ageing quarterback (Brady - 44). For context, he was in dead last, this was about week 10 last year, and his team clearly isn’t good. Won’t trade me his 43-year-old quarterback, but he will trade away Dalvin Cook for a single first round pick That belonged to the guy who had the most points in the entire league at the time (ended up 9th). Gets better than that. Not only just got a one, but also moved back from the third to the fourth round as part of the same trade, as if Cook wasn’t enough to warrant that first on his own. Dude is donating money. And just for bonus details, he took Trey Sermon with that pick over both Javonte Williams and Etienne.
