Don't get me wrong, obviously certain situations are better than others, and degrees of success vary depending on surroundings. I'm just a strong believer that getting a great QB can change a team's fortunes in a hurry. Getting that one piece is SO crucial.
Aaron Rodgers brings up the most obvious "situation" case of all... the guy he sat behind. As a rookie, Favre tried to drink half of Buckhead. On the field, two of his four pass attempts were incomplete. And those were the more successful throws.
Indeed, it's ZERO. The follow up question.... The QB taken with a top five pick who fared the best was 13th in passer rating last year. Who was it?
With the 9th(1.9) pick in the LAOJoe & RTTRUTH's 12th Annual Collaborative Mock Draft The Denver Broncos select LB Micha Parson, Penn State
When did I say it would instantly make the Browns good? lol! Trust me RT, I lived through every minute of the dysfunction. Landing one of those QB's I mentioned, would have changed the direction of the franchise IMO. Not saying instant SB. But not picking top 5 every year either.
No, and no. Any other guesses? Which QB taken with a top five overall pick ranked the highest for QB passer rating last season?
I'm not falling for it. It definitely isn't Mayfield but probably not by much. I'm going with a guy I thought could have had 1 more season if push came to shove. Philip Rivers. I hope it isn't Stafford.
Well maybe you didn't say that exactly. But it's how I read it. And I'm still not convinced Ben gets you there. Remember how good that PIT defense was when he got there? They still had Bettis. A smart coach. Hell he still holds one of my favourite records to quote of all time; the worst passer rating of any Superbowl winning Quarterback. The team was just too good to let his shortcomings hold them back.
Fully agree. Other misfires along the way added to the misery, but just getting stability at QB for three or four seasons would have helped a whole lot. Another factor for long time struggling teams is the constant changes in the coaching, not just in the head coach but particularly in the systems/schemes. The new staff comes in, and the current players no longer fit the new scheme. You end up churning draft picks plugging the same holes over and over and over again.
If I had to take a guess off the cuff... none lol. I don't really have a sense of who the top passers were last year honestly but I would bet Rodgers, Brees, Russ, Mahomes, Allen, and Brady make up more than half the list and none of them were top 5...
