Eagles could have one of their most important drafts of the franchise next year with currently slated to have 3 first round picks and 4 picks in the first 2 rounds regardless.
Definitely not the first time I’ve mentioned this. But honestly, I have never even come close to having less of a gauge for when you all are going to take certain players. I’ve seen guys I thought were seventh rounders taken in every round, guys I could swear I had a shot at in the fourth or fifth go in the second. I just have no idea this year
Matter of fact, let’s see if the Rams get lucky with this. I would have taken tremble at 3.40. Traded back with two guys in mind. Got tremble at 4.15 anyway. And now guy number two is still available and I’m coming up in about six picks. Queue Jeopardy theme
I had the perfect guage set last night for the Raiders. Was trying to move ahead of Joe so I could snag Kellen Mond, but that was when Xinik was having problems (i think he was at work) about missed pick and trade just didn't happen....Timing was spot on though. Joe took Mond next selection.
I was about to send you a trade offer. Tim didn't take it but you came fast. I'll get my bro now but good chance I trade with him.
Ok, got the fedora on... so, here's some stabs at it. It could be as simple as @TopDawg mentions. Saleh informed his former team that the Jets are going to select a certain player and San Fran decided to jump up knowing they had a definite selection at #3 overall. To nitpick at this just a touch - this is less of a gentlemen's agreement and more of a former employee helping out their former employer. There's nothing to be gained by the Jets giving up that info, but there is a great deal of value to that knowledge for the 49ers. While it's entirely possible, it feels like it may be the least likely of possible scenarios. Perhaps the 49ers know that the Jets are definitely taking Zach Wilson? This would mean the 49ers were able to go up and get another passer from their preferred options knowing for sure that Zach is off the table. In this situation, SF would either have multiple passers rated equally, or they have another arm ranked higher than Zach. This would again circle back to TD's suggestion, which means the Jets gain nothing by giving the 49ers this info. What if the Jets have multiple suitors for that pick and are looking to shake up the market to try and move the bidding war forward? If that's the case, then letting the 49ers know they are moving the #2 overall for a price that is higher than what they may have offered could have triggered the immediate jump by SF. It ensures that the 49ers are getting one of the top 3 options at passer, while also pressing the other suitors for the #2 pick to increase their offer or else watch the 49ers take the passer they want. Right now, anyone that is completely sold on one of the quarterbacks not named Trevor Lawrence is pulling out all the stops to try and jump into that pick the Jets hold. The asking price for that pick just went up, thanks to San Francisco locking in a passer at #3. If Matt Rhule is definitely looking to move on from Bridgewater then this move by San Fran has turned that pick into a hostage situation. lol Or, a side thought lingering underneath the hat... The 49ers just started the death of the market for Sam Darnold by removing themselves from the equation. Now, the bidding war has one less gun involved. If you're the Football Team, do you trade your second round pick for Sam or do you hold tight and see if Kyle Trask, or maybe a falling Mac Jones ends up in a spot you can move into? Same question for the Panthers, but I got this feeling that they are locked into either Lance or Fields. Finally, it could be as simple as the 49ers being comfortable with drafting any of 3 available passers so it doesn't matter what the Jets do, in which case no one whispered anything to anyone. Which means I put this fucking hat on for nothing...
Tim so essentially you said a whole lot of everything about a whole lot of nothing because anything could have happened.
