I think this is a very good move by the Bills, yet another one by Beane. When you consider the tiny cap hit its a borderline great move tbh. There is zero threat of any kind of QB controversy/competition but if Allen did miss some time you've now got a big upgrade to your insurance policy. Quite why Trubisky went for it tho is a little baffling. I can only think he looked at the development of Allen's game from frankly not looking great early on, to stellar now and hopes he can get some of that coaching. Maybe his market wasn't as expected. His time in Chicago had obvs run its course, but i would've thought there were numerous teams out there that provided better opportunities to start/get PT.
Im kinda thinking what Dan eluded to, he couldnt land a starters gig, so he took the back up roll in Buffalo for just 1 year. This will give him a good shot at another contract/team next season elsewhere where he can possibly land a starters gig. Mitch isnt real bad per say.... he just needs the right system, in my opinion. For right now, he's going to be one of the better clip-board holders in the NFL.
The coaching along with the continuous need for development are great points for why Trubisky chose the Bills. After their rookie campaigns both Darnold and Allen were compared by some reporter. In a nutshell, the two AFCE foes were deemed too close to know who’d have a better career. (To be fair, the reporter had kind things to say about both - in a cautious way.) Allen vs. Darnold? That seems almost ridiculous now. I think it highlights why some teams have such futility for years searching for their franchise qb. It may be reason why NO has been a magnet for maligned vets. I’m not stating anything profound - but I think Ev’s comment put the spotlight on the importance of the structure around a player. Ultimately that may be more important than his stats and combine performance.
It does astound me that I’m expressing such superlatives about the Bills. It is very recent history when Buffalo suffered its 17th consecutive non-playoff season. Fans of every downtrodden team should take heart in this.
Thirteen lawsuits have been filed against Deshaun Watson Monday has brought a slew of new lawsuits accusing Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson of sexual misconduct. The number stood at seven when the day began, but, per multiple reports, has risen to 13 cases on Friday afternoon. Houston lawyer Tony Buzbee said last week that he had 12 clients ready to proceed with suits and that he’d spoken to 10 other women with similar accounts about Watson’s alleged misconduct while receiving massages. Monday’s filings included an allegation of misconduct from this month and the others are all from the last year. Watson has denied the accusations and his attorney called them “meritless” while saying further response would come this week. The NFL has opened an investigation into the allegations against Watson. Eagles sign Joe Flacco Joe Flacco has found his new NFL home, and it’s close to his hometown. Flacco has signed with the Eagles, his agent announced. It’s a homecoming for Flacco, who grew up in Audubon, New Jersey, not far from Philadelphia. It’s also a sign that the Eagles wanted a veteran backup who will mentor Jalen Hurts. Although the Eagles haven’t definitively stated that Hurts is their starter for 2021, it seems likely that Hurts will start and Flacco will back him up. The 36-year-old Flacco started four games for the Jets last season and eight games for the Broncos the year before. Prior to that he played for the Ravens from 2008 to 2018. NBC
Jimmy Garoppolo’s future likely won’t be in San Francisco With the 49ers making a bold move up the 2021 draft board from No. 12 to No. 3, all signs point to coach Kyle Shanahan coveting one of the top quarterbacks — and being comfortable having two of them go before he picks. If, as it appears, the 49ers gave up the 12th overall pick, two future first-round picks, and third-round pick for a quarterback, it means that Jimmy Garoppolo and his $25 million compensation package for 2021 will be gone. Barring a steep pay cut and an understanding that he’s simply keeping the seat warm for the rookie, Garoppolo will be traded or released. Barring a steep pay cut to facilitate a trade, Garoppolo will be released. We posed the question of whether Garoppolo eventually will be cut last month. We also explained that G.M. John Lynch said what he had to say when he said he has “no doubt” that Garoppolo will be the starter. Look for the 49ers to try (unsuccessfully) to sell the idea that Garoppolo will remain in place, in order to build some trade leverage. Unless they can find a trade partner or get Jimmy to take less, Jimmy likely will be gone. And then he’ll be free to sign with any other team. Like maybe the Patriots. NBC
This means they don't see much of a difference between Zach Wilson and Justin Fields, but see a rather large difference between them and Trey Lance or Mac Jones.
Is Chris Grear a genius or did he just luck into this situation? He moved down 3 spots, picked up a 2021 3rd round pick, a 2023 1st round pick, knowing that their 3rd overall pick will be a QB, which they aren't in the market for. So, in my estimation.. Top (3) players, imho are Penei Sewell OT to protect your QB's blind side, Ja'Marr Chase WR to improve your QB's ability for success or Kyle Pitts TE who would do a little of both.
Chris Grier is the son of Bobby Grier, longtime Pats scout/coach and the only NFL rep to call Lloyd Carr at Michigan regarding Tom Brady. His brother is Mike Grier, longtime F in the NHL that retired about 10 years ago and played on my brother's Squirt team back in the day.
His brother is Mike Grier, longtime F in the NHL that retired a bout 10 years ago and played on my brother's Squirt team back in the day. COOL.....I remember Mike Greir.......he played for the Edmonton Oilers but he never won the "Cup"......and Dan will remember him he was a Buffalo Sabre as well.....your brother played with him in Pee-Wees ???
The way it works in the states is that youth hockey is broken down in 2 year increments starting with mites, then squirts, peewees, bantams and finally midget. After that it’s juniors or ncaa.
Mike Grier remains to this day an extremely popular Sabre. There’s nothing good to say about the Sabres. But we do have great memories.
There’s nothing good to say about the Sabres. But we do have great memories. I do NOT understand what is going on .....is it Coaching...is it the Player's....is it the Fucking Venue's. They are God Awful Dan and it's sad to watch....I like the Sabres because of the History with the Canucks.
The Sabres problems start at the very top. Ownership. Kim Pegula is justified in her position for one reason. And, one reason only. She married a really rich guy. She has almost single-handed killed the team. It started when she told Jason Botterill to trade Ryan O’Reilly. She was the reason why JB was axed a few weeks after saying he’d stay on. She then doubled down by firing a very good AHL coach, Chris Taylor. Then she tripled down by gutting the scouting staff. Kevyn Adams has finally been granted to restructure scouting to resemble what a modern NHL team does. Oh, and he gets to hire an Assistant GM. He is the ONLY one in the NHL that does not have a AGM; he who had zero management experience when he replaced JB. Just fucking ridiculous! Then they got thrown into the East Division that virtually assured them of not being able to make the playoffs. Then the NHL screwed them by saying they had to play - AFTER their opponent, NJ, had a couple of reported Covid cases. Naturally the team got shut down. The team has had virtually anything that could go wrong, go wrong. But, they deserved this due to Kim Pegula’s malfeasance. IT SUCKS WHEN YOUR TEAM IS NO LONGER A MERE LAUGHINGSTOCK. NO, IT’S WORSE: NOW NHL FANS EVERYWHERE LITERALLY TAKE PITY ON THE SABRES. I don’t want pity! But I understand why we get it.
