Week 19: Divisional Playoff ~ Browns @ Chiefs

I believe we can agree that KC falling behind by a TD or two won't rattle them, and that could give us some rope.

Unless or until Cleveland is up by 3 scores, I don't know if it shakes them up. What I don't think they believe is that the Browns could actually kill clock and score, taking away the impact of their blitzgrieg attack.

We know they can score in under a minute, but if the Browns use 7 minutes to drive for a score, they're not going to get a lot of minutes to make up the difference.

    Are you listening God???

I would always defer, home or away, regardless of opponent. I like seeing my defense on the field first, and my preference would be to get it first in the second half.

Though I can see how against this particular opponent (KC), one could certainly make an argument that we should take the ball and try to score first if we win the toss....

    Y'all...

We beat Pittsburgh so badly that Ben Roethlisberger wept, Maurkice Pouncey quit football, and Colin Cowherd is openly questioning his irrational Browns hate.

    Pretty wild.

I don't want to hijack this thread about the Browns next big game, but @SAS last post got me thinking.

With Pouncey leaving, is Ben next? 2021 will be a continuation of their 2020 melt down with the $40M man at the helm.

I said after the regular season finale, I HOPE Ben plays, I would rather face him than the Steelers backups... turns out, it was a good thing. He only started completing passes after the 1st qtr when there were 3 quarters of garbage time. He can no longer do anything under pressure and it isn't getting any easier with Pouncey retiring.

Can anyone tell me if Pouncey's pro-rated money still counts against the cap with retirement? I believe it does. I think he will still count $6.4M against the cap, but with retirement it will save the Steelers $8M.

With that, I think they are still about $13M over the cap and have 27 free agents, including Bud Dupree, Alejandro Villanueva, Tyson Alualu, Juju Smith-Schuster, James Connor and Joshua Dobbs. Dobbs isn't as big a deal...unless Ben retires...

Ben retiring would get them under the cap and they could go into rebuild mode. I really think that would be the smart play for Pittsburgh. Get Ben's money off the books and move on. I honestly believe they have a better offense without him in the lineup.

How much fun would that be? Unfortunately, we can’t think about that today.

1-0, that’s the only focus! This team just needs to get to 1-0 in the 2021 AFC Divisional playoff. Nothing else matters.

I think KCs barely winning is by design and I do think they have spent most of the season being bored. Can the Browns beat them? Yes anyone can beat anyone its been proven time and time again but I think KC wins without much trouble. That is not a knock on the Browns though I am sure most of their fans will take it that way.

There's another way to describe "barely winning by design", and that is: playing with fire.

The Chiefs played with fire and won twice in last year's postseason. It takes a lot of heart. But you're inviting danger if that becomes part of the plan. Personally, I do not buy into the notion that they keep things close on purpose. I think that we have lost sight of the fact that they are not a vastly superior talent that can afford to toy with others. They are a very good team with a great QB, and they're well coached.

But the aura can wear off; especially if there's any truth to the suggestion that they've grown bored. That boredom is a big step towards complacency. Complacency will kill a team's deep-down "we will win" desire to overcome any obstacle. If anything, Cleveland is the team that has dusted themselves off the mat regularly this season.

KC is the favorite for good reason; Cleveland can definitely win, though.

No doubt that the challenge is as tough as it gets, but I still get the sense that the Browns are playing with a huge chip on their shoulder. Let's face it, jeanquev isn't the only one that thinks Kansas City rolls Cleveland today. Just turn on any football talk radio or TV program and you'll hear it over and over. Just look at the Las Vegas line, 10 points! This is when Baker is at his best. When he feels that lack of respect. We'll see what happens. I really believe that the Browns are primed for the upset of the mighty Chiefs. Cleveland has nothing to lose and they are playing confident team football. I expect to see Stefanski open it up and keep the throttle down. Wouldn't be surprised if we saw some trickery, like a Landry pass attempt, or fake kick of some sort. We can't beat them with FG's, and we can't hand the ball to Mahomes, so I'm expecting us to go for it on 4th down much more than usual, as long as we are reasonably close to midfield or better....Im also expecting a big day from Garrett. As he himself said earlier this week, he's due. Can't wait to get this one started. Biggest Cleveland game in decades. I'm fired up!

We have a "closest score" contest at the local pub I frequent. My prediction was Browns 45, Chiefs 42....

    GO BROWNS!!!

I think people are over thinking NFL talent level. Every NFL team has professional talent level. The ones that get to the playoffs perennially have that and coaching that allow the mental toughness to shine above.

The best QBs to play the game have a very limited amount of Super Bowl experience.

    The top considered QBs:
Dan Marino only made it to the playoffs in 10 seasons, never winning a Super Bowl 13%

John Elway only made it to the playoffs in 10 seasons and waited until his final two seasons to win his two Super Bowls. 13%

Peyton Manning in his 18 year career won 2 of the 4 Super Bowls he went to, and only missed the playoffs 3 times in those 18 years and 1 was due to his neck injury in which he didn’t play. 22%

Brett Favre only went to 2 Super Bowls in 20 seasons and he made the playoffs only 12 times. 10%

Joe Montana made the playoffs 12 out of 16 years winning all 4 Super Bowl appearances. 25%

Tom Brady is the most prolific playoff QB of all time making the playoffs every season except the injury season he had in his career. That’s 20 out of 21 seasons, going to 9 Super Bowls and winning 6 of them. 43%

So, with only one QB in the Super Bowl era having more than 25% success at Super Bowl appearances, why is everyone so convinced that the Chiefs are bound to win each game handily based on the fact they have Mahomes?

If history tells us anything, it’s very difficult to sustain expectations.

This is the playoffs baby, anything can happen.
