Im wondering if any team from the NFC will be able to compete with whatever team comes out of the AFC come SB time.

    I highly doubt it.

Ask the New York Giants that before they beat the 16-0 Patriots.

It might not have been as close as the scoreboard suggested but a banged up and rusty Saints team hung with the Chiefs. Then there are the Packers who haven't looked dominant but have looked good.

Funny, I never heard of any good guys going 18-0. The best I ever seen good guys go is 17-2 in 78-79 and 17-0 in 1972
And that isn’t where my 72 comes from. I wore #72 when I played football.

    I kinda suspected that, Gid.

Me? I wore #50 (Vince Costello) in Middle School as a Guard/Linebacker. Then, I grew about 6" taller and my high school coaches moved me to TE/DE. Both of my older brothers wore #88 before me so, once I was moved to TE, it was a forgone conclusion that I would wear #88.

i bet it was some high quality H2O!!

As I’m sure everyone can guess, I wore 42. No significance whatsoever. In Little League we were just handed numbers and that’s what I got. I was lucky enough to wear it in baseball and football pretty much my whole life.

When I started peewee football 72 was the number they gave me. Always wanted that number. Had to trade something for it one season. I think I got number 76 from someone else and then traded it for 72. The guy said he would only give it up for 76. I think the coach handed me 75 I think and the guy that got 76 after me took 75 from me so I could get 72. The coach was acting like a jerk and just giving people numbers that he felt like giving instead of letting us pick our own numbers. I think the coach thought because I was a Steelers fan that I would want Joe Greens number, while I was a big fan of Green I still wanted my own number.

Should have been the 15-1 Patriots, due to a phantom timeout call after Ray Lewis stomped Brady on 4th down, but that is history :)

In Hockey as a Youngster I always skated my ass off to wear #9.......Gordie Howe was my Hero.....but never got to wear it.....because every other kid wanted #9

In Baseball I was # 2 ....Back Catcher.......I wanted to be Yogi.

    Football I was # 27 a Wide Receiver.

Soccer I was # 4 and played Center Back..........good sport and tough to score a goal.

I still don't know how they won some of those games. I believe the Eagles and at least another team had them too until it got weird.

The Ravens game was the only one they should have lost iirc. A couple close games in the mix but that’s about it, NYG end of the regular season comes to mind.
The thing that I remember most were the masses crying and whining that the Pats were winning by too much. The entire notion of that is so absurd.

They were running up the score in most of their games in chase of records in an era when teams always brought in their backups and laid off the gas when it was out of hand. And the 3 games were the Ravens, Eagles and Giants that were close but the Ravens one had the most controversy.

  18. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

Saying that the the 2007 Patriots were running up the score in most of their games in chase of records is a false narrative. Bill Belichick does not take out starters and had to answer to talking heads about this over and over. Was true before 2007 and has been true since 2007. If the other professional team can't stop the offense that is clearly their own problem and whining about it is beyond embarrassing. As I remember the whining came mostly from reporters so it doesnt even matter at all. False narratives surrounding the Patriots is certainly nothing new.

looking back at the results the only regular season games that were close in score were against the Colts, Ravens, Giants and Eagles. Would like to hear more on your assertion about how the game against the Eagles "got weird".

By rights, as a Bills fan, I think I’ve earned max-butthurt points vs. the Pats. NE has just OWNED Buffalo this millennium.

But that’s not my take. I don’t like it, but I marvel at that team’s dynasty. It lasted about three times longer than most dynasties - even more impressive in the cap era.

I just cannot understand the hate. They were a team * that will be remembered long after we’re gone. Respect - that’s what they earned from me.

(* Mercifully, that dynasty has been relegated to history.)

On the other hand, the football team from Miami ...
