Watched the game on a bit of delay. Just stopping in for some quick thoughts on the team as a whole: 1) This offensive line is horrendous. I mean, may-keep-us-from-any-postseason-success horrendous. Wow. And they're the only part of this offense that's consistent, sadly. We've asked the question, "Why can't this team run well?". Besides Nagy's playcalling, the answer is that this OL just can't block. There is absolutely an element of scheme / play design to it, but they're also just not good. 2) Nagy needs to give up playcalling duties. End of story. There is no case to be made that he just doesn't have the pieces available to be successful. Sure, the OL is bad, but either they're THAT bad and Pace needs to be fired, or they're bad and Nagy just isn't adjusting well enough. They threw up the "zero points in third quarter" stat, and what that says to me is, "This coach can't adjust". Nagy just gets in his way all the time (see multiple red zone drives today). 3) Why wasn't there safety help for Johnson? Frankly, I thought he had a fine game - some rookie mistakes, and he was beat by speedy receivers, but he played well enough in moments to have a positive impact on the game. But he was getting beat either over the top, or underneath because he was cheating the cushion. So why not give him some more safety help? Clearly the defense did a fine job, but I remember watching them line up and saying, "They're gonna throw at Johnson, Gipson is going to play the deep middle, and the rookie won't have any help". And that's what happened. So if I can see it... 4) The front 7 keeps getting bullied in the run game. Week after week. And eventually someone steps up and makes a big play, or they shut down the run because they commit to it, but it's frustrating seeing them get gashed. I'm going to believe that the talent is too good for them to have a consistently-exploitable weakness, and instead chalk it up to the usual ebbs and flows. This defense has had enough flow to warrant some faith. 5-1. My son keeps saying, "The Bears are good!", and I keep replying, "Maybe!".
I have a seven year old. I constantly have to listen to rap songs from television shows made for children. I would consider Christian rap... well, a blessing, at this point.
If you take Bridgewater’s scrambles out the Panthers ran for 64 yards on 21 carries and a touchdown. Can’t really look at that result and say it’s bad. Davis started the game with 8 carries for 40 yards but finished with 10 carries for 12 yards. This defense isn’t world beating. But it’s good.
Bridgewater entered today’s game with a QB rating over 100 and only 3 picks. Bears defense picked him off twice, sacked him 4 times, and held him to a 55 rating.
Bucs absolutely dominant performance on defense against the Peckers. The day ends with the Beloved all alone atop the NFC North standings.
He’s not getting beat a lot. He is getting beat at times. All DB’s do. He is a reliable if not spectacular player. Bears lead the league in QB comp % against he is part of that. In a league where you can never have enough good DB’s I’ll take him at his price.
I seem to like guys who aren't liabilities when they're on the field. You don't need to be an all pro to make a play. I don't recall Bryce Callahan being an all-pro, and he could help in the run and defend the pass. Its apparent that Skrine cannot do the latter. Yes, DBs give up plays, nobody is perfect. But as I pointed out, Skrine plays half the downs JJ and Fuller do and he gets targeted at a far higher rate. He's surrendered huge plays. That isn't by chance Rob. I'm sure you know that when teams game plan during the week before their games--they identify opposing teams' weaknesses and try to exploit them. Hint: Skrine in pass protection is a weakness. And I stand by calling him garbage. Last week, Robert Quinn being manhandled and invisible in 1 on 1's and the piss-poor tackling took a front seat in regards to defensive problems. Skrine still got beat, he still got targeted, but sure--you can have the opinion he had a good game. In comparison to the ILBs and Quinn explicitly yeah, I guess you can say he was good. I don't take this shit personally, so no offense taken. I can dish it and take it and assume you can--but if not, let me know and I'll dial it back. I'm not painting you as a Skrine fan. I will paint you as a halfway decent board contrarian because usually you play devil's advocate and I can mostly follow your logic (and oft agree). But this one? Sorry bro...You're picking a bad hill to die on insinuating he's not as bad as what everybody's eyes tell them. And to think I almost turned it off because Green Bay went up 10-0 immediately and I figured they'd be the ones blowing Tampa out. Tampa's DLine ate them alive. Suh chirping to Rodgers' almost every play was fantastic. And I hate Suh.
Brothers. I give up on buster fucking Skrine. Fuck him. I don’t think he is that horrible but he isn’t that fucking great either and I wouldn’t bat an eyelash if he were to be replaced so let’s move on. Bears are 5-1. Let’s enjoy it and not argue. I’m drunk on wet willies call a cabs and just enjoying life. We all should. Here’s to all of you Bears fans. Love you guys!!!!
Call a cab is a frozen fruit punch made with grain alcohol. Very tasty and pack a punch. I’m case you were wondering. Nobody mentioned how fucking great it was for the viqueens to get embarrassed again. Pack and Vikes embarrassed on the same day. Love it!!!!!!
Someone do a post day thoughts thread tomorrwo, but right now my thoughts are just one: Nagy is lucky he has a defense to bail his ass out. Of all the questionable shit in this game, garbage clals, whatever, you have the ball with a 1:45 and you run twice and then decide to fucking PASS the ball for a 2 yard FD and give them the extra timeout? MONTY GOT FUCKING 7 YARDS ON HIS FIRST CARRY WHEN THEY WERE GEARED TO STOP IT. It's not like it was 3rd and 8, it was 3rd and fucking 2. I know the run game uskcs but Jonathan Villma (who's not a bad announcer btw) is sitting there saying "YOU RUN THE BALL". fucking crhist amighty. Then Teddy GIFTS us the fucking game with that horrible pass, and great on the bears D for capitalizing. They get the game fucking ball. They have their warts and all but there are still good not elite, and good is fucking good enough if asshat could learn how to call a fucking game. This game, as welll said pregame, screamed run the fucking ball. and what do we do? air fucking mail express. I'm a bit surprised the box score says it was only 60/40 pass/run. 5-1 is 5-1 and the Pecker getting their ass handed to them? You better believe Im' rewatching that shit. outstanding. that's all one thought, fuck you. go bears!
Credit that interception to the defensive line and that Teddy couldn't make a solid throw. Again I only caught the last quarter and when I do that they win. The only game I watched in its entirety was their only loss.
