At team that reminds me of the "Kardiac Kids" Hopefully the defense can cover the all the WR/TE/RB's in patterns long enough for the DL to keep ben rattled and holding the ball too long. If the offense can put together long sustained drives and keep Ben off the field the Browns can put this one away. Philly exposed the holes in the run D for pit. (they really haven't faced a solid running team yet). The Browns just need to learn how to start stepping on their opponents throats and finish games off. Should be a slobberknocker for sure. Time to end that 16-game losing streak at Heinz Field...
The latest injury report doesn't inspire confidence. RG Wyatt Teller is - OUT Safety Ronnie Harrison is - OUT (concussion protocol) Safety Karl Joseph is - OUT LB Jacob Phillips is - OUT Ogungobi, Landry, Mayfield, Beckham, Vernon and Gillan are Questionable.
Lmao! Are you serious?? The Steelers shut down some of the best RBs in the league! Saquon Barkley. Melvin Gordon. David Johnson. All shut down completely! They let Philly have one big run then they did absolutely nothing in the run game the rest of the game. Sanders had the 74 yard TD and 10 other carries for 6 yards! So what “holes” did they expose? Sorry, but Hunt isn’t going to beat the Steelers. Mayfield better play a heck of a game because I highly doubt the running game is gonna get it done for the Browns!
The only holes that were exposed is if the refs are making bogus calls. The Steelers opposition haven’t had a holding penalty called on them all season. Which is ridiculous if you watch any five minutes of our defense in any game Watt is being held on almost every play. They called a couple of very questionable PIs on our defense and brought back a TD by Claypool that was a very obvious blown call. So Philadelphia got lucky with the refs. Don’t see that happening two weeks in a row.
I Agree that Saquon Barkley (NYG), Melvin Gordon (DEN) and David Johnson (HOU) are among the better RB's in the league. Unfortunately, they all play on three of the worst running teams in the NFL: HOU - 84.6 yds/game [30th] NYG - 79.0 yds/game [32nd] DEN - 92.5 yds/game [29th] PHI - 108.0 yds/game [18th] Now, I'm sure you're going to respond with, "playing against this Steelers' defense will result in those team rushing stats". While that may have contributed, what it really means is that every team those guys played against has shut them down. It's a shame your game against the Titans turned into a bye. They average 131.5 rushing yds/game [9th]. Wanna guess who's #1 ??? Spoiler CLE - 188.4 yds/game. and they did that against (team rushing defense): IND - 86.4 yds/game [3] BAL - 92.0 yds/game [5]
I hate that this game comes on the same time as the Ravens. I actually wanted to watch this game from start to finish. Also, saying the Steelers run defense was exposed because of one long run is a reach. Their pass defense is their true weakness imo. The question is can Baker expose it without being exposed himself. Stefanski has done a good job of protecting Baker, but he'll need to sling it this week. On the other side, Ben vs Myles will be interesting. How Cleveland defends the Steelers pass game will likely determine the game
I thought the Browns were contenders before today and I still do. When Chubb comes back he will make them better. I picked the Steelers to win but not like they did but I won't complain.
That sucked, but more importantly, can Stefanski put things right, so we don't allow the Bengals to start a chorus of "same old Browns"? This is his first test IMO.
This one is not on Stefanski. This one is totally on the players. Zero execution damn near the entire game. And don't give me the "it's Stefansi's job to coach execution and motivate the team" bullshit. These are highly paid professionals who should know by now how to do their job. And if a player needs to be motivated to the play the Steelers, then he shouldn't be a Cleveland Brown.
Agreed, I won't blame the coach for the lack of execution, and desire. The Brown's didn't come to play today. They let the Stoolers push them around all day long.
I won't put it on Stephanski. It was definitely a collective effort. (or lack there of) That said, IMO the play calling lacked the usual creativity, and you really have to coach your QB to adjust his cadence when they are jumping the snap count like that. Good lord, that was totally ridiculous. TJ Watt and Bud Dupree were in our backfield before Baker could find the laces. They were just timing him up and boom, the play was over before it got started. It was awful by everyone in our organization, including Stephanski....K.S. said before the game that Baker was uncomfortable from the injury he took the previous week, and that it was imperitive for us to keep him clean on Sunday for us to have any chance for success. So why was he left in the game? We obviously weren't able to protect him in any way. Mayfield just got brutalized for 3 quarters. It was hard to watch....
Browns in wins this year: 150 - 111 (+9.75 PDpG) Browns in losses this year: 13 - 76 (-31.5 PDpG) An inconvenient truth is that our defense is one of the league's worst, and I'm not going to blame injuries on that. We continue to start #23 despite being easily the worst safety in the game. We just don't have the horses to run on that side of the ball. I'm not putting the Steeler loss all on the defense, of course. #6 has to play remarkably better to compete and needs help from the other 10 guys out there. He didn't get much of that yesterday and he picked a pretty rotten day to have one of his worst as a pro. Congrats to the Steelers' fans on just a *dominant* game yesterday.
I know James Conner enjoys seeing the orange and brown defense. We have never stopped him. It's like when Jamal Lewis was with Baltimore. He'd see the Browns on the field and just light it up....JC has been the same way through his career so far. SMH.....
It was ugly all day, but I'm not sure any QB could have been effective against that kind of immediate pressure. It was like they were in our playbook. No different than watching Charlie Frye or Brady Quinn or name any Browns QB that has played in that building. Yesterday was very similar to what happened to us in week 1 at Baltimore. Browns clearly not ready to challenge for this division yet. Still plenty to play for though, including a potential playoff run. Just chalk this one up to experience (horrifying as it was), and get ready for the next game. As Bill Belichick once said, "We're on to Cincinnati..."
I wholeheartedly agree with @SAS. Andrew Sendejo (#23) has no business playing Safety in the NFL. Likewise, Terrance Mitchell (#39) has no business playing CB. Both of them should be coaching high school ball in Florida at the side of Todd Haley. The good news is that the front office recognized this and drafted Grant Delpit and Greedy Williams. Unfortunately, they're both on I/R. I may have been a bit premature in declaring our O-line fixed. Granted, we were missing Wyatt Teller but they were missing David DeCastro. That didn't seem to bother the Steelers one iota. (hint: DeCastro > Teller) Bill Calahan has his work cut out for him. Prepare to shun me . . . I don't think we finally have our Franchise Quarterback. We had our pick of the litter in 2018 and I'm thinking maybe we picked the wrong pup. He's now in his 3rd year and hasn't improved his game against upper echelon teams. The "no supporting talent" excuse was removed last year and the "shitty coaching" excuse was fixed this year. It's now year three and he still looks similar to how he looked in year one (minus the TD's).
No shunning, just looking at circumstances. I'm not saying he's the right guy for Cleveland or the wrong guy, but in his 2+ seasons, Baker has had 4 head coaches and 3 different offensive systems....As a rookie, he set the NFL record for TD passes in spite of Hue Jackson keeping him on the bench for the first 2+ games.... Clearly he took a step back in year 2 under the misquidance of Freddie Kitchens, but now Baker has the Browns at a respectable 4-2, in his 3rd season, and before we ran into the buzzsaw yesterday, we were averaging 37 points per week. Unheard of by Cleveland standards..... We haven't exactly been the model of stability for a young signal caller....I see plenty of reasons to remain optimistic about Mayfield. He's still 10x better than any other QB we've had since #19.
