Maybe so. But D Jones got his ass kicked in college all the time, so maybe they think he can handle a continual beating
The Hog Mollie thing is all bluster. Look at how the man actually operates not what he says. He HATES to use early picks on O-line. Hernandez at 34 overall is the highest pick he has ever spent on it. He believe in using mid round picks and developing them and signing free agents when that plan leaves you with a massive hole. He is looking at UDFA Nick Gates who played well in a small sample size as an answer at one of his positions. Hog Mollies on the defensive line? That he really loves. There is a small part of me that thinks Getty is staying at the office late at night trying to figure out how to justify taking Derrick Brown... It's not that hard. Leo on the tag for a year, Tomlinson coming to the end of his contract. Take Brown and then either let Leo walk next year or try and move Tomlinson at the trade deadline. Like these are seriously the things I have to worry about with this man as the GM.
This brings me back to my own scouting of Daniel Jones, and his son will recall I was fairly high on him comparatively. One of the things that was sad on tape was just how many drops his receiver sad. Some games he got no help at all, and they didn’t have much of a running game, so the fact he pulled off 60+ percent completions with that group might be part of the reason the Giants felt comfortable with him
I mentioned it in another thread (maybe in 'random opinion') that where I probably was too light on scoring Jones was with his awareness, specifically his ability to remain patient and simply take what the defense will give him. It's a pretty good trait to have as a young passer to start your career with. A lot of guys never learn it. However, as with all early career players, I'll wait a couple more seasons to see how he develops before I put any ink down in either column.
Yeah I am trying to be patient with my judgement on him and not fly off the handle either way. He had a pretty good year for a rookie with some areas of major concern mixed in. It feels like I may have undershot what his potential ceiling might be. I'm just not sure how likely I think it will be that he hits a ceiling higher than I originally thought he had.
I am trying. I want to learn from my evaluations more than I want to be right about anything. Except Mahomes. I pretend I knew exactly what I was doing with that one =P
I just announced my big, earth-shaking FA signing on the FA thread. Just for kicks I'm announcing it here too... Falcons hire/sign California offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave to the offensive coaching staff. This year I don't even have to trade a draft pick to get him!
The Cleveland Browns select: Andrew Thomas, OT - Georgia P.S. I think I'll issue him jersey #73 so the fans can recycle some of their old gear.
