69/70 was special to me. I was really getting into sports. I was a Red Wings and Bruins fan and would listen to them on the radio with WBZ Boston and WJR Detroit, 2 of the US's best ever radio stations and I continue to listen to both till this very day.

I used to listen to Johnny Most on WBZ call the Celtics games also... back when B-Ball was good. I miss those days, but what great memories. I may have been a fan of the NHL before a few of you were even born, lol.

Great rivalries in those days between the Red Wings and Maple Leafs, Blackhawks, Rangers, Bruins and the Habs. I think of the original 6, the Rangers were my least favorite, lol, but they all had good teams back in the day. The St,Louis Blues came on the seen (KMOX) and the Hartford Whalers and I remember the expansion to the West and Canadian teams also.

Used to collect NHL players cards. Would line them up on my moms piano, grab a cassette player and call make-believe games between my favorite teams and would also write the stats in notebooks. I wanted to be a Hockey or Baseball broadcaster since day 1. Sure wish I had some of those old tapes... that would be a trip.

Anyway, thanks Matty for posting that Bobby Orr clip, it brought back some great memories from an era where sports were full of class and players had respect for one another... great stuff.

 

Thanks, Matty. One can never tire of watching Orr. The fact that they had him speaking about those days is a real added bonus.

Will, your comments made me think ... well, it made me think of me in the late 60’s and my pre-Sabres innocence. Believe it or not, I rooted for the hockey team from Boston then. Bobby Orr. That’s my defense, and a damned good defense at that!

 

50 years ago today Orr hit 100 pts. amazing how he more than doubled the previous number of points any Dman had ever had in NHL history.

Well here, Matty. Hope you and family are doing well. Stay safe.

 

So far so good on my end Will.......knock on wood.
This has actually given me a ton of time to do things around the house. I built a privacy fence on my deck, split a bunch of wood, stained the swing set, blah blah blah. I feel like things will be more difficult over the next few weeks, Massachusetts isn’t on lockdown but there are rumblings that it will happen soon.

Ive done a lot of stuff around the house also, because, frankly, there isn't much else to do. We start our 'stay home' orders tonight at mid-night... only to go out if absolutely necessary. Ive got my food, meds and all my toys are home, so ima deal with it the best I can.

Glad to hear everyone's doing alright, so far. The fiance' and I have been working full time from home, and her six year old has been home since school is cancelled for at least the next month. So if anything, I've had less free time to work with...

I'm one who would be at high risk with this virus, so I haven't left the house. Fiance' has been doing so sparingly. Sadly, every damn thing you could need was panic-bought locally weeks ago. We've got enough to get us through another week, so I'm sure things will be re-stocked, but the general population's stupidity is just so damn dangerous...

Hahaha, very kind of you, friend. And very perceptive, well done. It's not really official yet - we had a trip planned to Ireland next month, but that's not going to happen any more. Someone in her family let it slip that I spent the day with her parents recently (asking their blessing), which she knows I would never do voluntarily, so that confirmed her suspicions.

But even though the element of surprise is gone, we're doing our best to pretend like she doesn't know anything. I'm thinking of something in the Fall, maybe a cabin in the mountains. We're from Florida, so a few orange and red leaves is all we really need. Here's to things being relatively back to normal, by then.

My wife is from Westport, County Mayo. We were married there and have seen every corner and all 40 shades of green. So we have!

We got engaged in Venice. If things ever get reeeeallly slow here, I can recount the tale of that proposal.
