Brady is now removed from the Patriots' roster and only resides in the free agent pool.
His $6,750,000 Dead Money has been included on the Summary Sheet.

 

How do I get access to the spreadsheet? The roster lock and the current OTC are showing different amounts so I want to make sure I am working from the "official" starting point.

 

The roster lock data (provided) is the "official" starting point. Last year @Tim provided Google Spreadsheets for all 32 teams. With everything on his plate this year, he simply didn't have the time to provide that detail. We (the advance team) did the best we could do to, at least, provide the base roster lock data.

I'm guessing any difference you find between the static roster lock data provided and the dynamic OTC data is probably the "Rookie Draft Pool Accrual" value included in the Roster Lock spreadsheet. Even though the numbers used for this accrual also come from OTC, they don't include it in their "real time" cap space calculation because they haven't actually taken place yet.

If you still think there is an error in the roster lock spreadsheet, there is a provision in the GMO rules to challenge this number.

 

It's small enough that I don't even care to figure out where the difference is from. If I can't figure out how to make this work with 70 million instead of 72 million I probably shouldn't be GMing this exercise. Anyhow I just pulled my data fresh off your document posted here and will go from there. Thanks!

 

No problem. If the difference you're seeing is only $2M - then I can almost guarantee the difference is the rookie draft pool accrual.

Question, and forgive me if this is a stupid one but this is my first year doing this, Kyle Long is still listed on the Bears roster on overthecap but he is now retired.....do I just cut him for the cap savings or how does that work?

 

The only stupid question is the one not asked.

It appears he still shows on OTC because his contract is tied to the real life league year. He does have some dead money showing but the Cap savings shown takes that into account.

 

Presumably the Bears will place Long on the reserve-retired list in real life. From a cap perspective it has the same effect as cutting him (everything but the singing bonus amortization comes off) but they would retain his rights if he decides to come back.

 

There are bound to be plenty of cases like Brady or Long. The trick to it is that OTC won't make the moves like taking Brady off of New England's roster and updating the dead money until those things actually happen.

So as of right now, the spreadsheets are accurate - but it certainly helps for all of us to be aware of those situations on our rosters because those voids / cap hits from bogus contract years are set in stone.
