I think he went into that meeting assuming anything that was disclosed would remain private.

This seems very odd to me. He had almost a week to prepare for this meeting. Surely, he consulted with an attorney, the NFLPA and/or others about what he was going to say in his defense. Surely the NFLPA would have had access to all the audio from the game that the NFL had. If he had said to anyone on his side of this that Rudolph had used a slur, wouldn't they have gone through those recording themselves? If they didn't hear that slur, wouldn't they have advised him NOT to bring it up at the hearing? The only thing that makes sense is that he didn't tell anyone he was going to bring this up and he just did it out of desperation.

At the end of the day, I hope the audio emerges. If it's true that Rudolph did, in fact, invoke a racial slur, I hope the league suspends him and I hope the Steelers cut him. If not, Garrett's punishment should be even more severe because now not only did he risk the man's physical life with a ridiculous amount of poor judgement in the heat of the moment, he has thrown the man's reputation and integrity into question in what was a calculated slander in an attempt at self preservation!

If Rudolph used a racial slur and Garret got as mad as he did to rip the helmet off and smash Mason with it, wouldn't that have come out where everyone would have known during the brawl? Garret would have been screaming no one calls me the N word, you cracker, something on that line. Garret was out of his mind and didn't make a big deal about that during the melee? Nobody else heard it? No Garrett is full of crap.

This is one of the dumbest lies I've ever heard. He really expects us to believe Mason called him a ****** and he didn't tell a single teammate? He didn't use it to defend himself all week? He issued a written apology to the guy who called him a ******?

What a bunch of bullshit. He should get another 6 games next year!

Yes he did which is why he didn't mention it all week. He wanted to use it to get a reduction in his suspension without anyone finding out (and calling him on his BS).

    A) The race card should never have been an appropriate defense of the helmet swing, thus the suspension
    B) None of us know what happened in the melee.

Every one assumes that there were multiple microphones within earshot of the entire play. That is has been reported there is no evidence, doesn't mean it never happened. When Myles made the hit on Rudolph, there wasn't another player on the ground with the pair. Myles had him wrapped up and pulled him on top of him. Unless Rudolph screamed something, no one else would have heard it... It is possible that Rudolph's mic wasn't on or working during the tackle is all I am saying..

Let me re-iterate... EVEN IF he did say something, it doesn't excuse the using the helmet as a weapon.

I'm just not ready to shoot him for lying right now either...

For those that can't believe Myles wouldn't have said anything, you don't follow the Browns players close enough. He is one of the quietest players I have ever seen. His words were, "They got to go look at it, I'm not going to comment on it". I think he EXPECTED the evidence to be there. I always felt he isn't the type of person that would make this a public war against Rudolph, however, I also never thought he would swing a helmet at another player in ANY situation, so what do I know.

Bottom line is, he deserved his suspension for his actions...but none of us know exactly what happened over the course of that melee...

If Rudolph did call him something....I doubt he whispered it.

And if Garrett was that angry to attack Rudolph for saying something....he magically cooled down in the locker room and didn't tell a soul? Sorry....not buying that.

This is the same guy that took a swing at Delanie Walker this season (Walker wasn't innocent in that) and laughed about "choking out" an LSU tight end in college because the player held him. I don't buy the quiet, nice guy narrative even a little bit.

Prior to last Thursday night, every description of Myles Garrett - the person - were always positive. Terms like unassuming, giving, humble, community minded and, yes, honest were often included. Something triggered him to go off like he did. It could have been the attempt to rip his helmet off. It could have been getting kicked in the nuts. It could have been a racial slur that he claimed he heard. Most likely it was the cumulative effect of all three. So, why didn't he mention a racial slur prior to his private meeting with NFL officials? Isn't it possible he didn't want to try and justify his actions in public?

This will be my last comment on this topic. We play the Dolphins in two days so I am looking to see how the Browns team comes out for that one.

I think it's possible that Rudolph could have said something. I think it's possible Rudolph could have said something and Garrett heard something else entirely because he just misheard in all the excitement.

I don't think it's possible for Garrett to simply have kept it to himself until he met with the NFL. That's not plausible. He wouldn't have said anything to his agent? The team? His friends and teammates? No chance.

I'll be honest, I was trying to avoid replying to you because it seems that some Bears fans simply don't want to hear from Browns fans on these boards. I am not singling you out, as I'll be honest, I haven't been as active on here lately and I don't know which ones it is regularly feuding.

However, I agree 100% with your first two sentences.. It is absolutely possible Rudolph said something and Garrett mis-heard it.

The second part is what I take issue with...dis-allowing for the possibility of what occurred in the following days seems a little short sided, imho.

    1) Garrett left the field that night after the post game interview. To say there is no way he said nothing to anyone, is exactly what I meant by some people don't follow the Browns players close enough to know their tendencies. Myles Garrett most likely didn't speak to anyone after leaving that night besides his agent. It is very plausible that his agent advised him to not fight this behind the scenes or in the media. Myles Garrett is exactly the type of player that would take that sound advice.
    2) He was told that he would have an open forum at his appeal hearing that wouldn't be made public, honestly the fact it was leaked should be one of the questions being focused on here. Why would anyone want to say anything in these meetings, if they aren't going to be confidential?
    3) It has been reported that he addressed his teammates the next morning, apologized, spoke of his embarrassment and remorse, but didn't seem to give any details about the incident itself. It wasn't long into Friday that the suspension came down, so he would have had to leave the facility once that happened. He easily might have kept to himself in the days following the announcement of the suspension.

Myles doesn't say much as it is, so if he got advice to not discuss details, it is no wonder that no one knew about the allegation before the leak of the league office meeting for his appeal.

I've seen how black people act when someone white says something racially motivated against them. You can't talk any reasoning to them or shut them up from talking about it. If Rudolph said something racial to Garret why did he call the asshole coward who pushed him down from behind bitch. You would think at that trime he would have used another racial slur.

How well informed are you with how much Myles speaks to his friends, family, agent, teammates, and coaches?

You're calling out people for not knowing what actually happened while at the same time making up your own fictional narrative of what "most likely" happened.

Unless you were there....you know exactly as much as I do.

Apparently you don't know squat about black people. They freak out physically and verbally when someone uses a racial slur with them. If Rudolph called Garret a racial slur everyone in that stadium would have known before the ejections were announced.

Gid, I am not going to address
Fair enough, I should not have used the phrase most likely...but rather, possibly.

    Irony.

The NFL has reacted rather aggressively to uses of racial slurs the past decade.

I won't argue this any further because it's gonna run in circles....but I find none of this plausible and I think the excuses and spin being put on it by the resident homers here somewhat pathetic.

I actually hope Garrett isn't lying. And I hope some evidence backs him up. Because lying about something like that, in today's society, is almost criminal because it's gonna follow the accused whether there's evidence or not.
