BUCKLE UP BROWNS FANS!!! This is the season we've been waiting for

Chubb isn't careless with the ball. The one fumble I fault him for is the long run, where it was completely predictable that the defender would punch at the ball. I am far more critical of Baker's "pass". The play was blowing up, and should have been aborted, still, I'll admit that the scrum at the line of scrimmage is not easily read, but I'd like to have that one back.

The penalties. That's on Freddie, pure and simple. He has to do whatever it takes to eliminate the lack of disciplline. Now!

Disagree 100%. Both of Chubb's fumbles were caused by OUTSTANDING defensive play. On the first one, someone on the Pat's D-line knocked Bitonio so far back he ended up inverted and his foot kicked the ball out of Chubb's grip. The second was a text book strip sack from behind.

Should Chubb have had two arms around the ball on the first one? Absolutely. Don't know if even two arms would have held onto a ball kicked by a 300 lb , cartwheeling lineman.

Who calls for an inside pitch behind the LT who has had, maybe, 10 hours of practice reps with the 1st team? Freddie Kitchens. That's who.

Depends on the alternatives. At the time, I believe Gregggg Williams interviewed (but let's be real, that was never going to happen) and Mike McCarthy, of ex-Packers fame, who got to spend 12 of 13 years squandering Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay. I don't believe McCarthy ever got an interview.

Among the other interviews... Matt Eberflus, Brian Flores, Dan Campbell, Kevin Stefanski, Jim Caldwell, and Nick Sirianni. The job came down to Stefanski and Kitchens. With the exception of Gregggg Williams (that most believed to be a courtesy interview) and Jim Caldwell, none of the guys had head coaching experience.

The rumor at the time was Dorsey, who famously lost a power struggle with Andy Reid in Kansas City, did not want a veteran coach who could/would potentially have more sway in the building. Neither Gregggg or Caldwell have Andy Reid's resume, but nonetheless, they weren't finalists for the job.

So which one was the right answer?

Respectfully disagree (somewhat). IF Mayfield required a head patting, father confessor figure Head Coach to succeed at this level, then was Mayfield the right choice to begin with? I personally think Mayfield was the right choice, but, teaming him up with a new BFF wasn't in the best interest of either him or the Browns. I submit Baker would have been better off with a task master that forced him to give up his BMOC attitude and turn into a true professional athlete.

I’m not suggesting Baker needed anything of the sort.

I am suggesting that Freddie appeared to have a reasonable grasp of Mayfield’s strength and weaknesses last season so a baseline for what needed to be done in order to make Baker a more well rounded signal caller should have already been established.

That baseline should have been used as the foundation to build on in year two.

What the Browns have been doing on offense so far this season goes away from those strengths far too often and sets up unnecessary hurdles to clear. This team should be consistently in 3rd and manageable more often than not. You have a running back that can produce 3 or mor a clip in a cloud of dust, two receivers that excel in the short and intermediate and a passer that does as well.

Maybe there is an issue with the direction they are trying to take the offense internally. It could be that Kitchens, Monken and Dorsey all see it differently.

Whatever the case may be, I’m not seeing a progression in play calling from week to week so why have they not reverted to what worked last season?

It could be that defenses are giving looks that are forcing them into other options but hubris has to be considered as well.

Didn't get an interview and currently has Tampa sitting at... *checks notes* 2-5.

Agree 100%. "Should be" are they key words.

I'm not seeing progression in anything from week to week.

    Big man on campus?

Freddie got the job because of his relationship with Mayfield. Whatever Freddie did in those final eight weeks of 2018 resonated and Mayfield blossomed overnight from struggling rookie to Top 5 performer at the position.

What Freddie hasn't done this year is show any of that same rapport and guidance.

We can have debates all day whether he's taking on too much as head coach (I believe he is), whether he let Todd Monken have too much say in offensive philosophy (I believe he did), and whether Steve Wilks was the right hire at defensive coordinator (jury is out) -- but I think it's far too early to say he was the wrong hire and definitely far too early to begin thinking about his replacement.

(Disclaimer: unless Lincoln Riley is available.)

Yesterday was ugly A.F. but I still have hope for this team. We aren't ready for the Patriots, but I still think the Browns can be in the AFCN hunt all the way. As far as yesterday goes. It is amazing how horribly and quickly things unraveled. Physically we matched up, and even looked like the more powerful team at times, but there was never a question about which was the smarter team. The Patriots just took what we gave them and said thanks. It felt like we spotted them 17 points, and obviously there was no recovering from that. Cleveland played them tough after the early miscues, though the penalties and some of the decisions were ridiculous and aggravating. The Browns looked like anything but a team coming off of a bye week, though New England seems to make everybody look like that....Tough loss for a team that can't catch a break.

note: If the Browns play that sloppy next week in Denver, I'll likely join in on the heavy criticism of Freddie Kitchens. Joe Flacco looks like Joe Flacco this year, so we should be able to go out there and handle the Broncos. That's what I'm expecting anyway....

. . . With far less talent on the Buccaneer roster (especially at the skilled positions).

Just have to say....13 penalties. And I won't go into the turnovers.

On the bright side, they did block a FG a few plays after turning it over. Kept them in the game up to that point being down only 10 (if I recall correctly)

Fuck Lincoln Riley !! He just had a loss against a 20 point Big12 underdog. I wouldn't even consider him. He's just the latest over-hyped college coach.

Remember a couple years ago all NFL fans heard was the New England slogan, "Just do your job - And do it well." ?

What we saw yesterday from the Patriots was that very same mantra executed on virtually every single play. Attention to detail and everyone just doing their job - well.

Until Jimmy Haslam (John Dorsey) finds a guy who can instill that mentality into every single player, we will continue to wallow in mediocrity.

Mike Evans in on pace for 87 receptions, 1,513 yards, and 14 TDs... and he's not even their leading receiver.

Evans and Godwin? idk about that....Plus they have one of the most talented TE's in the league. They don't use him for some reason, but they have him available.

We haven't had a smart physical disciplined team since they fired Mangini . Most of your good coaches the players dont like them . Tough love is the formula .

I caught heat for it and dont care . I loved Mangini the HC not Mangini the GM .

The inmates are running the Nut house now . No discipline and the dumbest Muthers at times with all these stupid mongoloid penalties . That falls on Fat Freddy .

So, if Evans and Godwin are better than Beckham and Landry (I don't believe they are), and Barber is better than Chubb (I don't believe that either), then that means that Winston is better than Mayfield.
