What kind of message would it send to the rest of the team when you bench your by far most productive offensive player who has model behavior on and off the field. If Pat Mannelly isn't sure if Mitch can play QB in the NFL either he hasn't watched a game in the last 2 years or he's the dumbest analyst currently in media by a wide margin. Everyone already knows the change needs to come in the offseason. Benching A-Rob won't change that fact.
He did say it and I do support it. No, it’s not realistic and Nagy won’t abandon the locker room like that and lose everybody. That being said, I’m perfectly fine with it and understand the rationale behind it. We literally have 2 threads shitting on Mitch for his shortcomings from the saints game, true and apparent as they are. The reality is Mitch isn’t going anywhere. Trade deadline is this week, and I doubt Pace spends more draft capital on an available guy like dalton. So how do you fix and make the most out of him? We’ve already said on this thread—rework the run game. That won’t happen mid season. Change scheme? Also won’t happen. Nagy relinquish calling plays? Also probably isn’t happening. So what do you do? We all agree the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. So If you’re a defense playing against the bears, like the chargers this weekend—you stack the line and double AR15, then when the bears get stymied again due to the lack of run game and quarterback who can’t grasp anything beyond the 1st read. Benching AR forces Mitch to play QB as opposed to looking for him on a quick curl 25 times a half. Because that’s definitely working.
Right. Because if ARob was on the sidelines, Mitch would hit wide open receivers better, too. This idea needs to be put to bed immediately. I’ll just leave it that.
Yeah but in terms of playcalling and knowing what Mitch does or does not bring to the table. I was very vocal then about how I thought they were holding him back with the 1970s style playcalling and formations but maybe they realized his limitations all along.
Benching AR to prove a point that's insanity !!!!!!! He's on my fantasy team lol . Mannellys out of his mind with that statement .
Understanding the rationale behind it is one thing, but getting behind it is quite another, So basically you're attempting to fix one problem and possibly creating 52 others. Sarcasm noted Bear-man, but more to your point, he would likely just find another target to lock on to. Hold on a minute not so fast in dismissing that idea entirely when is it I play you next? Nagy would never do something like that it goes against everything he preaches with his team concept. It also goes against everything I've learned on here from you guys when it comes to tanking games and what that does to the locker room. When you leave your best player when healthy on the sideline you are basically doing just that. It will be interesting as Mitch will probably start this game, but I would like to think if he shits the bed in the first half and he isn't pulled, I'm thinking this team philosophy with continue to erode rather quickly, and Nagy better be mindfull of that.
I am sure within a week of practice Nagy and his team of offensive gurus can implement a couple of more traditional running concepts. He can at the very least attack the edges more. Mitch can’t get any worse at throwing from shotgun. What can it hurt to try some more from under center? Just look at his comments this week on the running game. He is feeling the pressure. GTFOH with the benching A Rob. Not gonna happen nor should it. If Mitch can’t start spreading the ball around like he did at times last season you roll with Daniel and start over this offseason. Could you imagine the backlash from a move like that. Nagy would ruin his career. Forget about the Bears, nobody would even consider him for an OC gig. Ever. I get the concept but it’s just a joke. Not to be taken seriously. Let’s face it. Barring a Cousins like bounce back we are looking at a reboot at the QB position.
This is why I'm now convinced we need to start Chase the rest of the year. Chase makes this simple play and nobody gives it a thought.
(From what I remember from the article) What If? The rumors I heard were true about a trade for Nick Foles when it would cost the Bears a 2nd or 3rd round pick and assume that contract of 88 million, and understand he won't be back until probably week 11 which would leave 7 games and 3 games under whomever. While alright with the cap this season the next would be tough and need about 20 million off the cap next season. So whom would be let go? They suggested Long, Shaheen, Prince and Davis make up the 20 million and aside from Prince, they seem to be expendable. He won't be back until week 11 is that too late to help this team make it to the playoffs? From what I read is running their scout team at this point. He is familar with this offense as you well know. The question remains is there anyone else out there right now that can really help the Bears this season or would you rather wait and not hitch this particular window that we have to Foles? You guys are lightyears ahead of me with your thoughts. I have mixed feelings about it, but I do know how fast these windows close, and the fact that is has been there and done that before holds a lot of merit. Overall given the Bears innate inability to find a QB makes it seem like a no brainer.
Although i agree with you I would like to add that the absence of Akiem Hicks is a contributing factor.
Bilal Nichols has been and/or playing injured all season as well. But fuck Floyd. Never liked the pick.
Something else for Nagy to realize/consider is that because Mitch can’t see past his first read, design plays for him to look at only one or two options, then leave him an escape to run. Think about how many times last year Mitch extended drives with his legs. There were a lot. And that’s because he would look to his first read, it wasn’t open, so he’d run. Oftentimes for a first down. Is that an effective way to play quarterback all the time? No. Did it work better than spazzing out trying to get past the second read and getting sacked while running backwards? Yes. Nagy needs to have more of these types of plays worked into the offense to take advantage of Mitch’s running abilities and to get him more confidence and into the flow of the game. Anytime the blood is pumping and the chains are moving, confidence increases and the defense stays off the field. Forget Mitch’s progression as a QB, because it just isn’t there. Move the fuckin ball, and one of the best ways to do that is with his legs.
Is it just me but he tends to be more accurate when he rolls out of the pocket and displays better mechanics when throwing the ball when doing so.
Here's another trade I heard rumored the Bears acquiring Mariota in the last of his contract for a late-round pick, and not saddled with a contract if things don't work out. He's never had any real weapons, and their offensive line is probably as brutal as the Bears so it may not be pretty, but that would require Pace to admit a mistake regardless of who he brings in. What are your thoughts?
Tannehill just made the offense look great. Running QBs turn to shit when they are injured and can't run
Not that it matters, but why is 4th round pick Riley Ridley taking up space on the active roster if they have no plans to use him? 0 catches.
