Interesting start out West. One of those fast starters is going to come crashing down to reality... and im thinking Ducks.
Agree Will. Ive been wrong on the Ducks pretty much every year though. I thought they were among the Cup favs going in a few years ago (2014?) and they stunk. John Gibson is criminally underrated. The numbers he’d put up on a strong defensive team would be Vezina worthy year after year. I still don’t buy Anaheim
I think Ken Holland signing Dave Tippett was a stroke of genius at the expense of some luck. He seems (Tippett) to be getting everything and anything from the players on the Oil. I watched the Oil and Wings game last night, some real good and quick skating, hustle and heads up playing by the Oilers. Their puck movement was well executed. They stay healthy and continue to get some goaltending and they might be the 'real deal', but like so many times in the NHL its hard to project from just a weeks worth of action.
I know it was Gibson, and not the Ducks per se, that stole that W from Buffalo. If he falters, so will the team. Binnington proved that a hot goalie can have success on a sustained basis. Still, a team is vulnerable when they're dependent on the very narrow platform of one player. Then again, Gibson is a great player, and we won't be shocked if he carries the team all season long. (And, their backup is Ryan Miller, and he's had some success in the past.)
