I get the Trubisky over Watson debate but what are you basing your “no brainer” no doubt view on? Last season they put up very similar stats during the regular season. Especially when you factor in Watson starting 2 more games. And in the playoffs both lost at home in the wild card round but Trubisky at least gave the team a chance with a go ahead TD drive and potential game winning scoring drive in the 4th quarter. I get the emotional let down after the Thursday night loss. But there is still a lot to play out before the book is written on Trubisky’s career.
Trubisky was also the benefactor of a very good defense and the Texans D was near the bottom. Watson has played in 4 fewer games over the first two seasons than Mitch and has a better winning percentage and has complied more yardage and in spite of that, it's the eye test. It doesn't matter what kind of hokey pokey shit the offense does prior to the snap his eyes far too often telegraph where he is going. Can that be corrected? Sure, but far too often when the QB is not confident in protection he will fall back on it like a crutch. I have a short leash when it comes to QB's now, but I will say it's a lot longer than the one the Cardinals had on Josh Rosen. So Yeah I'll take Watson 10 out of 10 times and I could give a fuck about these perceived ceilings anymore they mean little. White, Shaheen and Mitch had glorious ceilings and White and Shaheen can't seem to even get up off the floor.
Great post dline. I remember that and yes, aggie played a role in me coming round to Watson also, cos if there was one concern i had about him prior it was some of the INT's. Wish aggie would get his lazy ass back here. He brought a lot to the board. Totally fair point. About the only major piece on that D that doesn't have Pace's finger prints is Fuller, everyone else is part of what he built. I don't doubt for a second that Fangio had a major influence on this also, but just as he gets ripped for the mistakes Pace deserves credit for the D. Cos that unit is elite. But in a way it only adds to the frustration, because we've been here before and seen great D's get wasted. And it was right there for him. He had the pick of every QB in the class, just get it right. But to get it right you have to pick smart and there's where a lot of us have the problem. Pace didn't pick smart. And its not just about comparing to other QB's, i didn't like the choice at the time cos i just don't feel you can pick a QB in that spot who's only started 13games. The sample size was never there to be sure enough.
Jon Gruden. That trade single handedly swung last years results. In all seriousness I give Pace credit for the D, but a player like Mack elevates a lot. And credit to Pace for taking advantage.
