I got the joke and it would've made sense to me if they were strangers.

I'm sure if someone said to him,"you'll never take her home," he would probably turn and yawn, yeah like a 1000 times already.

Would be crazy if they were purely platonic friends, thus making the joke particularly applicable. But, let's assume one specific scenario to try to invalidate the joke, because it makes us uncomfortable. That sounds like a better idea...

And if they were really platonic friends I would laugh. I've seen funny things over the years with the leafs, if someone finds this meme funny, laugh.
Ballard wanting to produce pickles under the ice, him wanting the coach to wear a bag on his head, him turning up the heat to sell drinks, that's funny.
Not much into millenial humour eh.

don't i know it. after going 2-0 in cup finals the Flyers are 0-6 since.

Take 32 numbers and put them in a hat, having your number picked randomly is tough.
In the summer Alex Pietrangelo tweeted out a video of his grandmother and him eating from the cup. Pocklington then tweets, "you know gretzky and messier pissed in there when they were drunk back in 1985."

Liked this because it highlighted one real big truth. Truth with a capital T. Namely, that Pocklington may be the biggest prick in the history of the NHL.

he tried to get his Dad's name on the Cup as one of the office workers for the Oilers in the 80's. it worked and his name was on the Cup. then they found out about it and X'd over the name, which is how it looks today. what a dick.

He sold the great one like he was a piece of property.

That is, he sold the Great One after he brazenly stole him from the NHL. Wayne skated for the WHA Indianapolis Racers - not Edmonton when they were in that league. Obviously, Indy was not one of the four teams brought into the league. Players for teams other than Hartford, Quebec, Winnipeg, & Edmonton, went to a dispersal draft for the NHL to pick over like a day-old roasted chicken.

So, why didn't Gretzsky go in that dispersal draft? (In which case he would have become a Colorado Rockie.) It's because Pocklington had signed him to a personal-services contract that the pussy NHL owners honored.

    Big prick.

Yeah, the nhl didn't allow teams to sign players under 20 at the time, Pocklington protected him in the 1979 expansion draft.

Leafs are stacked at goalie prospects with Ian Scott and Jacob Woll, interesting to see where Freddie ends up.
