I feel sorry for his friends and family. Tragic.

I never did like him as a player or person. He was selfish, lazy and disrespectful, something his former teammates have pointed out on numerous occasions over the years. A horrible pick by JA, particularly when RB was not a need and Benson, by JA's own admission, was nothing "special".

Couldn't agree more with any of this.

And then to boot, he comes in and holds out demanding more money than the #2, #3 picks got.

When you look at all the talent we actually needed and passe don in that draft, it makes you see what a fucking moron Angelo turned into after a few successful drafts:

    Rodgers
    Mankins
    Roddy White
    Ware

Just off the top of my head. I n fact, not looking it up, but I think 8 or 9 of the next draft became all-pros or multi-year pro-bowlers.

36 is too young for anyone to go I guess. But ive got to say, it wouldn't surprise me if this came about because Bumson did something stupid. I saw Bumson do a lot of stupid in a very short space of time.

And I know its disrespectful to call Bumson Bumson at this time. I don't mean to cause offense to any Bumson fans out there. Its just of all the nicknames ive used for Bears players over the years, Bumson was one of the most satisfying AND appropriate. Because Bumson was a bum. Truly, Bumson was a bum. I don't expect we'll be talking about Bumson too much anymore, so I feel I aught to take the chance to use Bumson's nickname while I still can. If Bumson's looking down, im sure Bumson won't mind too much about a Bears fan calling Bumson Bumson.

    Anyway, goodbye Bumson.

    RIP

He was on a motorcycle, and both he and the driver of the minivan involved in the collision died.

I don't know the details of the incident, but if he and the driver died, chances are good that it wasn't a careless minivan clipping him from the side/behind/etc. It sounds like a full-on collision. But I don't want to speculate beyond that.

Driving around on a motorcycle is such a phenomenal risk to your life that I don't know how sane human beings do it. It's taking it to another level, being involved in a collision that killed the motorcyclist and the minivan driver...

Benson will be remembered as a college football legend. He never lived up to his Texas HS and college career in the NFL but he left his mark on the game.

I feel for Bensons friends and family. I feel worse for the 27 year old girl he had on the back of his bike. From what has been reported he got nailed by a minivan making a left onto the road he was traveling on. Gotta think speed was a factor. I get guys zooming around on those things. Taking their lives in their hands. Don’t get how you can put another person at that risk. Shitty situation all around.

I just got back from riding with my husband and a friend from north of Toronto all the way down to New Orleans Louisiana and then back up through Tennessee and Penn to home. You're right dline, biking is incredibly dangerous. But I think the level of danger and risk is commensurate with the level of experience, skill and maturity the driver has. The only mishaps that I saw on some very long hours driving at very high speeds on the interstates were between 4-wheelers. People are utterly stupid when they drive (and probably when they're not driving) and distracted driving has a lot to do with it. My husband always leads our rides because he doesn't trust anyone else to remain constantly aware of what's going on around us. In the 2 weeks we were riding I saw 3 fatalities on the road. I know that they were fatalities because the ambulances didn't turn their siren or lights on.
From what I have heard about Benson and his level of maturity I'm not surprised to read about his death from a bike accident. It's sad but since just about anyone can get their M license after the age of 14 it really doesn't surprise me at all,

    Some more details:

The preliminary investigation showed the BMW motorcycle driven by Benson was traveling at a high rate of speed westbound in the left lane of RM 2222, police said. A white, 2014 Dodge van was stopped at the T-intersection of Mount Bonnell Road and RM 2222. After checking for oncoming traffic, the van attempted to turn left onto RM 2222 when it was struck by the motorcycle, according to police.

Look I get that Benson was a shitty Bear. I don’t get how that makes him an inexperienced rider. The details that have emerged are pretty clear. Benson was driving down a road when a mini van made a left hand turn from a side road in front of him. There was no light at the intersection. Benson clearly had the right of way. Just because he might have been speeding doesn’t give the minivan the right to turn in front of him. I am surprised as an experienced rider you would so quickly put the blame on experience. It’s actually been reported that Benson was indeed a very experienced rider. Unfortunately if you ride for long enough almost all riders have a story. Some live to tell it others only have the witnesses to tell it.

The details aren't entirely clear. How fast was Benson riding? Was the road poorly lit? Were his lights on? Why did the minivan driver, after checking for oncoming traffic, attempt to turn? I'm not blaming anyone but seems there's still a lot left about this we don't know.

Rob I didn't say that Benson was an inexperienced rider. I said
Speed is a huge factor in motorcycle fatalities. The details of the accident are not clear yet or have not been released so I am basing my statement on my overall knowledge of bikers who I have met over the years. This whole story is tragic from beginning to end.

I can't answer but 1 of these questions. Unless he was riding a motorcycle manufactured before 1973, his headlight was on. Beginning in 1973: FMVSS requires every motorcycle manufactured or sold in the U.S. that, when the ignition key is in the "on" postion, the headlight must be on.

That's definitely near the bottom of my list on ways I'd like to go out.

Probably a few spots above bleeding to death from having my penis chopped off.

I can remember when I was tripping on acid in high school one day and we were amusing ourselves throwing lit matches into a safety gas can some guy left in the parking lot. A guy I was crushing on picked it up and told me to throw another match in, which I did, then he set the can down on the ground and walked away. We were pretty stupid and didn't know anything about gas vapours or fumes or whatever. I watched the gas melt the skin of my hand back to my wrist and my fingernails all turn black and start coming off. You definitely do NOT want to die from burning.

Man that is nasty. No one should go out like that.

You're never gonna die from that. The wound would be too small

Tim any chance you could bring back that drum playing smilie we used to have. Always went well with the zinger.

That is an important lesson and I thank you for sharing. Acid really is friggin crazy.

Your wife never complains about the size.

Unless you’re not married. In which case it’s your mom or sister.
