Howard traded to Eagles

With some more time to digest, I find myself with more questions and a couple speculations. Some of y'all have touched on these, others off the top of my head.

Why the Eagles? The obvious: Doug Pederson's and Nagy's offense stem from.....Andy Reid. Same scheme, obviously with them adding their own plans. So if the bears couldn't 'fit' him in the scheme, how does Pederson? Teams will stack the box because he's too inconsistent catching out of the backfield.

    I dont know

A--if this was the best offer the bears were going to get,

B--The whole "scheme fit" argument I just referenced/many believe is a hoax and purely fan driven, and Pederson believes he knows a way to use him Nagy couldn't figure out,

C--Who is Jordan Howard taking carries away from here that's so urgent to deal him NOW of all times? Not at draft time? Not in camp when someone's RB inevitably gets injured? Mike Davis? Love him as a depth signing, concerned as hell he's the answer to my question above.

D--Bears have minimal draft capital this year, but more in 2020, including the 2 2nds and multiple later picks. Ryan Pace is aggressive, and gets what he wants. Is there somebody he has to have?

E--If he meant so little that you settled for the conditional 6th, why not play him and get comp pick potential (depending on who they signed)?

I've otherwise accepted while this sucks and is has potential to be a "highway robbery" deal, and overall just sucks. I'd have kept Howard for the year, even if this would have been his last.

It doesn't make sense to me either it's not like they got a whole lot out of Weasel. Howard is a proven commodity. I hope Howard tears it up this year only to show how negligent this staff is in determining talent, and fuck that visor wearing cocksucking so called coach of the year. Fuck you Nagy!
Hahahaha I'm drunk, and thank you patg.

Wow. Waaaaaaaaaay too much conjecture over a running back that averaged 3.7 YPC last year.

I said it in game threads I’m sure, but this is not a loss. I wanted him gone.

I’ve never seen a 235 pound running back go down so easily. He can’t catch a pass, he doesn’t have breakaway speed.. what are we holding onto?

News flash - they were going to CUT him anyway. And there is a 6th round running back with the same skill set they could get for next to nothing.

Jordan Howard? We’re losing sleep over this fucking guy? I put him around Raymont Harris in the all time Bears running backs list

    No loss.

I'm not losing sleep over it but I don't understand trading him and getting zero compensation this season.

This is what bugs me, and I think Ev/BWW said it too, last year right after the pro bowl year was the time to do it, if you figured he didn't fit. We'd all have been pissed then too, but after a wasted year of his potential we get almost nothing. I'm not 100% but I don't think Philly's offensive style is going to suit him either, so it's a real shame. But on the list of Pace fuckups, it's near the bottom IMO. The giraffe is maybe the worst, unless I've blocked some out.

I personally like how he always kept his legs moving, but there's no doubt he wasn't effective under Nagy. But man, Mizzel was worse and we have not yet upgraded from that not so good production.

This is why I should read both pages before replying. This is what I reference in my other post, I don't think Philly's offense suits him. I get it's his market value, but I'm a bit surprised an executive in the league didn't see him as a fit in their scheme.

Your point D is the most interesting, and maybe explains why Pace went with 2020, does he see that draft as particularly stacked? You follow that stuff more Pat, is 2020 going to be an overall better projected year than 2019?

Maybe if you want offense. 2019 is considered an excellent defensive draft, so you sure won't improve there. As boring as it sounds, it was probably the best offer they could get. The argument of waiting for preseason when another team loses an RB to injury is interesting. I definitely don't believe his value is any higher 'during' the draft. It's during the draft when every GM is fascinated with the potential of all the cheap rookies they could simply draft. Easy to be excited picturing the ceiling of some rookie athletes. Many will never reach that ceiling, but you don't draft them unless you believe there's a chance.

I think Howard does fit Philly's scheme a little better. Both coaches might be from the Reid coaching tree, but Pederson sticks more to the traditional power run game. Nagy has taken a little more of the movement and creativity aspect of the west coast scheme. He wants pure athletes everywhere. And that's where perhaps Howard doesn't quite fit the bill. I'd say I'm surprised they didn't get more. BUT...just ask Giants fans or Steelers fans how they feel about the haul they got for OBJ and Antonio Brown respectively. Hard to find anyone pleased in those camps. And to piggyback on BWW's point, 3.7 per carry...not exactly screaming hand us a 2nd rounder.

LAOJoe and RTTRUTH's 10th Annual Collaborative Mock Draft would love to have a knowledgeable Bears fan making GM decisions for their favorite team.
Participation is actually quite easy. It begins Tuesday April 9th.

Any of you interested in participating? They are a ton of fun for anyone who follows the draft.

You guys doing this again eh RT. The most impressive comp on this site by far, crazy how far you guys take this with all the picks/trades etc. Hope it went well.

Can't believe no one here stuck their hand up for this. Weak as F.

I'd do it but I would totally mess it up. I don't follow enough college football or do any kind of research on prospects.

Pat is probably the most qualified here to do it...not sure he has the time.

Yeah. Think its a bit of a problem for a lot of us. Shame tho, its a hell of a comp those guys run and youre pm box is blowing up with trade offers. I successfully called Javon Wims in it last year, no one else though.

I just wouldn't have the time. The dedication these guys have been putting in is well beyond what I've got. Cheers to all that did it, and here's to hoping the Bears' GM wasn't too bored by starting his draft in the 3rd...

You'd would be surprised, as I was. The most represented fanbases on this site tended to be the hardest ones to fill (CHI, PIT, BAL).

In the end I'm representing the Bears. Something of an interesting exercise, considering the lack of picks. Here's how it's shaping up:

    3(23) Jalen Jelks / Edge / Oregon
    5(6) Trayveon Williams / RB / Texas A&M
5(24) Jimmy Moreland / CB / James Madison
    6(16) Matt Gay / PK / Utah
    7(7)
    7(8)

At 4.24 there was no one I was enamored with. So when I got the chance to add a 6th and improve my place in the 7th round from 24 to 7 I took it. Always planned to grab the new kicker in the 6th. Seemed not too early to pick my favorite, but early enough that I didn't have to panic he might get snagged by others first.
I have two 7th rounders left, and I'm open to suggestion on where I could look. Was planning on going BPA between DL, blocking TE, and OL. But if you think I'm overlooking a position, let me know.

Eh....most of the fans here are probably gonna call for you to be fired.

I think the realistic chances the Bears look to draft a TE are probably high. But I see Pace taking a flyer late on another project TE with athleticism rather than a blocking guy.

Haha. Fair enough. Of course it's kind of like the old saying "if you don't vote, don't complain". Any one of them could have made the decisions themselves (taken my offer to participate), leaving my lack of expertise on the Bears in particular as a moot point.

It's hard to look at a haul starting in the back of the 3rd round and be excited when you've been hearing the names and athletic exploits of many exciting players for months, most of whom are already off the board when the middle of the 3rd round creeps up. These exercises are eye-opening. And even among the bunch of us participating, we've already had a few interesting (and occasionally heated) discussions about certain players 4 of us love, and 2-3 of us hate. So even within a particular position group, each person has their favourites (targets) and guys they're more comfortable letting go to their competition. I love doing these things. Can't believe anyone ever turns down these invites. But having my own child for the first time while trying to prep for this draft, I can understand not having the time, to research the players at least. Participating is easy. You could simply leave a top 8 players list with the moderators once per day. But that won't teach you everything you want to know about roughly 150-300 different prospects. That takes at the very least a lot of reading. I prefer to try and watch "tape" of every player, if I can. But there's the truly time consuming part.

I have the time....I just don't have the motivation. And I might miss a round of golf.

I was kidding about the firing....we have a feisty bunch here. I think the draft you guys do is awesome and all of you guys put in the work. It's impressive.

Maybe I'll avoid it then. It's funny you say that. I looked at their roster and didn't really think it was a big need. But I looked somewhere else and they did a write-up that had me believe it's a spot the team wants filled (blocking I mean).

Good news is, currently still available TE Drew Sample is a bit of both. Has some ability as a receiver, and has plenty of practice run blocking. I've seen at least one anonymous quote from some league exec/scout or whatever that said he's probably a few teams mid-late round target because he might be better than 4-5 TE's drafted earlier and he does a bit of everything. However I'm still about 20-25 picks away. So we'll call him a tentative target.

For years, we had the constant churn and underachievement at Safety. But after the last several years, and the current TE roster... that position may deserve the moniker, now. Pace's second round pick still has a chance to prove us wrong.
