This move sort of surprises me. I know they were shopping Fells, but didn't think they'd cut him. Especially after Dorsey called out Njoku last week on his sub-par run blocking....I'd agree we are in the TE market.

He's a little long in the tooth, but coming off his best career year. This would be an upgrade to Fells:

Honestly TD, there are a lot of guys in this draft that I like and believe they would help this team...

    In this order:

Quinnen Williams (most likely gone in the top 10)
    Ed Oliver
    Christian Wilkins
    Dre-Mont Jones
    Rashan Gary

I would take any of those 5 at #17, which means 12 other players need to be taken in order to get one. I do believe Jones will easily be available, I'm not so sure about the other 4.

If they end up taking another player at #17, I would still like Jerry Tillery at #49... again, not sure he makes it to #49, but it should be around the area that he goes.

I would still like to get someone in camp from the free agency wire, maybe someone like Malik Jackson or Henry Anderson. Sign them to short prove it deals, then still have options in the draft if one falls to us at #17.

I can't say with fervor that there won't be other players at #17 that I like better than Jones and/or Gary though. We won't know that until the night falls to us.

Check out what Todd Monken did in Tampa with Brate and Howard. Brate gave them 660 yards and 8 touchdowns and they still went out and drafted O.J. Howard in the first round. Since then, they've combined for 213 targets, 138 receptions, 1,877 yards, and 23 touchdowns. Those numbers are split very close to 50/50 between the two.

Combined, the Browns tight ends last season added: 112 targets, 75 receptions, 853 yards, and 8 touchdowns - roughly 75 percent of this production coming from Njoku. They simply don't have (or don't believe) in the other guys to be an equal counterpoint to Njoku.

This guy has a hot name but still isn't looked at as a first round guy. Khalen Saunders Draft Profile

He's viewed more as a nose tackle, but so was Larry Ogunjobi when he was drafted.

Should we start considering TE as an expected draft option?

I would, although probably in the later rounds.

Reports are he wants to go back to Philly.

Scratch Malik Jackson off my list...it was just announced he is signing a 3 year deal worth $30M with the Eagles.

Fells was an avg at best blocker. You would think with his size he would perform better, but it left a lot to be desired. Devalve has had some heath issues but it still kind of has me scratching my head seeing all these football sites say that the Browns need "an athletic TE2". They have that already in place, he just needs to stay healthy.

A thought occured to me that I thought was funny . . .

What if . . . the Raiders turned around and traded Antonio Brown to the Browns for pick #17? The Steelers said they would never trade AB within the AFCN but, Mayock and Gruden never did. They would end up, in essence, trading two mid round picks for yet another 1st round pick and Antonio would get to stick it to his old team twice a year.

It will never happen but I thought it was funny.

If reports are correct, the Raiders are cash strapped. Not sure if it is unprecedented or not with a player of his "caliber", but players have been traded or at least attempted to be traded in the past.

That said, it's a hard pass for me. I want my first round draft picks to be able to contribute 5 years down the road..AB is 31 and crazy.

It would be a hard pass from me, as well. Just thought it would be funny.

Not too mention way over priced.

Though I agree it would be humorous... Hypothetically speaking

AB is 31,but for some reason, with him I feel he's got another solid three years left. I don't usually feel that way about non-QB skill players over age 30, but that dude is weird. Plus he carries a huge chip on his shoulder. This might actually work for Oakland. Lord knows, Carr needs WR's...

Still some good LB out there.

Who wouldn't want to play behind Vernon, Ogunjobi, Richardson, Garrett?

We still have a long way to go, but Richardson and Vernon are a good start.

I don't think either signing precludes adding a high draft pick at either position. We need depth regardless, but it does make the team stronger, which is the point of free agency and the draft.

I'm getting excited to see what else can be done.
