For one, I’ve stated in way more than 4 paragraphs already my opinion. So there’s that. And I’ve definitelt said a ton.

My argument is simple...which should be easy for you but as usual you make simple hard.

Outside of a career year stat wise...Namath was never among the elite QBs of his time. Now how many can be elite at a certain position is an extremely debatable subject. Me personally...I’d give the opinion that at the time Namath played the elite QBs in each season were probably 3 guys in most seasons. Namath outside of maybe one year was never in that elite. He was always surrounded by guys that he was either on par with or inferior to. That’s my opinion. And therefore...he wasn’t elite.

I loved watching him play. He was fun...he was entertaining. I could never root for the Jets but as a player and person I enjoyed watching Namath play. When the Jets were on TV...I typically watched.

But Namath’s actual on field performance wasn’t elite. He wasn’t elite as compared to his peers because he had quite a few peers that were simply better than him.

I’m totally fine with him being in the HOF. If I had a vote...I wouldn’t have voted for him though.

He had balls, he had moxy. He had an attitude and cockiness. But he turned the ball over too much. He threw the ball too much. He threw into double coverage....he threw when his receivers weren’t even looking for the ball. Namath was the guy that would try and throw the call through the eye of a needle and it would get picked off three times....but he’d do it again the fourth time just to prove he could do it. Personally....I fucking loved that. Because had I had the talent to be a QB...that’s probably how I’d play. But...he wasn’t elite because other guys were smarter and better.

And yes his media popularity certainly played some sort of a role. His national exposure, something a lot of other QBs at the time weren’t getting, certainly played a role. It was a different time. It’s not the main reason he made the Hall....but it factors in.

For me the bottom line is comparing Namath to the other QBs of the time and he isn’t elite compared to his peers.

But it beats being a sad, pathetic stalker...am I right?

The main reason all of this is an argument is one person says Hall of Fame membership equals that player being elite.

I completely disagree with that. I think there are multiple players in the Hall of Fame...and I’ve named names....that weren’t elite as compared to their peers.

Joe Namath is just one of them. Bob Hayes is another. As much as I loved him I put Dan Hampton in there. And there are others.

I can make an argument for any of them. It doesn’t mean I’m right. But what it attempts to illustrate is that HOF doesn’t automatically equal being elite.

That’s the point being made here.

Sometimes I feel like the chain smoking kicker in the movie "The Replacements". The guy that starts a brawl and then crawls over behind the jukebox.

This whole Namath thing started with a conversation about players being "elite" and then devolved into a pissing contest about whether Joe Namath was an elite player (when compared to his peers) or is he elite because he's in the HoF.

I wasn't using my opinion of why he should have won ROY in another argument. I was arguing directly about that one award. What does that have to do with anything we are discussing?

A direct argument was made that HOF status meant elite, your argument was that YOU DIDN'T NECESSARILY BELIEVE he even deserved to be in the HOF, nor does HOF mean you are elite.

It was a direct rebuttal of that viewpoint.

    Quit being a fuckin baby...

We argued all day over a vague word. lol!..I admit, we were celebrating on Saturday, and I was drinking beers and having fun...

I actually had a pretty well written, somewhat long, post yesterday where I detailed where we differ in our interpretation. Just before I was about to post it, the high winds knocked my internet out. lol! There's no winners or losers. I was messin with ya...Believe it or not, I even mentioned how I'd love to hear your thoughts on the 60"s NFL QB's...But I am done with this argument. FWIW, It was over for me on post #70...The ONLY reason I jumped back into this nonsense on the very next post is because I love talking football..

I draw the line at HoF, and you don't agree.....Who cares? We've both made our points and aren't budging. Let it go....

    I said Namath wasn’t elite.

The rebuttal was he must be because he’s in the Hall.

I said one....that isn’t true. HOF doesn’t automatically equal being elite. I also said I thought his HOF election was questionable.

So....what’s the problem? Please explain why I can’t have that opinion and also why I couldn’t have brought it up in this debate?

    And don’t be a twat and I won’t call you a twat...fair?

If you want to stop talking about it by all means stop talking about it.

I still have more to say so I’m gonna say it.

You are the only one to declare yourself a winner. I don’t take any of this seriously....I’m not Irish.

AGAIN, I am starting to think you are also going senile, at what point did I say you couldn't bring it up in the debate? Once you brought it up though, it is open for rebuttal also. My question is, why are others opinions open to rebuttal, but as soon as someone rebuffs one of yours, your depends need changed because you can't hold your water?

When you start acting your age, we will start having fair conversations, until then I have my doubts.

Okay...so you agree I can bring it up in debate. So....again I ask....what’s the problem?

Are you just typing for fun of typing now or do you have a point? Because now each time I question you your response is to say you didn’t say that.

Anything I type is naturally open for rebutall. Rebut everything I type...please. Question it. Mock it. Correct it. Disagree or agree with it. That’s what we are here for.

I ask for only two things...

Don’t change my words. I’m a very literal person. I always say what I mean. There’s no reason to every try to interpret what I type because there’s never a hidden meaning.

And don’t make up stuff I didn’t say. Like it or not....agree with it or not...you are guilty of doing that Irish. Be pissed about it and pretend you don’t but you’ve done it to me multiple times.

I can stand up in any argument and hold my own so your depends argument is crap. You’re the sensitive one. “I’m in no mood for this”. Your words. “I’m not responding to you anymore”. Your words. How’d that work out by the way....lasted like 10 seconds. You throw more temper tantrums than anyone here when someone disagrees with you. So don’t try to play the I know you are but what I am game because your own words screw your over.

Yes I’m old. If that’s the best either of you guys got....it’s time to look for new ammunition or a new enemy.

If that’s what you’re waiting for Irish...I hope you aren’t holding your breath.

What’s a fair conversation to you? One where I ignore your emo moodiness, don’t call you on your BS, and ignore when you change my argument for me? Would that be fair in your book?

    Not happening kiddo.

I never take you seriously TD. That’s not something you ever need to worry about. I’d have to respect you first and that’s not bound to happen anytime soon.

    Not until I’m done breathing.

Apparently the only problem is that someone else also has an opinion...if it agrees with yours, there isn't a problem...when it does, they are just whiny little twats...which argues against who the twat really is.

Therein lies the issue...what you think is literal in many cases has little meaning. Thus, we must make a conclusion based on your thought process rather than an actual statement.

You may think you are being literal, even when you aren't.

I've never made stuff up...I always quote what I am agreeing/disagreeing with, then give my statement...it's only when someone disagrees that you start attempting to degrade them with overtures and then saying that I/we are changing the meaning of your words...If they were literal, there would be no room for interpretation.

I know you can't stand up in any argument, some you can, don't cut yourself down that much.

It's not a made up issue, like say, being a twat...it's a fact you're old and maybe some of your sensitivity is based on that. I really don't know, you might have been an overly sensitive prick in your 20's...this is all I have to go on at the moment though. The fact someone disagrees with you isn't an attack on your character, maybe start there with your therapy.

A fair conversation/debate is between two adults that can carry on without insults to begin with. It took you pulling out those insults, that make no sense, to stoop down to your level. What you call emo moodiness is actually someone disagreeing with you, that's all, it ends there...so the moodiness is actually emanating from you. Ironic, isn't it?

Saying someone "changed your argument" doesn't make it factual either. Either learn to articulate yourself better, or there will be bouts with confusion in what you are trying to get across.

The insults are where the conversations lose all credibility...those always are initiated by you..

I’ve stated several times on this thread and the other thread where we were talking about players being elite....this isn’t a cut and dry argument. Everyone has a different opinion of what elite is. And how many players can be elite at a certain position and so on. I don’t expect everyone to agree with my version of what elite is. And that’s perfectly okay. I think it’s a great conversation.

But when people twist my words...I will correct them.

And when your only argument is someone is elite because they are in the HOF....I will challenge that.

It doesn’t make me right because it’s only an opinion. That I’m sharing on a sports message board.

And not everyone is a whiny little twat. But you are. And you’re proving it yet again.

LOL, and THIS is why you are an angry old man... the post leading up to this sentence was thoughtful and I agree with 100%.. This wasn't needed to get your point across. I am not even whining, I am trying to let you know why posters butt heads with you. OK..enough, we aren't going to get ANYWHERE with our conversations..it's actually pretty sad.

I’m not convinced you’re a adult. You cry far too much for my liking and it makes me question your maturity.

And adults can and do use insults. I’m sorry that offends you...I’m sorry being called a twat distracts you from the conversation at hand. As said previously....stop being a twat and I’ll stop calling you a twat.

Plenty of people disagree with me. The list goes on forever. Not all of them are so over the top with the I’m not in the mood for this, no one loves me, oh my god I’m gonna stop talking to you moodiness like you are. And don’t blame me for your PMS. I didn’t cause it. And if you think I did then I have far too much control over your mind and you need to close your browser now.

Saying someone changed my argument indeed doesn’t make it factual. But....fact...you’ve done that multiple times. And I’ve pointed it out multiple times. So while saying it doesn’t make it a fact....you doing it makes me saying you do it a factual statement.

My arguments stand alone despite the insults. You choose to focus on the insults because you can’t truly refute the argument.

    And also....you’re a twat.

Yet here you guys are....saying stuff to me.

    I’m old...I’m senile...I have no sense of humor...I’m
not very smart...You guys clearly know more about football than I do....one of you says he’s never gonna talk to me again....yet...here we are.

This almost seems more entertaining than golfing today. But the sun is shining and it’s almost my tee time.
