SUPER BOWL LIII

The QB is the easiest target to jump on because he's the most visible. If you had to ask me before the game which team would get outcoached, I think anyone would've said rams. I thought Goff should've still been good for a couple of Tds, but not confident on the win.

Heard Flores is taking Chad O’shea with him to Miami. Bills kids will be calling plays before you know it

That first one was 100% on Goff, Patriots blew the coverage and he was WIDE open, standing in the EZ waiting for the ball. Maybe he should have come back a little, but Goff made him wait. The second one was a borderline penalty, don't think Cooks could get his second hand to the ball quick enough. Good defense IMO, and believe me I hate to give the Pats credit for anything.

As for the Super Bowl itself, I don't get the boring comments. I thought it was a good game, with a lot of good defense. A chess match throughout and the Patriots adjusted and adapted better and wore down the Rams front 7.

I agree with Jean, to me this wasn't a great defensive game at all, it was more a game of two completely inept offenses. I said something similar to my fiance who is not really a sports fan but said the game was incredibly boring. I mentioned that if the game was 3-0 but we were seeing huge defensive plays like ints or fumbles instead of the constant string of punts, then things would be different because you'd be on the edge of your seat not knowing what would come next.

There were too many bad decisions, horrible throws, and dropped passes for me to not think the game was about inept QBs and offenses compared to dominating defenses.

The "great defense" thing makes me think about this season and how midway (post Tennessee game) everyone kept talking about how the Ravens were the the best defense. Meanwhile they didn't force a turnover in a month and in all critical situations, they would fold like a lawn chair. Compare that to how they came alive during the Lamar Jackson stretch and it was night and day.

If you want to walk away from the SB thinking you witnessed a defense dominate, you're not watching this game. Watch the 2000 Ravens or heck even the Bucs when they schooled their competition with defense.

I haven’t seen a SB like last night since the 70’s

The result of this Super Bowl should have been predictable. The Rams were the beneficiary of probably the easiest regular season schedule (from an opponent's W/L record) that I can recall. Their defense was legit - not as legit as perhaps the '85 Bears or '00 Ravens - but legit just the same. Add in the fortuitous double doink by the Bears and the infamous no-call against the Saints and it's not out of the question that either the Bears or the Saints would have made for a better game.

That's not to take anything away from the Patriots. They played the team that the playoff system pitted them against. And the Rams DID limit them to a total of 13 points. But, the Rams offensive showing was offensive.

I agree with that, but I think that ties in with my opinion. He needed to be ready for that outside of practice.

Gotta go with steelerskings on this, that one at the back of the EZ is all on Goff to me, i don't hold Cooks accountable at all.

He breaks thru the zone at about the 10yard line and coasts right to the back of the EZ and then has to elevate from a flat footed base. Goff was so late on that throw, it should've gone out much earlier. And tbh i think he could've driven that ball a little more too. It hardly zipped thru the air, it looked a little like a slightly safe throw from an unconfident QB to me.

Im really not gonna pick on Cooks at all tbh. He went 8 for 120 which is a good game in of itself, should've been about 9-150-1 which is suddenly a big game. And he was up against Gilmore who is a good player who played well. I think the Pats secondary in general played well and Rams WR's in turn played well to get open as much as they did against a good, well gameplanned secondary.

What i would be critical of, which speaks to your point about coaching, was i felt McVey didn't try to max out Chung not being there. Looked like the middle of the field became more vulnerable after that but McVey didn't seem to actively target it from what i could see.

Probably but I wasn't talking about any deep shots. A couple plays come to mind right away. I'll post them up later if I can find them.

Ya I don't think anyone could make that claim last year. lol.

I didn't specify deep shots, there were some intermediate throws he could've let go too but didn't. He seemed very careful always not to kill his team, which is fair enough, but sometimes you have to go win a game. Its a fine line.

Anyway i'll wait and see which plays you have to offer, may be we're thinking of some of the same ones.

    Lowest ratings in 10 years.
    3 factors
    1. Pats fatigue
    2. Adding to that many people that didn't think the Rams deserved to be there weren't invested in it (or in cheering against the Pats for them)
    3. How many people changed the channel thanks to that game or that halftime show and didn't bother to go back?

Well damn, a second dynasty has been born. Guess that settles it, with six Vince Lombadi trophies the New England Patriots are the greatest franchise in the Super Bowl era and are on the stairway to seven.

The Steelers are knock, knock, knocking on sevens door.

The craziest thing about the NFL right now, might just be that the most lethal QB/WR combo, involves a former 6th rounder hooking up with a former 7th....

Not only that, based on the old stereotypes of jewish people being accountants and lawyers, one of the best wide receivers in the league.
